Mike leaned against the door and watched his wife dance and twirl and sing. She really did have a great voice, and it him no amount of joy to see her moving without struggling to breathe. As her song came to a close, he said “You know… why don’t I do the diplomat stuff and you be the singer? I think you’d do better.” and he smiled and winked at her.

Mike ‘I Knew Her Before She Was Famous’ McKenzie

Revna let out a small sound somewhere between a gasp a squeak and a soft yelp as she spun around. She grinned, blushing bright red at being caught. Butterflies took off in her stomach as he winked at her. She shook her head, “No, I can sing well enough, but I can’t create.” She walked into his arms and reached up joining her hands behind his neck. “Besides your voice moves worlds, Mike.” Though singing with him at the piano was already one of her most favorite moments of her life. They would have to do that again, maybe just not in public (though he could probably convince her to do it). She kissed him just long enough…and then pulled back slightly. “I didn’t know you were awake. But now that you are…” She kissed him again before stepping back, “Go get dressed. I’m paying up on date tonight.” She winked at him before turning to pick up the tray she left the beads in. Her hair was different, less than half the beads were in her hair and were woven in a line across her hair, and rather than braided, it was down.
Revna ‘I’m up to something’ McKenzie

“Oh really? It’s about time. I was startin’ to think you were gonna welch.” and he grinned and leaned in for a kiss… and then playfully smacked her rear and said “I need to get my clothes in here anyway! I’ll be back in a minute!” and he left the room to go get his things from his room.

thirty minutes later he was back and dropped three bags on the floor. “Sorry, love. Had to stop and get something to wear for tonight.” and walked into the room with a garment bag over one shoulder.

Mike ‘I Make This Look Good’ McKenzie

Revna came out from the bedroom already dressed in a wine colored floor length dress. The design made the dress slip on like a long coat. The shoulders extended down to elbow length sleeves that were split from elbow to curve of the shoulder. The dress wrapped and tied around her waist and was satin to her knees then extending to floor in lace, so that when she walked, the dress split to her knee allowing a glimpse of her legs. She was carefully lifting her hair out from the back of the dress when she walked in. She smiled at him. “It’s fine we still have a little time. And honestly I don’t think their giving our table away.” She grinned, being the diplomatic attaché apparently had some perks. Being Mike’s wife had more, and that had nothing to do with his ‘fame.’ She sat down on the couch and grinned at him nodding at the garment bag, “Well go on then, I can’t wait for the show.”
Revna ‘I’m waiting with baited breath’ McKenzie

Mike stared and his mouth feel open slightly. At her command, he said “Huh? Uh… oh. Right. Yeah… be right back.” and he walked out of the room, his eyes never leaving her until the door slid closed.

Ten minutes later, Mike came through the door. He was dressed in a fitted three-piece suit. Charcoal gray suit coat and vest with a white, nehru collar shirt with black onyx buttons and cufflinks. He smiled at her and opened one side of the coat. The inside was bright (some would call it ‘brothel’) red with patches from different bands sewn in. He looked at her and said “Well come on, then. Pay up.” and he offered her his arm.

Mike ‘I Was Stunned But I Recovered’ McKenzie

She grinned wickedly at him as he made his way into bedroom. Once the door closed she got up and got a very cold glass of water before returning to the couch to wait for him. When he came back in she sat in appreciative silence for a moment taking him in, and then she stood taking his arm stretching up to kiss him on the cheek. “You look really nice.” Then she led him out the door, down through the lobby, past the Eclipse bar and into the station proper. There were a few stares and whispers, but mostly they were left mostly unbothered, until they got to the bottom level of the station and the crowd got thicker the closer they got to “The View.”

A man in a white shirt, black pants and suit jacket and a bright purple bow tie spotted her, perked right up and left his station by the door. “Mrs McKenzie, this way this way, your table is waiting.” And he proceeded to make a path through the crowd for them. It was a comical moment for Revna. She knew she had the reservation and so would be taken right in, but the amount of pomp the man was creating made it hard not to laugh.

He led them through the main dinning room, past the bar, and into a private dinning room. The floor and outer wall were all glass, the table situated so they could sit next to each other and see out to the view. The man left two menus on the table and then handed Revna a third, “I might suggest,” and he tipped the menu back towards himself to point at a listing. Revna pulled the list away from him, gently. “Thank you, but I think we handle this part.” There were two glasses of ice water in wine glasses on the table and that was it. The lights were low allowing the outside view to take center stage.
Revna ‘are you ready for this’ McKenzie

“Rev…” Mike said as he sat, dumbfounded, by the view. “This… this is just so…” and he smiled. “So spectacular.” and he leaned over, his hand going to the back of her neck and his lips to hers, and he kissed for as long as he could in such a setting. “I love you so much, Revna McKenzie.” he said, the view outside forgotten for the view next to him.

Mike ‘The View Was Better In The Room’ McKenzie

She rested her hand against his heart as he kissed her. The benefit of a private dinning room was they could kiss for as long as they wanted to and not be interrupted. The view really was spectacular and a bit disorienting if you weren’t careful. But that feeling of falling right before he kissed her, coupled with the feel of his hand on the back of her neck: knowing he’d catch her as she fell was incredible. She smiled slowly but it lit up her face. Her voice was a breath of sound between them, “I will never get tired of hearing you call me that. I love you with all my soul Michael McKenzie.” She kissed him again before sitting back slightly, but still holding his hand. “I hope you enjoy this.” She grinned and there was a soft knock on a second door joining the room to the kitchen. She looked up at the person peaking in and waved them in. She picked up her water and sipped it.

A Etanian man walked in, white apron, towel tossed over a shoulder and rolled up sleeves identified him as the bar tender. “Mr McKenzie, Mrs McKenzie welcome to The View. Your wife tells me you,” and he stops glances at Revna and shakes his head. He was not sure he should use the term the lady had. A wife could get away with a lot. “That you area a connoisseur of beer. She has arranged for you to sample the best fermented beverages that the Delta Quadrant can provide.” He picks up the third menu and offers it to Mike. “I can bring you a pre-determined selection or you may choose.” He looks at Revna, “I have arranged for the kitchen to match dishes to go along with your drink choices.”

Revna smiles, “Thank you Haighnak.”

Revna ‘the view is worth waiting for’ McKenzie

Mike smiled at Revna and said “You talked to Mardusk.” and he chuckled. He kissed her and said “So now I suppose I need to impress.” He smiled and then looked at Haighnak.

“Pre-determined is fine, but nothing too hoppy. Dark to amber in color, heavy malt, and light carbonation. I’m not familiar with very many Delta Quadrant brews, so I’d like to stay away from anything too far sour or sweet. I’d like to tour the quadrant without getting bogged down in any one sector. I really look forward to seeing what you have for us. Thanks.”

Mike ‘It Just So Happens I Do Know My Booze’ McKenzie

Haighnak’s eyes widened slightly as Mike talked and then a knowing smile crossed his face. Finally someone who understood. “I’ll be back with those in a bit and I will have the kitchen bring something to compliment them.”

Revna grinned squeezing his hand. “I did not talk to Mardusk, but that’s a really good idea for in future. And you always impress me.” She picked up the water again sipping it slowly looking out the clear floor. “It’s a bit unnerving isn’t it? You know I’ve spent a lot of time looking out view ports, but this…I’m glad I get to see with you.”

Haighnak returned with two servers, one carrying a tray of Darvot fritters. The other, like Haighnak, carrying a wooden tray with four small glasses of beer. One tray in front of Mike and the other in front of Revna. “The first is close to what on Earth would be called a Lager, but it not made with anything close to hops. It is made with Bantan which is very spicy, but not hot. It is unique to the Delta quadrant. Then you have a stout and two ambers. All three made with a grain similar to hops, that stout however may be heavier than you are used to. The ambers are slightly, but not too far, sweet to offset the Darvot Fritters. Please enjoy. I will bring another flight with your meal.” And Haighnak left, shooing the two younger servers out of the room.

Revna was not a beer drinker, not even close, she had absolutely no idea what the man had brought them. Now mead, she could discuss the finer points all night. “Alright, you’re the expert, where shall we start?”
Revna ‘I know you, my love’

“How about right here?” and he leaned over and kissed her deeply before smiling and breaking the kiss. “And now we should try the beer.” and he winked at her.

“OK.” and he clapped once and said “General rule of thumb is you start light and go dark. Lighter color generally equates to lighter flavors and aromas, so you don’t want to desensitized your pallet too soon. So, lager then ambers then stout. And a drink first, then a bite of food, then a bite with a drink, then rinse pallet.” He looked at Revna and said “I cannot imagine doing this with anyone else.” and he smiled.
