As soon as the meeting after Luke’s arrival was done, Alex sent word to Faye that he was back and to be prepared for it. He then cleared his scheduled meeting with the Gravien Planetary Defence Council and sent word to Luke to meet him in the Officer’s Mess for a late lunch, if he cared to. Alex thought giving him a choice and seeing if showed would be the barometer for how his presence back on his ship would be. If he showed, ok… they might be able to have a civil discussion and hopefully get past… well… the past. If he didn’t show? Well…

It didn’t surprise Luke that Alex would want to see him so soon after all they needed to put the past where it was, in the past. The once Chief of Security officer had made some question choices and said some questions words but since then he’d grown and matured. That and been given a renewed interest.

Alex took a seat in the empty room. Harv came out and said “Oh, heya. Skipper. Didn’t expe-“ “Wyatt’s back, Harv. Civilian now. FedSec.” and he emphasized the last part. Harv nodded and said “You tell Calloway?” Alex nodded. “Ok. Reubens and beer coming up. Potato salad on the side.” and he disappeared into the kitchen.

“Captain” Luke said entering the officers mess, “Thankyou for your invitation, I hope I’m not late” he arrived knowing he wasn’t late but was keen to mind his manners and to build bridges with his host. “I didn’t think I’d be allowed in here anymore” he chuckled.

Alex looked up as Luke came in and he smiled a polite if not overly-friendly smile. “Special occasion. Harv is cleaning out the cold storage. You get to taste and tell him what’s gone bad or not.” and he laughed softly and held out his hand. “Have a seat.”

Taking the offer Luke sat down opposite Alex and settled into the seat. Looking around

Alex folded his hands on the table and looked at Wyatt. No sense beating around the bush. he thought silently and so he said “So why come back, Luke? Of all the places you could have gone… why back here? And what was with the lack of communication from your people?”

“I dont think there was really anywhere else for me to go, I was returning to the Delta Quadrant and I had despite the negatives roots here. I knew this ship and its crew and to my chain of command it made sense as for the lack of communication I think they get a buzz from ruffling a few feathers, I was given explicit orders not to contact you or anyone from this ship either during training or my journey here. I had a sneaky feeling that I was hand picked for this specific task.” Luke paused and then, “And even if it was my choice alone I think I’d still have picked this ship, I didn’t want to leave it how I left before.”

Alex listened and then sat back and thought for a long period in silence, watching Luke with a partially curious - partially judgemental look on his face. He leaned forward and crossed his arms on the table and said “Ok. The past is past, all right? I admire your desire to come back. And I think you taking such a step speaks volumes about the kind of man you are… which, regardless of the screaming match on the holodeck, is a man I respect.” and he smiled at Luke before continuing. “That being said… you know this ship. You know this crew. And you know how I do things. So I would like to ask you a favor, Luke. I know you have new bosses. And I agree that they get their jollies trying to be cloak and dagger and making themselves out to be super secret agents and such. The favor I would like to ask is that, even when they tell you to lie or just stay silent, help me understand what is happening. I wouldn’t ask you to disobey orders… but one thing Star Fleet Command, Intel, and FedSec all seem to forget is that we are on our own out here. They try and utilize us as they would any other ship… we are not just any other ship, and you of all people know that. And sometimes having information earlier than the brass think we should have it is the only thing that keeps us from being lost and so very far from home. Be honest with me. I’ll be honest with you. And maybe now that we are working together rather than for one another… maybe we can be a more effective team than we allowed ourselves to be last time. Think that is possible?”

Alex

Luke nodded, “Well actually that’s another reason why I took up your invitation.” He took out a small device and places it on the table, it was made to disrupt communication signals and was undetectable but normal means of surveillance, he then took out another device and placed it to the other this one emitted ultraviolet rays that scattered camera lenses but both were undetectable to any humanoid “Sorry for the show, I dont mean to be fancy or secretive but I know the organisation I work for now has a black smear within it and Id rather stay in thier good books, to anyone listening or watching it’ll just appear as a glitch.” He smiled.

“So heres the addition I want to share with you and to get into the meat and bones of it Federation Security wants me to highlight possible species, planets and or individuals suitable for recruiting as Federation Security operatives within the Delta Quadrant in an attempt to embed them at their governments highest levels. I wasn’t joking when I said their biggest concern is meeting another Dominion their answer is spying.” And there that was it. “We have about 2 more minute before the glitches look suspicious, and believe me I’m doing this because I know what secrets can do, Ill be having a similar chat with two other individuals once I think they’re safe and for mine and your own protection so we dont feel like getting together on the weekly nobody but will know who has been told, that’s the only secret.”

Cochrane looked hard at Wyatt for a long moment and then took a breath. “First. What FedSec does is their own business, but I will not allow anyone not vested in this crew or this ship try to dictate what we do from the shadows. If you are here to recruit, fine. But our primary mission is scientific exploration and discovery. And feel free to tell your superiors that, should I happen to find out about your recruiting task before I am made aware of it through you or them, I will be less than pleased. Encourage them to be upfront, will you? We will be much more likely to be successful if they are.” and he looked at the devices and nodded that Luke could turn them off. “Second… if anyone puts bugs my ship and tries to listen in, I’ll have Faye track them and go to town on their systems. If they want to hear what we have to say here, they can get off their fat a$$es and come here themselves. You know as well as anyone, I won’t say behind your back what I won’t say to your face.”

Cochrane, CO

“I know and Its not through trying this ship had had its fair share of secrets and meddling, but they want it their way maybe with time they’ll be a little less secretive I’m sure theirs things I don’t even know but I wanted you to know what I know and to do it by taking any precautions besides these were hard to get hold off.” Luke turned them off one after the other. “And thats pretty much it, if only I had more interesting news to share with you.”
