With the way things had gone, Kiama had never actually reported for duty with the First Officer after she had become the Chief Science Officer. She had always meant to, but between their last mission, their shore leave and everything, she had never managed to get around to it. Determined not to let that happen again, she now made her way over to the First Officer’s office. As always when on duty, her black, curly hair was tied back in intricate braids that where then pinned up at the nape of her neck. However, it was only after she had already pressed the chime that she realised that she should have checked if a) the First Officer was actually in their office and b) if they had time to see her. ‘Oh well, too late for that,’ she thought to herself while looking a little chagrined.

Shedda was indeed in her office. She had been going over the previous XO’s reports and files. Getting an idea of where he was, paper work wise, before he had been reassigned. She just wanted to get a sense of the ship but not specifics. She wanted to meet the crew with fresh eyes. She was in the process of composing a memo to go out to the DHs asking them to come by her office when they had time. Shedda would eventually go down to each department to look around, but departments had their own rhythm and schedule and the last thing she wanted to do was show up in the midst of a whirlwind and stress everyone out. She looked up at the chime. “Come In!”

As she stepped into the room, Kiama quickly took in her surroundings and gave the First Officer a warm smile as she said, “Good day Commander. I am Lieutenant Commander Kiama Naim, Chief Science Officer. For a number of reasons I never reported for duty with Commander Creed and before duty kept me again from doing so, I thought it might be good to do so now. Though if this isn’t a good time for you I’m happy to schedule something when it works better for you.” As always her posture was perfect, almost unnaturally so, and her arms were folded behind her back. And yet despite what might be perceived as stiffness, there was a warmth, openness, even gentleness about her.

Shedda stood and walked around the side of her desk and offered her hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Cmdr Naim. Please have a seat.” She pointed to the chairs in front of the desk. The office was bare, lacking any personal touch, except for a medium sized crate sitting in a corner, the lid cracked open but nothing unpacked as of yet. Shedda moved with purpose, no movement wasted or exaggerated. Her hair was jet black, straight and pinned into a neat low bun. Her grip was firm and carefully controlled. But her body language conveyed welcome and a sense of reassurance. “Now is just fine. So you have been on board for a bit of time now? What do you think of your department?”
