This was why she hadn’t wanted to recite the poem in front of everyone. She wanted this reaction from him where she could see it, without being overwhelmed by everyone else. Reaching a hand up, she rested a hand on his cheek, thumb caressing his jawline. “And I love you too, which is a good thing considering we’re legally bound to each other,” she said with a grin.

Dropping her hand, she laced her fingers through his and looked out over the garden she loved so dearly. “I’m scared, Dag. Not of a life together, but of leaving here, but starting over again. It really started to hit home when I was one the Dawn and yet… being there showed me how far I’ve come and that I have such an incredible future ahead of me. It’s all very bittersweet.”

Daggum gave her hand a gentle squeeze and said “Hey… I get it. This ship…” and he looked around for a moment, “… it’s special. Its been your home, and the place where you came into your own. It’s where we met…” and he grinned at her before looking back at the garden and somehow seeing past it to the ship itself, “… and it’s where your life solidified in a lot of different ways. So it makes sense that you’d be scared leaving. But… I will be right beside you. And now you have an actual family to be a part of. And that will help. And the Athena is a great ship. Maybe not as… meaningful… right now, but you never know what the future holds… wife.”

Faye smirked. “It’s going to take some getting used to in hearing you call me that. I mean I never thought I’d be anyone’s wife. But I like when you say it and I sure am glad you’re my husband. We can do anything together.” It was cheesy, definitely, but at the same time so very true. They had both survived against all odds to be in a place where they could be happy and content with another person. It was hard to deny that they were both determined to give this everything they had.

Taking slow measured breaths, her serene smile returned. “Well, shall we meander back towards our guests, or do you want to stay here a little longer, husband?”
