Luke couldn’t lie if he said he was surprised, not because of what they had but because it was Faye. He smiled “Wow it’s beautiful, you really have gone to a better place. Im so happy for you!” Again his words were genuine, what they had before wasn’t real, not really. He had no lingering feelings. Luke had worried about seeing her again, that it might ignite some deep desire and perhaps in other circumstances and if he hadn’t also changed it would have but all he felt now was happiness for her. “They’re a lucky person.”

For some reason his approval surprised her. But she was glad he wasn’t hurt, and if he was hiding it from her, ah well, that’s just how it was. Faye smiled softly. “We both are. I’m calmer with him in my life and he’s been through different but also similarly painful things, so he gets it. I still have my bad days, and I can still have moments where I dissociate, but it’s been less. And I got a cat!” she said with a laugh. “Approved service animal. An empathic cat. Tess can tell when I’m struggling and is trained to summon help in an emergency.”

~Faye

“Wow soon to be married, a cat woman” Luke mocked looking around as if he had lost something “Where’s the Faye I knew!” He chuckled, “Well I prefer this new one so maybe we can let her be.” He said back over looking the garden, “I’m happy you’re happy faye.” So perhaps he was a little sad, but who was he to upset what was obviously something good for her.

  • Luke Wyatt

She chuckled. “Oh, don’t you worry, I’m still me. And my t-shirt collection has grown too!” She leaned in towards him slightly. “And you know the best part about the whole Counter-Intelligence thing? Now instead of people giving me subtle looks of uncertainty, they’re just openly wary. Sooo much better,” she said with a laugh. “But hey, I’m also the Faye Calloway that is doing the Command Training Program, so, the craziest things are possible.”

“What about you, Luke? Where are you at? What’s the deal here?”

~Faye

He shrugged, “Well I’m definitely in a place which is far better than where I was. I cant say I have a cat or a Fiance but I’m settling and I’m hoping that by returning here I can repair some burned bridges and actually have the opportunity to settle here, as much as the Federation will let me I suppose.” Luke didn’t really have much to comment on, since he left he was recruited by FedSec, did his training and returned to the Delta Quadrant. “Nothing really interesting I guess.”

  • Luke Wyatt

She eyed him keenly for a moment. “BullSh!t,” she said firmly. “You can lie to others, but this is me we’re talking about. You might infuriate me at times and test every last nerve depending on the day, but I know Luke. Or at least I thought I did. You’re stubborn as all hell, so don’t you try to act like someone was twisting your arm and forcing you to be here and just accept it,” she said with a smile as she looked over the garden for a moment before she returned her gaze to him. “You came home. Go ahead and try to deny it.”

~Faye

He couldn’t help but laugh, “Well I mean if I had the choice I would have wanted to chose here anyway it just happened the choice was made for me but you’re right I wanted to come home and besides who else is going to infuriate and test you?” Luke couldn’t help but enjoy their conversation and time alone together they’d moved on of course and anything romantic was certainly no longer on the table but it didn’t have to end there. He’d always wanted the best for Faye and she was happier now than she had been before. “And i’m not stubborn just strong willed, you’re the stubborn one.” He quipped.

  • Luke Wyatt

“Well, I come by it honestly, as they say. You think I’m stubborn. My mother is worse. Once she’s set her mind on something, that’s it. Not that she won’t listen to reason and facts, mind you, but whew, if you want to convince her otherwise, you better be on your A-game, because anything less will get you laughed out of the room,” Faye said with a grin.

“So… business for a moment. What do we need to do to make sure we’re not getting in each other’s way? I mean, I’m good. There’s no more secret orders to worry about, but my stuff is still classified or on a need to know basis most of the time. Is that going to be a problem?” Faye asked.

~Faye

“I dont think we’ll get in each other ways, I have my job and you have yours, before perhaps they aligned, crossed or interrupted each other but I definitely don’t need to know what your doing on this ship, my mission is whats going on off. So shoot as many command staff personnel as you want” He joked referring back to where things first started to go wrong for them and mostly him.

  • Luke Wyatt

Calloway snorted. “Yeah, don’t expect that to ever happen again. Extraordinary circumstances and all.”

She looked down to the right, where the path finished, or began, depending on how you looked at it. “Just before you left, after that last… discussion, argument, whatever you want to call it, I fell apart Luke.” She turned her oft-stormy gaze bak on him, everything about her calmer than he’d probably seen her before. “I know it’s strange but I almost owe you thanks too. If things hadn’t gone the way they had with us, I’d not have shared the last secret that was holding me back. Things that shaped my entire life, who I am, how I interact wth people. You know better than most I’m not the cold person people assume I can be. But I buried who I was like I was having to like in some bunker. I liken what happen to me as not breaking down, but breaking open. The pieces couldn’t go back where they were because they weren’t meant to. And I’ve bene doing this slow building, trying to understand the new place I find myself in. So… thanks for being a part of that, even if it was quite the disaster,” she said, breaking into a smirk.

~Faye Calloway

It was Lukes turn to snort, something he didn’t do very often, “Well I only aim to please” Letting out soft sigh, “I only ever wanted to the best for you and that always remained true and me leaving was probably the best thing though I must ask if I do ever beat the odds and find someone willing to put up with me maybe we dont tell them that story” Chuckling again, “I’m glad in some way I helped.” And he was, ofcourse he’d wonder how things might have gone if he’d stayed
. Maybe she’d still have cracked and he’d have been there to hold her hand and guide her back to herself or maybe it would have been even worse. Who knew.

  • Luke Wyatt

Faye studied him for a long few moments. “I’m not proud of the way I handled everything when it came to you, but I’m not ashamed of it. I was in crisis, Luke. It was what it was. And I shared a lot of things about myself that I don’t share with just anyone these days. So why not tell whomever you find happiness with about the woman who was a big confusing question mark for you? It’s a part of both our stories now and there’s no reason to hide from it. I’ve told Daggum the entire thing. Now, I’d highly advise against hitting on me between now and the wedding, because dude he’d crush you like a bug, but I think I know him well enough that he’d thank you too,” Faye said with a wink.

~Faye Calloway

“A Bug huh? I fair my chances” he chuckled and shook his head, “You can tell him to rest easy. I don’t think I could see you in that way again, no offence but its just that id figure were better off friends than anything else.” He scanned the garden, “Well I’ve lost the motivation to actually get anywhere with my work and im not getting any younger which means I need my beauty sleep. See you around? Maybe even meet Daggum.”

  • Luke Wyatt

“I’ll be around, more than usual too. You’ll, gasp, see me on the bridge from time to time too as not only does my work bring me up there but I’ll be in charge of the bridge once I get a little farther into my command training. As for Dag, well, he’s a Starfleet officer as well assigned to a ship in the Alpha Quadrant, so next time he’ll be here will likely be for the wedding.” She shrugged. “But who knows, stranger things have happened.”

Faye leaned back on the bench intending to stay under her tree for awhile longer. “And Luke? I’m glad you’re okay. I’ve felt pretty damn rotten about how everything went down and I’m glad we could makes things right between us. It means a lot to me,” she said quietly.
