Faye’s words resonated with Revna deeply, and she blinked as she looked at Faye, “Why hasn’t some one slapped me and said that to me before?” She shook her head and waved it away to contemplate later.

Her brow furrowed. *Say what? Faye thought before Revna continued.

“First of all, I think it’s wonderful that despite your careers you are putting yourselves, each other, first.” Revna folded her hands into her lap and met Faye’s gaze, “You don’t do it with out spiraling. You do this one moment at a time. You don’t fully think about, you think about it in sections. And you have a plan for when you do spiral. Because you know, we know, that you will be triggered. It may be something that has triggered you before, so something you have never encountered. So my first piece of advice is be realistic of your expectations of yourself. Your past will always travel with you, but it doesn’t steer the direction of your future. Second be honest about what helps and what does not help, and then third, tell those things to people you trust to help you in those moments.” Revna spread her hands open and grinned, “Then the fun part, don’t wait to think about this massive change. Not all of it, not all at once, but start thinking about the little pieces, and have fun in the planning. And if some pieces are too hard, I’m here, and so are your friends.”

She nodded slowly, taking it all in. “Right now I’m just planning a wedding. I’m not a huge fan of parties but this one is special and I’ve not had many truly special days in my life and I have surprised myself by wanting one. I guess… I guess after everything and how unusual everything unfolded I wanted something special to mark the day. I mean, trust me we thought about eloping but I’m glad we didn’t. And no mater how weird it will be to possibly have all this long lost family there too, it feels right because I’m not avoiding feeling connected to others”

“If you want one then you should have it, and the way you want it. A party doesn’t have to be huge in order to enthusiastically celebrate the day.” Revna thought over what she said, “So right there I hear two specific things that feel overwhelming to you. Planning your wedding, and long lost family. Now knowing that such things will flip flop places in importance at times, which do you want to approach first?”

“Wedding details first,” Faye said without hesitation. “But one of those details is the fact that we’re inviting my uncle Gavin. I’ve never met the man but apparently, despite the bad history between him and my mom, he sponsored my Academy application. I wouldn’t have the career and life I do without him, so we’re inviting him. And I need to make contact to send that invitation. So… yeah.”

Revna nodded, “So he’s in Star Fleet. Do you know where he’s posted so that you can send that message?” The was a hard situation. Families were complicated, even ones like hers that were deeply attached. And with everything else Faye was dealing with, Revna was sure the idea of contacting and reuniting with estranged family over whelmed her quite a bit.

Faye nodded. “Yep, and even if I didn’t, I’m an Intelligence officer and that sort of information is super easy for me to find out.”

In truth, she was worried about how she’d adjust to new people on the Athena, but Dag would be there, and Alex was just a call away. And of course, her mother. Her mom. Her mom would be somewhere, just a call away. And that blew her away. Nodding, more to herself than anything, Faye swallowed down the intense emotion and took in a deep breath. Yeah, there was still a lot to process.

Revna very carefully reached out and placed a gentle hand over Faye’s, “It will come together. I have some seeds I was hoping to grow. Red campions. I wanted to pot them and keep them in my quarters. I heard there were supplies in the garden. Would you care to help me? And we can keep chatting or enjoy the silence.”

Faye found herself nodding. “Yeah, happy to help. I think I saw some campion varieties in the seed storage cooler. It’s in the green house.” Chatting while she worked always helped. She wasn’t good at being idle while she worked through difficult things and having something positive to focus on helped too.

Revna got up from the bench, waited for Faye, and then began walking back toward the path, eventually following where Faye led because she had no idea where the materials were that she needed. “So will you get married here on Manhattan or where Daggum is stationed, or some totally exotic destination?” Revna knew in a few weeks she would be getting calls from family and clan asking for the same details. She and Mike were already married, but there would be a massive celebration and ceremony anyway. She knew exactly where she wanted it to be, or she used to, now she had a different idea.

As they meandered back towards the greenhouse where the supplies were kept (the greenhouse was right by Faye’s raised bed they had been working in earlier), Faye found herself pensive. Not in a bad way, just… deeply thoughtful. “Here. When Alex prompted the discussion about my leaving the ship, I told him I’d leave right after the wedding, that I wanted it here in this garden and to have one final terribly happy memory here on the Manhattan before I go off with Dag to the Athena to create a life with him. It feels… right. We came to an agreement,” Faye said with a grin. “I get to plan most of the wedding and he is taking care of the honeymoon, and bet you anything it’s not going to be some sort of beach vacation.” Faye laughed.

Revna knew her way around planting, she looked around, quickly finding a seed tray and soil and filling a can with water. She sat down, on the ground, feeling the moss and grass of the garden beneath her. “I’ve been carrying these around for awhile. My Uncle Oddvar saved them and gave them to me the last time I was on Earth.” She pulled out a packet of seeds from her pocket.

“Well that’s most of the work done then. Having it here, in the garden, Faye it’s beautiful here. No decorations required. You just have to pick the spot.” Revna grinned, “Maybe in front of that mushroom house you told me about?” Revna knew that might be too personal to share, but Revna was a quietly sentimental person and thought that Faye and Daggum getting married in front of something that carried so much meaning for Faye (and she suspected Daggum too) was beautiful. Honeymoon…? That had her grinning, “I would think not, beach vacations are a bit…cliché and I doubt your Daggum has ever done anything cliché. If I let Mike plan the honeymoon, I can promise that it would be something that I would never be able to guess. I can promise it would be magical and top our first date. And that’s saying something.”

“And you know, I’ve only talked to him a few times, but I bet you could leave all the food, cake, drink…all that to Chef Harv. He’s like a food magician.”
