Walking back over to the bar he picked up the fresh glass the bartender placed in front of him. Picking it up he raised it to the bartender as a thank you before turning back to Faye. “Do I have you to thank for this as well?”

CWO Darach - COO

Faye held her hands up. “Don’t look at me, I had nothing to do with it. But I agree it’s well deserved,” she said with a warm smile. “Congrats Walker.”

Walker laughed, “Well thank you. I think he just wanted a reason to call me Chief again.”

Cochrane cleared his throat and said “Would Lieutenant Kiama Naim please join me up here? Lieutenant, I see you. Stop hiding behind Mr. Creed’s… I mean Big Daddy Kane’s… very unique coat and come up please. And leave the coat. We may need it to suppress a fire later. After all, I’m sure it won’t burn.”

Cochrane, CO

“Bahahah,” Celina let out a short bubble of laughter that seemed to echo in momentary silence between Cochrane speaking and Naim standing up to head towards the big boss man. “Sorry…sorry,” she said putting her fist to her mouth and faking a cough. Not one of the people in the room would buy it but she had to do something to try and at least cover it up for appearance sakes. Looking up at the Captian, Celina could not help but smile. The man was quick to laugh but serious as a judge when the occasion called for it. She was lucky to be under his command. Glancing back a Jack she raised an eyebrow. “See your sex appeal can pull off just about anything…but that coat.” Signaling for the waiter to come over, she gave Jack a smirk as the man set down four shot glasses in front of them. The game was an old one between them. They had played it on Orion and renewed it with the night Jack was resurrected when she had transferred to the Manhattan. At times the shots symbolized truth and honesty where the person who lied had to take another drink inspired by the old but constant truth that the more someone drank the honest they became. Other times it was purely a victory over someone proving a point. Right now it was the latter. Looking at Jack she setting back in her chair with a smirk. “If you can find a person that likes that coat I do a shot. Cochrane obviously is on my side so drink and point for Rodriguez,” she brought up a tally counter on her personal communicator and laid it between them clearly visible to Jack with a long white stripe marking a point for her under her name.

With one eyebrow raised Kiama looked at the Captain and then glanced at the coat, holding back a laugh. Putting down the plate she was holding, she took a deep breath and made her way towards Alex. As she came closer, she began to suddenly feel really nervous. Resulting in her posture getting even straighter if that was even possible. At the same time her steps become smaller and slower. But in the end she made it all the way towards him. Of course she knew that nothing bad was going to happen, but she didn’t understand why he had called her up here of all people. It didn’t feel right and that made her feel nervous and awkward.

~Lt. Naim, CSO

Picking up a small box, Cochrane looked at her and smiled. “Are you ready? Good.” and gave her a friendly wink. Turning to the crowd, he said “Lieutenant Naim is one of the finest Science officers I have had the honor to serve with. As we are the largest and most advanced Science vessel in the fleet, the Chief Science Officer position is one great responsibility and diligence. Lieutenant Naim has handled this role with the all of the grace and dignity one would expect of a noblewoman, not just an officer. That ability, coupled with her unswerving loyalty to her staff and friends and her ability to see things in way that make her a truly gifted scientist, are just a few of the reasons I take great personal honor in promoting Lieutenant Naim to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, effective immediately.” Turning back to Kiama, Cochrane smiled and handed her the open black box with her Lieutenant Commander pips set inside. “Congratulations, Lieutenant Commander Naim.” and he held out his hand to the scientist.

The crowd erupted into cheers. Apparently many on board knew the CSO and were excited for her.

“Good job Naim,” Celina said clapping heartily. She didn’t have much contact with the CSO past staff meetings but the woman’s reputation was one of professionalism and dedication. She was at the top of her field and the crew was lucky to have her, especially when those pesky ion storms showed up and she had to figure out where in the galaxy it came from and how to avoid them.

Cochrane

Her throat felt suddenly tight and dry and Kiama felt tears well up in her black eyes and blood rush to her face. Though the colour of her skin hid the fact that her face was practically burning. Taking first the small box and then the Captain’s hand in her trembling hands, she tried to say thank you, but couldn’t get the words out. So instead she took a small step forward and then leaned in to give him a brief, but tight hug. So what if that wasn’t the proper thing to do? Everyone who knew her, knew that she was a rather physical and often impulsive person when it came to hugging people.

Letting go of Cochrane, Kiama turned and disappeared back into the crowed. Feeling like she needed a moment to collect herself. This was certainly the last thing she had expected to happen today. After all, she had been promoted twice just prior to their last mission!

~Lt. Naim, CSO

Faye this time gave a double round of wolf-whistles for her dear friend- she drew looks from a few junior officers near her and Walker but she just flashed one of her ‘don’t mess with me’ grins. Ahhh! It felt good to be her lately. Incredibly proud as well, she’d give a much deserved hug to Kiama when she sought her out. For not Faye was happy to be near the sides away from the centre of the crowd and a possible panic attack.

~Faye Calloway

“If you ask her really nicely,” Walker said leaning towards some of the JO’s. “She might actually teach you how she does it.”

Laughing he gave them a wink as he went back to applauding for Naim.

CWO Darach - COO

“Next…” Cochrane said and looked out over the crowd, “… would Lieutenant Commander Zef Rollo please step forward.” He picked up another small box and waitd for te pale-skinned Counselor to join him.

Cochrane, CO

At first she thought she’d misheard Alex. There was no reason for her to go up onto the stage, but the people in the group she was standing in were looking at her expectantly. “Oh…um…here.” And she handed the drink in her hand to the nearest person and then made her way onto the stage, a silent question for the Captain in her eyes.

—Rollo, CNS

Cochrane looked at her approach and when she looked at him he simply smiled and turned to the crowd. “Lieutenant Commander Zef Rollo is known to all of us. Her support, candor, and unwavering commitment to those she counsels has served to bring us together as a crew… and succeed as individuals. Her dedication to Star Fleet and our core values of discovery, peace, and aid to those in need were on full display during our time with the Gravien people. Her unique talents allowed us to not only aid the Gravien people we met; but aid another people the Graviens were unaware were in distress. For her courage and commitment to the ideas we all swore to uphold, it is my great honor to promote Lieutenat Commander Rollo to the rank of Commander, effective immediately.”

He turned and held out the small black box containing the Commander pips. “Congratulations, Commander. And well earned.” and he held out his hand to her.

Cochrane, CO

The surprise on her face showed, but she did the best she could to cover it. Taking the box in one hand, she managed to perform a proper handshake with the other. “Thank you, Captain. I had no idea this was coming.”

—Rollo, CNS

As counselor’s went, Zef was one that Celina knew she could come to and the woman would always be there no matter how serious or trivial the problem was. Celina admired counselor’s greatly for the way they were able to take on everyone’s problems as if they were their own and not end up as crazy as some that walked through their doors. Zef Rollo did not just deserve a promotion but also a raise past the small increment her pay grade would now give her. Rollo was kind, gentle, and caring but tenacious and determined to do whatever was needed for whoever needed it. Celina wished she had the patience and candor of the woman receiving the promotion. She would probably be a better person for it but for now Celina enjoyed seeing Rollo get rewarded for all her hard work.

Pretha had been left speechless for long enough when Williams called her Ensign that the poor security guard had departed before she could reply. Glancing at Namid, she shook her head. “Forgive me. I am a little taken aback that Williams called me an Ensign since they just called me Lieutenant a few days ago on the planet at our last away message.”

When Zef walked up, she smiled. “We can talk as soon as this is over, if you wish. I have the feeling the Captain wouldn’t approve of us disappearing.” She laughed lightly better that anyone trying to leave this early would be punished in some unpleasant way.

As the awards began, she sighed and moved a bit closer to Namid and leaned on the wall. “I know that it’s necessary to do such great rewards on a shipwide scale so everyone can revel in the celebration. But sometimes I wish I could just take one of the watches and not have to get all gussied up.” She wasn’t fidgeting, much like a lot of the ladies in here, but she still didn’t feel all that comfortable in the getup.

Faye wolf whistled again and with all the gratitude she could muster. She had been sincere with her thank you letter- if Zef hadn’t been there taking steps with her through those treacherous waters of her mind Faye might be here right now in as great a place as she was.

Alex allowed for the crowd noise to start to dwindle before he spoke. “Now, if I may please have your attention yet again. WIll Ensign Kaia please come to the stage?” and he looked around for the diminutive Engineer.

Cochrane, CO

Creed clapped as he smiled at Kaia as they now had their next chance to be acknowledged as he sat back and looked over at Celina for a minute as he leaned in. “All I’m saying is the coat goes with this outfit, it was tailored just for this… if we are going to just sell off all my items to my family are we taking this watch?” Jack whispered to her as he took off the band from his wrist as he placed it onto the table. “It was 8k energy credits when we visited Helios Custer, gold-pressed lantiium and everything. Or better yet, how about those?” Jack said as he reached for her earlobe as he touched the earring she was wearing.

Celina’s eyes widened slightly. She and Jack weren’t hurting but it was not like she knew everything about how much money Jack had. When she wanted something she bought it. When she wanted a trip, they took it. There had never been a time when he came flat out and said they couldn’t afford it but if he could buy a watch for that price on a whim apparently he was worth far more than she knew.

“Antique from Nepal, 4k energy credits, you gonna get rid of those? They were a gift from me on our two-year anniversary. There is your Dad’s pen collection he gave me, who collects those is beyond me but they have to be priceless…or better yet, how about we see what we can get for your creepy doll collection, they gotta be worth something to some freak who lives in his mom’s basement and reenacts scenes from the Revengers for his iTube channel.” Jack said as he tried to not seem too obvious that was upset with her at the party as he stopped for a moment to nod encouragingly.

Creed, XO

“No,” she settled back. “They were a gift,” she touched her ears, “that,” she pointed to the coat, “was a bad impulse buy. Admit it. I am right, you had a fashion stroke with that coat. Now we are not selling off our possession like some vegan hobo bound to live off the land in a distant colony. Just donating that coat to the vegan hobo bound to live off the land in some distant colony unless they don’t even want it,” she let out a small chuckle.

“As to the creepy doll collection, it is one doll, Jack. She is Stella and not Annabelle and she is locked away in a trunk in the hold of the ship. I can’t get rid of her because of religious reasons. That coat has no religious implication so it goes and the doll stays.” Celina gritted her teeth picking up her drink. “In fact why don’t you trot down to the storage hold and put it on Stella because if Stella is not allowed in our quarters because she is creepy, then I call the same rule for that coat.”

Celina Rodriguez

Kaia had been clapping for everyone else, happy to see her friends being acknowledged. Her eyes went wide as she heard her own name, freezing like a deer in headlights for a moment before she shot forward, weaving her way through the crowd. She clambered up the stairs and looked at the Captain, a confused expression on her face.

Ens. Kaia, Eng.

Max stepped through the people and made his way to a spot closer to the front, late, as usual from keeping the ship from exploding from weird things in Jeffries tubes and hacked replicators that only served coffee.

Passing Creed and Rodriguez he paused a moment, eyeing Creeds jacket. “Nice Jacket,” he said with an impressed nod before continuing to his spot, watching for Jasmine and smiling as he saw Kaia up front.

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

Cochrane looked out at the crowd and said “Many of you do not know how hard our Engineers work. That is actually a compliment to the Department, because that means they do their jobs very well. But sometimes, even the best laid plans can go awry. During our mission to Graven, Ensign Kaia was part of the Away Team. She and our illustrious Chief Engineer were both injured while trying to assist in our efforts to aid the Gravien people; but despite injuries still managed to not only assist, but provide us with key information that helped us solve a problem that threated this very ship. For her efforts and dedication to our mission, …” and he turned and picked up a black box and opened it, displaying a ribbon and a medal. “… it is my honor to award Ensign Kaia the Star Fleet Commendation for Bravery and Selfless Service.” He turned to Kaia and smiled, handing her the box and whispered “Very well done, Ensign. I’m quite proud of you, you know.” and he turned back to the crowd. “A round of applause for Ensign Kaia, Ladies and gentlemen!” and Cochrane clapped as the crowd noise swelled up with applause.

Cochrane, CO

Faye cheered loudly for her friend (who knew she unexpectedly had so many!) and let out another round of wolf whistles for the diminutive engineer. So much had happened on the mission that Faye hadn’t been aware of until later and not for the first or last time did she feel so proud of the family she had attached herself to.

~Faye Calloway

Kaia coughed once or twice, glanced up at the Captain then down at the little box. She took it hesitantly, her surprise still on her face. She… She hadn’t done anything… She bowed. “Thank you, Captain,” she stammered while staring at the floor, then scurried back into the crowd, clutching the box to her chest. She was embarrassed. She wasn’t used to this much attention.
