Alex sat in his Ready Room and was reviewing personnel files. It was then the alert came up.

With the change in Counselors, he was now do for a fitness review, standard for the CO when a new Counselor came on board. Fleet felt it ‘set the example’. Cochrane wasn’t of that particular school of thought… but rules were rules.

He pulled up the Counselor’s schedule and saw she was free in an hour. He tapped his comm badge and said =/\= Captain Cochrane to Counselor Songz. Would it be possible for you to do a fitness evaluation with me in an hour? =/\=

There was a small pause before Songz’s melodic voice sounded through the comm. =/\=Absolutely! Please do come on by Captain,=/\= she said, her tone filled with warmth.

Cochrane adjusted his schedule, made some last minute checks on the ship’s systems , and then made his way to the Counselir’s office. Reaching the door, he lifted a finger to press the chime when a thought struck him.

Zef wasn’t there. For the first time since he knew her, this wouldn’t be her office. Cochrane shook his head and pressed the chime.

The door slid open and Sair smiled at Cochrane. She stepped to the side and gave a sweeping gesture with a hand. “Come in and find a place to sit,” she said simply.

A large area rug in muted blues, greys and greens spanned half of the therapy area in front of her desk and she had set a small round coffee table in front of a small sofa and two arm chairs, all in a blue-grey colour. Behind that was her desk with two basic chairs in front and a pale wooden shelving unit to the left by the replicator.

Next to the door was a stone sculpture that was half the height of the door. Carved out of white dolomite, it was a miniature replica of the giant tree that was in the lobby of he Assembly Complex in Kobliad’s capital. The tree had a wide trunk with the appearance of a thick bark and was easily deciduous with sweeping branches with teardrop shaped leaves. Carved around the trunk of the tree were arms with hands seeming to hold the tree and they wound themselves up the trunk.

Rising from her desk and tapping a couple keys to turn off her computer, Sair stepped around and stood next to the sculpture, her fingers casually brushing the leaves on a branch. Given she was on duty, Sair was dressed more formally to suit her position, in slim black trousers and long sleeved blue tunic of medical, and her medium length lilac hair was loose though, falling at her shoulders. “Are you a beverage or food kind of person in your sessions? It surprised me when I did my training at Starfleet Medical just how often Federation therapists offered food and drinks, but of course it makes a lot of sense having lived at least a little time amongst others.”

Cochrane looked around at the remarkable change… and felt oddly better there was nothing of the previous occupant in it. Taking a breath, he said “Beverage, please. Black tea with milk and honey, if I may.” and he found a seat in one of the chairs.

“The office has transformed remarkably, Counselor… its very… comfortable.”
