Nicolas knew the XO was an Orion and so was able to locate her. He hoped he hadn’t caught her at an inopportune time …

“Commander Mal’athar” he asked, stumbling over the name, “I’m Nicolas Dean, Nic in emergencies or to close friends the new Chief of Security. I’ve just arrived, and here are my transfer papers.”

He held a padd towards her.

  • Nicolas Dean, COS

Shedda came to a stop and turned upon hearing someone call out to her. She did not recognize the man immediately but the color of his uniform and the pips on his collar as well as the fact she’d been reviewing his record told her this must be their new security chief. He confirmed that a moment later. She held out her hand, careful of the strength she put into the grip. Most humans forgot Orions were stronger than them, and took an overly firm grip as a challenge. The last impression she wanted to give the new security chief was one of being challenged. “Lt. Dean, welcome to the Manhattan. How was your journey out here to the Delta?”

One lime green hand reached for the PaDD and after a thorough check, she pressed her thumb to the scanner. Orders were transferred to her desk and he had one check box taken care of. Then she passed it back.

“Thank you Commander,” Nicolas replied, taking the padd from her, “the trip out was long and uneventful, I had plenty of time to catch up on my reading of sculpting and pottery techniques, oh and music from 1960’s Earth - Australia to be precise. So many criminally underrated bands from that era of Earth history - Deltones, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, The Seekers and Normie Ray and the Playboys, just to name a few.”

Nicolas paused, “oh just an obsession of mine, sorry Commander. I look forward to serving the Manhattan as COS.”

  • COS

Shedda grinned, “I think you need to talk to Mrs McKenzie, our resident diplomat. I’m sure the two of you will have a lot to discuss.” Shedda loved pottery. She never made it, but she loved the stuff. It was one of her favorite items to find on an archological dig. The shape, materials, art, glazing - it all meant something. “I would love to see some of your pieces. Pottery was one of my focuses in my archology classes. I’m not much for making it, but as works of art, it is my favorite.” She turned and began walking back down the corridor. “Tell me what are you plans as COS, Lt?”

OOC: I am sadly disappointed that there is no security suite or office listed on the ship specs.....So we shall make one up.

OOC: I felt the same way about it, and had the same thought … no one needs sickbay, do they? I think we’ll move in and take over sickbay. :D

Or given there is no CSO, Security can move in and take over Science Labs 5-7 on Deck 5. Suggest the labs be repurposed as follows:- Science Lab 5 - COS Office and Sculpting Workshop … together with kiln and Gaggle Starship Nest. Science Lab 6 can be the Main Security Suite. Science Lab 7 is the new Security training room. Oh and we can replace the research animal holding space with a brig.

IC: “I want to make sure that our security officers are not flabby on either their backsides or their brains, Commander,” Nicolas replied, after a moment’s thought “I’ll be checking that their phaser skills are up to date and discuss the Crit Team with Lieutenant Oberon. I also want to make sure my team share their knowledge of the threats, challenges and opportunities that this sector promises the Manhattan. Of course, if there are any specific areas that you and the Captain would like us to focus on, I will do that as well. And I’ll show you my work once its unpacked.”

  • Nicholas Dean, CoS

Mal’athar nodded thinking. “I’m sure Cpt Cochrane will have his own requests, but I would suggest: first contact protocols, Mrs. McKenzie always needs an Honor Guard ready to go, environmental safety and evacuation teams. We are primarily a science vessel, and speaking from experience, away teams can be hazardous, and not from other species. But from the planet itself. And negotiation and open communication is always Cpt Cochrane’s first choice. Although we’ve made friends out here, we are still out here alone.” She stepped into the turbolift, “Deck 6.”
