Revna knew her way around planting, she looked around, quickly finding a seed tray and soil and filling a can with water. She sat down, on the ground, feeling the moss and grass of the garden beneath her. “I’ve been carrying these around for awhile. My Uncle Oddvar saved them and gave them to me the last time I was on Earth.” She pulled out a packet of seeds from her pocket.

“Smart man,” Calloway commented, moving easily into the seed planting motions she’d gone through many, many times before.

Revna worked at filling the tray with soil and then gently placing the seeds. “My uncle really is an amazing man. My aunt was a doctor and grew all medicinal herbs and plants. She taught him.”

“Well that’s most of the work done then. Having it here, in the garden, Faye it’s beautiful here. No decorations required. You just have to pick the spot.” Revna grinned, “Maybe in front of that mushroom house you told me about?” Revna knew that might be too personal to share, but Revna was a quietly sentimental person and thought that Faye and Daggum getting married in front of something that carried so much meaning for Faye (and she suspected Daggum too) was beautiful. Honeymoon…? That had her grinning, “I would think not, beach vacations are a bit…cliché and I doubt your Daggum has ever done anything cliché. If I let Mike plan the honeymoon, I can promise that it would be something that I would never be able to guess. I can promise it would be magical and top our first date. And that’s saying something.”

Faye snorted as she thought about Dag’s idle pondering of visiting Orion. As if that could be a vacation for either of them. But she could see the logic behind the unconventional stop. So much of their past, of their trauma was wrapped up in that place and maybe it was time to finally say farewell not just to the planet, but its inexplicable hold on both of them. Maybe that was the gift they could give themselves as they started a new life together. Things to mull over later, for sure.

“And you know, I’ve only talked to him a few times, but I bet you could leave all the food, cake, drink…all that to Chef Harv. He’s like a food magician.”

Faye grinned. “Indeed. He and I chit chat pretty regularly and he knows the kind of food I like. Though maybe we’ll up the formal quotient and not serve stew,” she said with a laugh. “But honestly, I’m not fussed much and I can’t see myself getting anxious over the details.” Faye stopped as she put away some of the tools. “Or, my BPD gets fixated on this because it precedes a lot of upcoming change and insists on everything being a certain way. Whew! Yeah, we better watch out for that because goodness knows you don’t me on overdrive right before I make a bunch of vows. Scary for everyone, trust me,” she said, raising her brows in emphasis.

“I have seen some of the things that come out of Harv’s kitchen. His stews are great but if you asked him for stew for your wedding the man might cry,” Revna laughed softly. “Hey, as long as you are happy and Dag can keep up, go into over drive. It’s your and his day. Nothing else matters. But that’s kind of the point of deciding the details now, right. These aren’t the ones that overwhelm, so don’t give them a chance. Go ahead and decide and then they don’t sneak up later. AND that gives you plenty of time to handle anything your BPD throws at you.” Revna finished moistening the dirt in the tray, “So how many weeks do you have left?”

Seventeen,” Faye said with a sigh. “Too many, and yet I haven’t started really planning all that much. But it’s not a big wedding and if my mom and I could throw together a wake with only a couple days notice, I’m sure I can manage a wedding given I have plenty of people who can help. There was that inevitable conversation to have with a certain Uncle of hers, and she knew she’d have to stop putting it off sooner, rather than later. “But the thing that I’m spending more effort on is the ceremony, the rituals we could do. At the end of the day I don’t care what we eat or what I wear, though they are elements that enhance the specialness of it all. It’s just…” Faye exhaled. “On Tracken weddings were the most special gatherings in our community and that’s what I want here. I want to gather so much love around us when we make our vows that we can’t help but that carry it forward with us as we build a new life together. Does that sounds weird or sappy?”

“Not at all. Faye I come from a clan that is stepped so much in our traditions and community. Weddings are…a week long party. Those things are important. So, not limiting here, but if I had to pick only one thing out of all our traditions to have at my wedding, it would be my vows and how they are delivered. So if you could pick one thing from the weddings you remember on Traken that you want, what is it? Then you can add around that or take away or alter. What was it that conveyed that love?”

For a moment Faye closed her eyes, letting the memories flit to the surface. It was hard. Tracken evoked such strong negative memories that she struggled when it came time to pull the happy ones. They were so enmeshed that she couldn’t fully extract them unharmed. But even the glimpses she still had showed her community gathered in a loving circle with the officiant and the couple in the middle. “The circle,” she said, returning her gaze to the present. “Everyone stood around the couple as they made their vows and at the dinner too, the dance floor centred the space and we all sat in tables in one giant circle, connected.” She beamed. “I want that,” Faye breathed.
