Cochrane sat in the Ready Room reviewing the file of the Manhattan’s new Helm Officer. He nodded slightly as he read, it was a solid record. But there was more to the position than just moving the ship, and Cochrane wanted to see what kind of personality was going to be on the bridge. =/\= Lieutenant JG Aevin to the Ready Room. =/\= he said flatly into the shipwide comms and then he sat back, reading.

what could he possibly want? Another transfer, perhaps? It wouldn’t be my shortest stint. Aevin rose from his seat behind the desk in his quarters and left the last of his unpacking behind. He walked down the corridor and got in the turbolift with a Vulcan crewmate he didn’t know. “Deck one.” The turbolift took off and only took a few seconds to deliver Aevin to the top deck. He strode down further to the ready room and pushed the door chime. Always a mild grey area, but with a new CO, always preferable to air on the side of cautious formality.

The door slid open and a voice said “Come in, Lieutenant.” in a slightly British-accented voice.

The office was organized, but had the feel of both authority… and peace. Two bookcases on one wall stood with shelves lined with actual books behind their glass doors. Pictures had been mounted around the room showing both places and people, many of them featuring the same person. Various odds and ends graced places here and there. Displayed prominently, however, alone on a shelf high up on the wall directly behind the desk that sat opposite the door, was the lone figure of a gold Ox. Lighting had been directed so that it drew the eye of anyone who came through the door almost immediately. Directly below that hung a coat, obviously on display and not being worn. It was a ridiculous combination of black and the kind of red only seen where intimate services were bought and sold. A truly obnoxious fur collar crowned the neckline… it was truly the kind of coat that would… could… only be worn by people going by aliases like ‘Silky Smooth’, ‘Velvet Jones’, ‘Iceberg Slim’, or ‘Smooth McGovern’.

The man behind the desk was a human male in the red uniform of Command officers. He had an athletic build, even seated behind the desk. As he stood, he was slightly taller than average. His hair was jet black, making the bright sapphire-blue eyes beneath the well-groomed hair even more intense. He had a youthful appearance, with a thin mustache and goatee of the same black hair as his head. Youthful in spite of the Captain’s pips at his collar. He smiled warmly and extended a hand.

Cochrane took a seat at the desk and said “Please, help yourself to something to drink if you like, Mr. Aevin. And then you can tell me what brought you to the Manhattan.”

Aevin shook the Captain’s hand, then went and got himself some earl grey tea. “British tea. I’ve lived on earth on several occasions, and during my time in government, the ambassador for Earth got me addicted to the stuff.” He said with a light smile. Those more informed would be aware that two hosts prior an Aevin was on the federation council. He took a seat and said “In all honesty, I am here because I was ordered to be. This seems like a lovely ship that I will quite like serving on. But I received a transfer order and followed it.”

Alex nodded and then said “But what set you on the path to get that order? You have a plethora of experiences and memories… why do you do what you?”

Cochrane, CO

Aevin’s smile faded. “That’s a longer story. The prior host was also a Starfleet pilot and academy flight instructor. He made Lieutenant Commander and collected medals. Then one day, he- I, died. And was reset to the beginning of a Starfleet career. I have the asset of the skills I previously built but often people find it difficult to reconcile Experience with my apparent youth and low rank. So I’ve been shuffled around a lot. I was on the USS Genesis for a while, the USS Addison, and most recently the USS Galbraith. I thought the Galbraith was going to be a long-term situation and then a transfer it seems neither I nor the command staff of that ship had particularly seen coming arrived. The little part of me that still plays politics thinks that I’m more convenient out here. No one asks questions about how I came to be a Lieutenant Junior Grade. But maybe they just wanted a good pilot to help you navigate this quadrant.”
