Aevin walked into the lounge and approached the bar. He ordered himself a drink and found a table. He stared out the window at the space passing them by. So this is the delta quadrant. Sometimes space just feels like space…but this does have a different way to it.

-Aevin

At a nearby table sat a woman with bronze hair and gold flecked brown eyes wearing an ankle length vest with the patches of the Federation Diplomatic Corp. She had a single earbud in one ear and a mini padd in her hand. Occasionally she picked up a cup of tea and sipped from it. Despite seeming to study whatever was on her PaDD she didn’t miss any greetings that were passed her way.

McKenzie

Aevin moved over to her table, hoping he wasn’t imposing. “Excuse me. If I recognize the symbols on your vest, then you’re the diplomat assigned here. Mind if I pick your brain about this place?”

-Aevin

Revna looked up with a welcoming smile. She tapped on her PaDD and removed the ear bud and placed both on the table in front of her. “I am. Revna McKenzie.” She offered her hand in a firm but friendly hand shake. “By all means, have a seat. What can I answer for you?”

McKenzie

Aevin returned the handshake and took the offered seat. “Lieutenant Aevin. I’m the new helm officer. I guess, if I’m going to be steering the ship, neighborhoods I should avoid, safe havens when things get rough?”

-Aevin

Revna paused to think about it. “Places to stay away from are the Borg transwarp conduits and Species 8472 obviously. The Kazon can be aggressive and aren’t really overly fond of us, unless we are there to trade. The Nucleogenic Cloud being isn’t really threatening but not a place we want to get stuck. The Devore Imperium is some place that unless welcomed we don’t want to cross and if should it’s not wise to run, unless we know we can get away. Others include the Hirogen and the Hierarchy. The Trabe are polite enough but aren’t really in a place to give us a safe haven. Ocampa is very welcoming as well as the Talaxians and possibly the Vidiian Sodality. Most of the species out here we just don’t know well enough to say if they are welcoming or hostile. They all have their own rules about strangers and people being in their territory.”

McKenzie

Aevin took it all in for a moment. “Good to know. Very good to know. Thank you. I’ve gotten to know the alpha quadrant pretty well, but this is a completely foreign place to me. So the help is appreciated.”

-Aevin

Renva smiled, “I’m always happy to of help. There are a lot more friendly species than that, you’ll run into them at Event Horizon, but their homes aren’t on our normal patrol route. Most species that aren’t welcoming are very territorial out here. So watch for beacons and satellite markers.” She picked up her cup and sipped at it, “You always want to fly, Lt. or was it something you found you were just good at?”

McKenzie

Aevin laughed. Somehow it had escaped him that not everyone knew the 27 year old face they saw wasn’t the totality of the person. “Both. This me, always had ambitions of the stars. That’s how the last me met the new me. Both pilots, officers. I taught myself how to fly a cutlass, if you can imagine how that does your head in. When I was younger, I wouldn’t have considered Starfleet. And who knows what I’ll do next time around?”

-Aevin

Last me and new me. Revna had known a lot of joined Trills in her time of service, but that was a new way of putting it. Revna was familiar with the Cutlass and it was no walk in the park. It had given her no amount of grief to master, but man once you did there was nothing like it. “So what changed your mind? From when you were a kid to join Star Fleet?”

McKenzie

“About… 180 years ago, give or take, when I was first bonded with a host, the galaxy was a much different place. Trill were near unknown in Starfleet. We hadn’t entered the Federation formally yet. I wasn’t sure then, if this organization we weren’t fully represented or protected by was a safe place. That and I had novels to write, which I’m fortunate are quite hard to find these days. As time drew on, the Federation proved beyond trustworthy.” Aevin paused. “The thing about long life, is that you have to change to accommodate the time you live in. If you don’t you’re a relic of some bygone era. Even if you do look surprisingly young for it.” He chuckled to himself. “If nothing else, I do go on like an old man. The world of the diplomat, and the attaché to the Delta quadrant, how does one end up there?”
