Finishing his meal at the crew mess, Alexander leaves the small group of Officers he was eating with and walked outside the Mess. He had an appointment with the cadet at 1400 and didn’t want to miss it. It was his first assignment where he was given the responsibility of a whole department, but he wasn’t too nervous. In fact, he was looking forward to working with his new team, both the Science one and the Senior Staff. He entered the nearest turbolift and headed for the bridge.

Stepping on the bridge, Alexander noticed the similarity the ship’s bridge had with a Galaxy-class. As he remember the lesson he had about the legendary Enterprise D, the layout was an exact copy of the Enterprise bridge, with a few differences.
While he admire the bridge, an Ensign walking passed him stopped for a second to stare at him. When the latter noticed it, the ensign breaks eye contact before returning to his occupation with an interrogative look. Alexander immediately knew that it was his golden eyes that bothered the ensign, but with the time he was getting used to their surprise.

Resuming his walk, he crossed the last distance between the turbolift and the ready room before stopping in front of it. He quickly brushed his uniform before activating the chime.

Lieutenant Alexander Carpenter - CSO

The door slid open as a voice said “Come in.”

The office was organized, but had the feel of both authority… and peace. Two bookcases on one wall stood with shelves lined with actual books behind their glass doors. Pictures had been mounted around the room showing both places and people, many of them featuring the same person. Various odds and ends graced places here and there. Displayed prominently, however, alone on a shelf high up on the wall directly behind the desk that sat opposite the door, was the lone figure of a gold Ox. Lighting had been directed so that it drew the eye of anyone who came through the door almost immediately. Directly below that hung a coat, obviously on display and not being worn. It was a ridiculous combination of black and the kind of red only seen where intimate services were bought and sold. A truly obnoxious fur collar crowned the neckline… it was truly the kind of coat that would… could… only be worn by people going by aliases like ‘Velvet Jones’, ‘Iceberg Slim’, or ‘Huggie Bears.

The figure seated behind the desk was a human male with jet-black hair. As he raised his head, icy blue eyes looked at Carpenter and a smile crossed the man’s face. “Lieutenant Carpentier.” he said, the French name rolling off his tongue with ease. “Welcome to the Manhattan. I am Captain Alexander Cochrane.” and he extended his hand.

Cochrane, CO
Alexander noticed the Captain pronounced his name correctly, and appreciated the effort. He grabbed the hand and shook it, giving the man a smile : “A pleasure to meet you Captain. If you excuse my curiosoty, are you by any chance a direct descendant of the Cochrane ?”

Lieutenant Alexander Carpenter - CSO

Cochrane smiled and indicated a chair in front of the desk. “I get that question a lot, and no… I’m not. Please, be seated.” and he took a seat himself.

Alexander seated without asking and waited for the Captain to speak.
“How was the trip through the wormhole? First time through can be very… disconcerting.”

Cochrane, CO
Alexander made a little disgusted face when thinking of the trip, discreet but still noticeable. “It was really strange to travel in another way than Warp. It had me all upside down, but I’ll spare you the details…” Really, being out of this place was a relief.

Lieutenant Alexander Carpenter - CSO

Cochrane smiled and said “Oh, I understand. My first trip through I threw up on the co-pilot. Totally disorienting. But it gets easier.” He tapped a few inputs into the desk interface, and read a few lines before saying “So tell me how you think you’re experiences as a nomad will help you lead your Department.”

Cochrane, CO
When the captain said ‘Nomad’, Alexander had a brief thought for his former companion on Diphyke. I’ve already prayed for them today. Now is not the time to mourn, he thought before focusing on the question.

The Lieutenant began : “As for my experience in the tribe, I didn’t have a leading position, although I did some expedition of my own. My life was built around teamwork in my tribe, and I am more than capable to get included in any group.”
“As for leading a department, I don’t think it would be my experience on Diphyke that I would use, but the one I developed in Starfleet. Even if I didn’t have a leading post, I had my experiences in leading a team more than once, especially away teams.”

Lieutenant Alexander Carpenter - CSO

Cochrane nodded slightly and then said “Okay, but Away Teams are temporary. Here? Here you are the Deoartment Head of not 9nly the largest depart on the ship… but the department that the vast majority of the ship is dedicated to. This is not only the largest science vessel in the Fleet, Lieutenant… it is the premier ship of its kind. I am no scientist. So I will be relying on you heavily to make sure we are utilizing this fantastic ship to her fullest capabilities. And that is in addition to you leading a department of both Star Fleet enlisted and officers as well as civilians. Civilians who, by the way, are some of the most renowned minds in their fields. Do you believe you are ready for such a challenge, Lieutenant?”

Cochrane, CO
