Mike was asleep, or at least he was a few minutes ago when she got up. She went into the other room an idea forming and went to the companel. “Yes this is Revna McKenzie…Yes that Revna McKenzie…thank you…yes…that is so sweet, thank you…” and the sound of soft laughter as she listened. “Well…ye…okay this is what I want......”

She slipped back through the room to bathroom and then with a smile at a sleeping Mike, back to the other room. Brush in hand she sat down undoing the braids and beads, a michevious grin on her face. “Computer, play…Revna list 3.” The music started softly, at first it was just her foot tapping as she concentrated on what she was doing. The music varied mostly from traditional Norweigin pieces to Celtic, with one or two random pieces. It wasn’t long until she was actually singing, switching the music from lyrics to just the instruments, her voice taking the place of the singers.

The song was totally out of season but she loved the tempo and rhythm. Swaying across the room to check the comm panel as it beeped…

On every winter’s evening
He’s playing for the queen and king
When yuletide’s here, the people cheer
Come out and tune up your strings.

1800, private room, transparent floor and windows. Full flight menu, and compliments of the chef....Revna grinned, confirmed the reservation and went back to her singing with a grin on her face.

You hear the joyful bells, they ring
They’re waiting to hear the fiddle sing
Our maestro’s hiding from the stage
He won’t play a single thing
‘Cause one last winter’s evening
His sweetheart left our fiddler lad
His heart froze cold and even now
No one can warm it up.

And now the Christmas time is coming ‘round today
He’s wondering: Why oh why doesn’t it come my way?
Oh where’s my soulmate waiting for my snowy heart?
If so make sure no one can keep us apart

She danced about the room, rummaging around in the crates as she sang…

Now all you people, hush and listen
We’re gonna find the one that’s missin’
Our fiddler boy he’s oh so blue
It hurts to see him low
Come everyone and saddle your horse
We’ll look for Eilidh Goldenrose
The miller took her as his wife
She was not to refuse

And now the Christmas time is coming ‘round today
He’s wondering: Why oh why doesn’t it come my way?
Oh where’s my soulmate waiting for my snowy heart?
If so make sure no one can keep us apart

They found poor Eilidh hiding
‘Cause she ran away from the miller
Now the fiddler and his Goldenrose
Are finally together
And now at last he starts to bow
All come to hear the fiddler’s sound
And every lad he grabs a gal
And spins her round and round

Totally oblivious to the rest of the room, Revna spun in place dancing as she sang.

And now the Christmas time is coming ‘round today
He’s finally coming out so we can hear him play
He has his soulmate and he has a warmed up heart
Now let’s make sure no one can keep them apart
And now the christmas time is coming ‘round today
He’s finally coming out so we can hear him play
He has his soulmate and he has a warmed up heart
Now let’s make sure no one can keep them apart

Now there’s so much in his heart
That a true artist will show
And still when the party’s over
His soul is chanting on

Revna (with thanks to Patty Gurdy and Fiddler’s Green)

Mike leaned against the door and watched his wife dance and twirl and sing. She really did have a great voice, and it him no amount of joy to see her moving without struggling to breathe. As her song came to a close, he said “You know… why don’t I do the diplomat stuff and you be the singer? I think you’d do better.” and he smiled and winked at her.

Revna let out a small sound somewhere between a gasp a squeak and a soft yelp as she spun around. She grinned, blushing bright red at being caught. Butterflies took off in her stomach as he winked at her. She shook her head, “No, I can sing well enough, but I can’t create.” She walked into his arms and reached up joining her hands behind his neck. “Besides your voice moves worlds, Mike.” Though singing with him at the piano was already one of her most favorite moments of her life. They would have to do that again, maybe just not in public (though he could probably convince her to do it). She kissed him just long enough…and then pulled back slightly. “I didn’t know you were awake. But now that you are…” She kissed him again before stepping back, “Go get dressed. I’m paying up on date tonight.” She winked at him before turning to pick up the tray she left the beads in. Her hair was different, less than half the beads were in her hair and were woven in a line across her hair, and rather than braided, it was down.

“Oh really? It’s about time. I was startin’ to think you were gonna welch.” and he grinned and leaned in for a kiss… and then playfully smacked her rear and said “I need to get my clothes in here anyway! I’ll be back in a minute!” and he left the room to go get his things from his room.

thirty minutes later he was back and dropped three bags on the floor. “Sorry, love. Had to stop and get something to wear for tonight.” and walked into the room with a garment bag over one shoulder.

Revna came out from the bedroom already dressed in a wine colored floor length dress. The design made the dress slip on like a long coat. The shoulders extended down to elbow length sleeves that were split from elbow to curve of the shoulder. The dress wrapped and tied around her waist and was satin to her knees then extending to floor in lace, so that when she walked, the dress split to her knee allowing a glimpse of her legs. She was carefully lifting her hair out from the back of the dress when she walked in. She smiled at him. “It’s fine we still have a little time. And honestly I don’t think their giving our table away.” She grinned, being the diplomatic attaché apparently had some perks. Being Mike’s wife had more, and that had nothing to do with his ‘fame.’ She sat down on the couch and grinned at him nodding at the garment bag, “Well go on then, I can’t wait for the show.”

Mike stared and his mouth feel open slightly. At her command, he said “Huh? Uh… oh. Right. Yeah… be right back.” and he walked out of the room, his eyes never leaving her until the door slid closed.

Ten minutes later, Mike came through the door. He was dressed in a fitted three-piece suit. Charcoal gray suit coat and vest with a white, nehru collar shirt with black onyx buttons and cufflinks. He smiled at her and opened one side of the coat. The inside was bright (some would call it ‘brothel’) red with patches from different bands sewn in. He looked at her and said “Well come on, then. Pay up.” and he offered her his arm.
