Revna shrugged with a small laugh, “I have no idea, yet. I haven’t really done much. I attended a few dinners during my ‘training’ and then there was my interview of course…that was fun,” Revna grinned wickedly. “I suppose it’s not all the different than what I’ve been doing with my da since I was younger. Similar skill set as being a counselor, but I’ve not really had to do anything yet. I guess I’ll see soon though. I have a dinner and meeting with a delegation from Ilidaria at the end of the week. They are fairly friendly, or so I’ve been told.”

“Better you than me,” Faye said with a laugh. “Though I suppose I better improve my diplomacy skills or else I’ll be a crap commander.” A chuckle rumbled through her throat. “Though I’m sure whatever crew I eventually lead will be given a disclaimer before I arrive. Something about dropping your expectation because this ride is going to be unlike any you’ve been on. That being said, I’ll take any tips you think they might not tell us in the program.”

“Hmmm....I’ll keep notes.” Revna thought about it a bit, “Though the first thing I will say, from all my experience, bluster and threats are usually because the person is afraid. Not all, some cultures are different. But if they aren’t afraid and are confident they don’t need to bluster. So when they are afraid, the trick is knowing if they will back down or if they feel they are cornered. And that just takes experience.”

Faye nodded. “Not unlike my freighter days,” she said with a tiny grin. “Before I joined Starfleet I worked on all sort of ships doing odd jobs to get by. Encountered all sorts. A lot of it is trusting your instincts about a situation and knowing how to get yourself out of it if you miscalculate,” she added with a laugh. Ahhh, one of these days she should take a moment to look up Captain Jerk and see what became of him. But Faye also was scared to know and at this point knew it was better she didn’t. Though she did think Dirk Jensson would be terribly proud to see what had become of her all these years later.

“We forget, with all our technology and luxuries that we are, in the end, still animals. We have instincts for a reason and we should trust them. But we are taught not to do so, that we must always analyze and evaluate in an intellectual manor. Life…doesn’t follow those rules. And knowing that, that you have instincts and trusting them, is what makes the difference between successful captains and those who are not captains.” Revna leaned back staring up, taking a deep breath, taking in the scents floating around the garden. “Amazing isn’t it? Your plants are essential for our survival, we must have the oxygen they produce to live, but they in turn need our carbon dioxide to survive.”

A deep smile etched itself into her features and Faye nodded. “Growing up on Tracken, I spent my life mostly outside in nature. Walking through the woods, swimming in the lake, working in the gardens. It made the rest of existence somehow easier because people baffled me,” she said with a chuckle. “They still do, but it’s why I have my t-shirts and warnings.”

Revna shook her head with a small smile, “You sound like my sister. You need to show me these t-shirts and warnings because I think she needs one. She’s a teacher, great with kids and parents, but you should see her OUTSIDE of work....terrifying, like a slow moving hurricane on the sea.”

Faye laughed loudly. “Oh gods, you’re right, we would get along great,” she said shaking her head. “Alex teased me one day that I was a special kind of chaos. He’s not wrong! As for t-shirts, let’s see, there’s the one I’m wearing which says ‘I garden so I don’t choke people, Save a life, send mulch’. Another says ‘I have a good heart but this mouth’, umm, ‘I came, I saw, I made it awkward’, and always a good favourite ‘Everyone was thinking it, I just said it’.” She chuckled some more.

Revna laughed, “Oh I like those. The awkward one would work for my sister. Except she makes it awkward on purpose. My mom once said that she spent too much time with her preschoolers. Said Runa spent so much time with her preschoolers that she forgot how to use her filter. OH! A couple years ago my younger sister got her a t-shirt with a Rune Wheel on it and then it said ‘Stay Wild’ in runic letters. Runa says it’s the best because guys always ask what it means and starts a great conversation on why it’s written in ‘code.’ There are no end of answers she’s come up with. Then on her next birthday Runa got our sister a t-shirt with a picture of Valkyre on it and it said ‘The Best Way to a Man’s Heart is Through His Fourth and Fifth Ribs.’ That one describes my little sister to a T. I understand she wore it at her last tournament. Fortunately I have managed, some how, to dodge the t-shirt gifting.”
