Alex looked at her for a long time in silence and then just nodded once. “Ok… so knowing you as I do, I’m going to do something that is going to make you really happy… but not before you get mad.” and he winked. =/\= Computer. Personnel file for Lieutenant Commander Faye Calloway. Flag for transfer off USS Manhattan in six months from todays stardate. =/\=

Faye’s jaw dropped open and it was clear her mind was working through permutations and hadn’t quite caught up to what was happening here.

The Computer chirped once and Alex looked at Faye. “Your happiness isn’t fixed here anymore… and I’m not going to let the whims of the Fleet keep you from that happiness. You have six months to get ready for your happiness. And I can’t wait to see it.” and he smiled at her. It was filled with joy, but was also bittersweet. He was gong to miss his friend.

Alex

She could barely breathe. Faye tried to take a larger breath, but she just.. couldn’t. Fingers tapping anxiously on her thigh, she shook her head in incomprehension. “No… it… but…” Tess bumped her hand and let out a plaintive ‘mew’. Uncertain what was happening but knowing her person was struggling Tess looked at Alex almost questioningly, and perhaps a little accusatorially.

“Six months…” Faye took a slightly larger breath, though it wasn’t quite enough just yet. “I can do that.” She didn’t sound so convinced. She hadn’t even planned how the change would work. The hows and whats mattered but leaving the Manhattan had scarcely been a full idea until Alex mentioned it. Just an idle thought. Nothing more. “I’m leaving,” she said, utterly dismayed. Alex was here. And so many other friends too. People who had seen her through really hard times. People she didn’t have to explain all the crazy stuff to. And she’d have to do that all over again. Somehow.

“In six months. And you’ll be leaving to go on your next chapter.” and he laughed. “Seriously, what did you think would happen? You’d make Commander, be qualed for an XO spot and then… what? You bump off Creed and stay my XO till I retire?” and he laughed again. “No, Faye…you’re getting too big for this ship. And you do better with definitive goals. So… what can I do to help you plan your wedding?” he asked excitedly, but with a hint of amusement.

Alex

Okay, so while that particular scenario had not crossed her mind, his point was well and truly made. What good was a command trained officer skulking around a computer lab? “Wedding… I’m getting married.”

Inhaling deeply, Faye gazed at Alex intently. She reached out a hand and took his. “Okay, hand holding time, though perhaps a little less literal,” she said with a tiny smirk. “Help me compose the message to my Uncle Gavin? I’ll do a written one and if he wants to come, he can contact me and I’ll give them to him. If not, oh well, nothing lost.”
