Aevin was sitting in his quarters on the USS Galbraith, reading an old favorite novel. =/\=Lieutenant Aevin, please report to the Captain’s ready room.=/\= He sat up and straightened his uniform. I wonder what he could possibly want.

He stepped into the ready room and saw the Captain and XO waiting. “Lieutenant.” The CO said. “You’ve been reassigned.”
“Is that so, sir? Where to?”
“USS Manhattan. Under Captain Alexander Cochrane.” The CO handed him a PaDD with transfer orders.
“I will pack my things immediately sir.” Aevin turned to leave.
“Yes sir?”
“You’ll be missed around here.”
“Thank you sir.”

Aevin flew a shuttle to the USS Manhattan. Nice ship. He docked, and disembarked. He dropped his things in his quarters and went to the XO’s office. He pressed the door chime and waited.

-Lt(j.g.) Aevin, Helm

It wasn’t often Shedda was in her office except early or very late hours, she preferred to be out and about on the ship, but paperwork called and it had to get done. She glanced at the door at the interruption, welcoming it to the the words the stared tauntingly back at her from the computer screen. “Enter!” The door swished open for the young jr Lt. Shedda stood coming around her desk offering a lime green hand. “Lt Aevin. Welcome to the Manhattan. Have a seat.” The office really had nothing too personal in it, yet. Shedda kept meaning to, but decorating just didn’t seem important. However what was different was the lighting, it was soft but natural and reminded one of being in the sunlight. There was a chair in front of her desk or to the side two more comfortable chairs with a table between them.

Mal’athar, XO

“Thank you Commander.” He entered and shook her hand, before finding a seat. “This is a nice ship, it’s been a long time since I was last on a Manhattan class. If I remember correctly they steer just a little bit on the heavy side.” He smiled slightly at the memory. He looked to be in his late twenties, but spoke like he was much older, not even in his choice of words but in the weight of his voice. He carried hundreds of years with him, and it was present in his eyes and in his sound.

-Lt(j.g.) Aevin

Mal’athar paused on her way to sit. “Would you like something to drink, Lt?”

“Tea would be nice, thank you.”

She grinned, bright white teeth flashing behind green lips. “The first of her class. She’s impressive and state of the art from every department. We’ve very proud of her. I can’t speak to how she flies though.” Folding her hands into her lab Mal’athar leaned back slightly in her chair. “What do you think about coming to serve out here in the Delta?”

Mal’athar, XO

Aevin smiled. “It’s a new opportunity. And one I look forward to. I’m very used to certain places and figures being around by now. A change of scenery is always good.”

Mal’athar nodded, change was good, kept people from being complacent. And most joined Star Fleet to see new places, not the other way around. “You’ll see plenty out here. Being the only Star Fleet vessel out here, we get all the jobs. What are you hoping to get out of your time here, Lt.?”

Mal’athar, XO

Aevin thought for a moment. “Honestly, I don’t know. The assignment is unexpected. I hope to gain something new. The experience of a trill symbiont is unique. This is the fifth life I have lived. From each one I hope to glean something new about existence. But this is the first time I have repeated a career path. The new locale, new people… I don’t know what there is to find, but I intend to look.”

Mal’athar considered that for a moment. What would inspire, drive a person who lived several life times. She understand that the purpose of being joined with a symbiote is to provide new experiences and knowledge. “Do you feel you have nothing left to learn in your current career path? The Delta will certainly allow you to meet new people and locations. Have you considered cross training in another department, to stretch yourself a bit?” It was a simple question and not a condemnation or accusation. Shedda believed in helping the crew under her to stretch and grow to their potential and as far as they wanted. She couldn’t do that if she didn’t know what they wanted for themselves.

Mal’athar, XO

“Quite the opposite.” Aevin responded. “I’m certain there is something left or else I would’ve quit by now. I don’t know what it is I’m looking for though.” His brow furrowed. “I was trained as a pilot and engineer… I hadn’t given too much thought to training a new division. On the Manhattan, sciences are always in demand… I’ll give it some thought.”

Shedda nodded, “We do have quite a bit of sciences that could be explored if you are inclined. With your background in engineering you might want to spend some time with operations. There is quite a bit of unique technology we get to see out here. It’s not required but there is plenty to close from if you decide to pursue any interests.” There were plenty of opportunities for anyone on the crew to stand out in their career, and she and Cochrane saw eye-to-eye on encouraging everyone to do so.

“Everyone has things to offer, and you more than most with your experience. What do you bring to our crew, Lt?”

Mal’athar, XO

“Experience, flight certifications for most Starfleet craft, a sparkling personality.” The last one was a joke, but the rest was true. “I bring an annoying amount of calm to stressful situations.”
