“You’re wonderful,” the words rolled off their tongue before they had a chance to articulate them. A humble smile wove into their features, but they didn’t break her gaze. “I value you and whatever connection this becomes,” Namid gestured between them, “so it’s a two-way street. Whether about family or boundaries or the question tickling your thoughts.. I want to be open with you, too.”

“You are as well,” Kiama replied with a soft smile. She suddenly had a tingly feeling in her stomach and felt heat rising to her cheeks. “And so do I. On the one hand there is still so much we don’t know about each other and at the same time I feel like we have known each other much longer than we actually have. Do you know wh I mean?” she asked and locked her eyes with Namid’s.

~Lt. Naim, CSO

“It’s almost…” Namid’s gaze wavered in thought, only to trace its way back to hers. Bewildered, they shook their head and took in a soft, reflective breath, “…surreal. As you said, we’re practically strangers in the social sense, but this feels natural.” Their cheeks seemed to rust, turning a deep shade of red. “And that’s not something I can say for most.”

“Yes,” Kiama replied softly, her smile tender.

Their meal had deserted itself to the back of Namid’s mind. In its place, an idea started to brew. “Tell me if I’m overstepping,” a bashful grin infected their lips, “but when are you free, next? There’s something I’d like to show you.”

— Namid Argimeau, Scientific Intel

“I will. You aren’t, though,” Kiama replied sincerely. “I’m currently working alpha shift, as you do, if I remember the duty schedule correctly that I created. So I’m generally free in the evenings. My next full day off is two days from today and of course we all get R&R and shore leave as soon as we’re back at Event Horizon. So, yeah, whenever works best for you just let me know and I’ll be there,” she continued, a glimmer of excitement and almost giddy anticipation in her black eyes.

~Lt. Naim, CSO

Namid’s eyes zealously shone with a fleeting smile made to absorb the pensive expression that touched their lips. “Shore leave’s perfect,” they mused. “There’ll be less time to worry and more to enjoy the company and scenery.” They spoke simply, but it was impossible to neglect the sincere enthusiasm stirring every fibre of their being. “How does that first Thursday, sound?” Namid asked. “If something comes up or you make plans, we can always move it back.”

OOC: Gentle bump for whenever you’re reading. :)
— Trin

OOC: I’m sorry I kept you waiting so long Trin. RL has been … difficult and I’m still struggling with my mental and physical health and am very low on spoons because of that.

IC:
“Thursday sounds wonderful! And I haven’t made any plans for my time off yet. So unless something very unexpected happens, I’ll definitely be free,” Kiama grinned. “Anything I should bring or wear?” she added, her expression full of excitement and enthusiasm.

OOC: Not at all. Spoons are finicky—sometimes plentiful, sometimes lacking. So, take as much time as you need! :)

Namid’s eyes crinkled in a smile. “Great! Just bring yourself,” they paused, “oh… and a comfortable pair of shoes. Regulation boots get a little stiff after awhile.” Their gaze strayed to a nearby chronometer. It mocked them, not with accusations of tardiness but the inevitable truth that lunch would end they’d drift back into the daily routine. Namid shook it away. “So, do you want to meet up on the Event Horizon,” they asked, “or shall I stop by?”

— Namid Argimeau

“Stop by,” Kiama replied almost instantly, a wide smile playing across her dark face while she felt blood rush into her cheeks. It had been a long time since someone had picked her up for a date and the plans they were making certainly felt like a date date. “And bringing myself and comfortable shoes is definitely doable,” she added with a wink. Her gaze had followed Namid’s to the chronometer, but she really didn’t want to think about her lunch break being eventually over. Not because she didn’t like her work. Most of the time she actually loved it and would forget everything else over it. But she hated that she and Namid would have to part ways for now. Especially since the first week on the station seemed so far away.

Namid halted, their breath escaping without the crafty quip they’d prepared to save themself from the embarrassment of ‘meet you at the Event Horizon’. But she agreed. What were they supposed to say now? Namid managed a slight, delighted smile. “Uh… perfect!” They regained their composure and jabbed a reluctant thumb at the chronometer. “I’ve got a nagging feeling that clock has it out for us,” they sighed, “are you ready to head out?”
