The door slid open and Sair smiled at Cochrane. She stepped to the side and gave a sweeping gesture with a hand. “Come in and find a place to sit,” she said simply.

A large area rug in muted blues, greys and greens spanned half of the therapy area in front of her desk and she had set a small round coffee table in front of a small sofa and two arm chairs, all in a blue-grey colour. Behind that was her desk with two basic chairs in front and a pale wooden shelving unit to the left by the replicator.

Next to the door was a stone sculpture that was half the height of the door. Carved out of white dolomite, it was a miniature replica of the giant tree that was in the lobby of he Assembly Complex in Kobliad’s capital. The tree had a wide trunk with the appearance of a thick bark and was easily deciduous with sweeping branches with teardrop shaped leaves. Carved around the trunk of the tree were arms with hands seeming to hold the tree and they wound themselves up the trunk.

Rising from her desk and tapping a couple keys to turn off her computer, Sair stepped around and stood next to the sculpture, her fingers casually brushing the leaves on a branch. Given she was on duty, Sair was dressed more formally to suit her position, in slim black trousers and long sleeved blue tunic of medical, and her medium length lilac hair was loose though, falling at her shoulders. “Are you a beverage or food kind of person in your sessions? It surprised me when I did my training at Starfleet Medical just how often Federation therapists offered food and drinks, but of course it makes a lot of sense having lived at least a little time amongst others.”

Cochrane looked around at the remarkable change… and felt oddly better there was nothing of the previous occupant in it. Taking a breath, he said “Beverage, please. Black tea with milk and honey, if I may.” and he found a seat in one of the chairs.

“Coming right up,” Sair said as she moved to the replicator. She ordered his drink and something called ekal which the replicator produced as a milky looking hot drink with a dark powder on top.

“The office has transformed remarkably, Counselor… its very… comfortable.”

She smiled as she brought over their drinks and set them down, sitting in the other chair which were turned towards each other about forty-five degrees. “Thank you. One of the things I was most adamant about as a counsellor back home. I learned first hand how an environment could help or hinder a person’s well being and to be honest, this is as much for me and my anticipated long hours, as it for for the people who walk through that door.

Sair sipped from her clear glass cup, gazing at Cochrane from over the edge. The heat of the ground ekalonlenum seeds on top flooded her mouth sending a shiver of pleasure through her. It was a peculiar spice that she just never could get enough of, though some felt it was too ‘perfumy’ for them. She enjoyed that aand the heat it gave off. “Now, before we get going I will be honest that you are the first higher ranking officer I’ve have to evaluate. I know what Starfleet guidelines say but I also trust my intuition much of the time. I’m also quite blunt if needed and Kobliads tend away from humour. That being said, I might not always get everyone’s jokes, but I like to think of myself as having a good sense of humour. I don’t want us to misunderstand each other as this goes along, so if anything I’m asking or saying doesn’t make sense, please do let me know.”

Cochrane inclined his head and thennsipped his tea. “Fair enough by me, Counselor. And one thing I have never been accused of is being indirect. Trust me, if I have an issue, I will tell you.” and he chuckled. “Part of the job description, after all.”

“Good, ” she said with a smile. “Now, I’ve been doing my best to do my reading so I have a grasp of where everything is at, but why don’t you sum up where the Manhattan is right now and how you as her commanding officer fit into all of that?”
