Faye chuckled too. “Yeah, well, this is Shara we’re talking about. Two peas in pod those two. Look, I don’t know Micah like you do, but I can tell you this. Mom grew up with a bitter father who turned to alcohol to soothe his wounded pride and then took out his anger on the universe on those he claimed to love. She ran away from home when she was sixteen, Alex! And I know a thing or two about running, so I get it. She wanted freedom and safety. But life has been unkind to her. I still have to stop and remember that while I was on Orion with him, she was in the Delta Quadrant desperate to get home to her husband and child. And then she learned that everyone was killed and she didn’t know I was alive for years after. And then she has spent the majority of her life undercover, with an alias.” Faye shook her head. “Now you go ahead and tell me that she’d accept someone who tried to bully their way into her life…”

Alex waved her off and calmed down a bit. “On no no no… not what I’m saying at all. Pikelsimer is just… well… he’s an acquired taste. Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy. And I trust him. And for how he is built, he is surprisingly not a bull-in-a-china-shop kinda guy… unless he has to be. It’s just… I dunno… I always saw him as him. Never as part of something else. I mean hell, that’s why he is so good at his job. He works so well off on his own. The idea of him married… it’s just a wholly foreign concept. But I am honestly and sincerely happy for them. I really am.” and he shook his head and sipped his coffee. He then grinned and said “Micah Pikelsimer is your dad now, Faye. Has that occured to you?” and he grinned.

Alex

She sipped on her own coffee. “Somewhere in the back of my brain the connection was made, but no, not really. I don’t know what that means yet. I mean, let’s be real, I don’t need a dad really. I’m all grown up. But having been on my own for so log, I’m not going to say no to good people being family, you know?”

“Good people he is. And I would suggest getting to know the man… on your own. He is… something else, that’s for certain.”

Faye eyed the ring on her left hand and gave a lopsided smirk. “Speaking of family, I did want to ask you something. We’re not sure when, but when we do, Dag and I would like for you to marry us. If you’re up for it?”

~Faye

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m washing my hair that day.” he said completely deadpan. It was a moment before he reached out and took her hand. “I’d be honored, Faye. It would absolutely be my honor.” and he squeezed and then let go.

A smile spread across his face and he said “Never been asked on a date by and asked to perform a wedding for the same woman. I gotta say… nothing in the Command Course about that.” and he laughed.

Alex

Faye tapped her chest with her finger tips and then spread out her arms wide. “Dude, nothing in that pretty little book of yours, and I guess mine now too, was ever going to prepare you for the totality that is me. Admit it,” she said with a wink before sipping on her coffee.

~Faye

“Faye… there is no force in the universe that could have prepared me for you.” and he laughed out loud. “I may take a demotion just so I can be on your first ship. The crew will need a translator until they learn to speak Faye.” and he laughed again.

Alex

“Ha!” she barked, falling into laughter. “I pity the poor soul who has to be my first officer. “But I think leaving them all a little bewildered for awhile would be great fun! And if they start to get antsy about the kind of person their new captain is, I’ll just point them to my pips and told them I earned them fair and square and they can just carry on and do those thing called orders.” She grinned.

Folding her arms on the table she studied Alex for a moment. “So when I ran into you mom and Racheal, the latter of whom subtly made a pass for my now fiancé by the way, your mom said there was had been some excitement after they arrived that was better by then. And we haven’t had a chance to talk, so… you okay?”

~Faye

Alex blew out a breath from puffed cheeks. “I am… adjusting.” He looked around and said quietly “How about we go to your quarters? You can show me that vid and we can chat somewhere less public.”

Alex

Her eyes took him in and Faye simply nodded. “You’re the captain,” she said softly.

Packing up her stuff, they moved to her quarters. Tess immediately hopped off the dining table and greeted them with a chirped meow. “Hey Sweetheart!” Faye said, stooping to scratch behind her ears. “But don’t think I missed you being on the table. You know better little miss.” Despite the lecture, Tess just wove her way through Faye’s legs and moved over to greet Alex. “it’s like having a kid,” Faye muttered, despite her smile.

“More coffee?” Faye asked Alex as she set herself down and moved to the replicator.
