Ok, this is hard, but it is good…With the loss of Steven, we lost not only a good friend but a dedicated XO. And while we still miss our friend, we need to ensure the work he put into the Manhattan doesn’t get lost in our grief. So in that vein…
After some careful consideration, and more than a few private conversations, I am announcing that our own Jennifer Ward is taking up the duties of Executive Officer. While the need to fill role saddens me, having Jennifer in the role makes me very happy. Not only is she a great writer, an experienced club member, and adept administrator behind the scenes; she is a good person who understands and is conscientious of the difficulties of this particular transition.
Please give Jennifer a warm Manhattan welcome to her new role; and let’s all do our best to show everyone that the Manhattan will always be one of the best ships in the club, in no small part because of Steven and his legacy…
And also because of us, the crew of the Manhattan.

Many of you know me and we’ve interacted in, around, and out of the club. For those of you who don’t, I’ve been a member of STF off and on since 1999.
I know the ship and its crew have had a devastating loss. I didn’t know Steven outside of STF and his writing. I do know he had a great sense of humor and was kind to others. And he was also an incredible writer.
I know this is a sad and awkward time for for all of us. I really have no words except to say that I hope I can help, and that I will try to do the best job I can do to help us all through.
