Faye beamed at him. “Home is the place where you can be yourself, as you are, and feel safe while doing so,” she said, squeezing his hand.

“Speaking of…” Faye said with gleam in her eyes. “How’s the boyfriend. He coming to our shindig?” She tossed a wicked grin as Daggum and point to her mother. “Her and the Fed Security man,” she said with a wink.

Daggum grinned and said “Wait… he the guy that met you after you accosted me at the elevators?” and he grinned at Shara. “Bribed the desk staff to look out for you and they told me.” and he winked.

A knowing smile played across her lips and Shara lifted her fork. “Well, we weren’t exactly being discreet, now were we?” That had been the point. “And accost is such a strong word, don’t you think? I didn’t even a lay one of my very delicate fingers on you.”

“Ohhh, boyfriend was playing stalker too, Cool,” Faye said with a laugh.

Shara rolled her eyes. “I told you before, I’m a little old to have a boyfriend, and yes, he’s coming. I’ve asked him to bring some ‘shine, given he seemed to have a supply of it I’ve not bothered to question.”

“Uh huh. Sure. Because love has an age limit.” Daggum said and laughed slightly.

Shara still smiled, but something shifted slightly underneath it and she simply went back to eating her pasta. Of course, Faye had been observing her mother and she suspected what was weirding her mother out. But she also didn’t want to push buttons- it was’t necessary here. “Does Pickelsimer have a still somewhere we should know about?”

Shara laughed. “I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised.” She leaned towards Daggum. “I can tell the story now or later, but there was a clichéd man on Tracken who lived on his own and stayed away from the rest of us and had a still. Us adults told our youth exactly why to avoid it.” She shifted her gaze to Faye. “Some people however need evidence and proof,” she said, chuckling at her own pun.

“Oh oh oh…” Daggum said around a mouthful of burger, “… that sounds like a story. Spill it. Let’s hear it.”
