As the crew sorted out their away team complement, the ship slowly maneuvered its way into the atmosphere. Given that it was planned and controlled with full inertial damper assist there was a general rumbling in the ship that may cause a stem bolt to jitter along the table or one’s coffee cup to rattle, but the slow and sure descent was unimpeded and done well within safety margins.

The only noted thing that was unexpected was the passage through the shield. It hindered nothing with the ship, nor did it affect any systems, but as the descent slowly was made, it was a felt thing, where from the feet moving up to the head it was not unlike ants progressively crawling on one’s skin that was immediately replaced by the pins and needles sensation of a limb having fallen asleep. This lasted about 30 seconds before dissipating.

The city itself was laid out in a rough octagonal fashion. As the crystal spires of the buildings drew closer in the descent they were shown to be finely detailed and beautiful, reflecting the sun’s light in a myriad of patterns and colors. The squares were clean, the avenues white and unmarred, the green spaces trimmed and well kept. For a city whose population was far below what it should be, someone or something was doing a good job keeping it tidy. Beyond, outside the beauty of the city, it was almost like a wasteland by comparison.

While it was a tight fit, the Manhattan managed it. So too it was evident that many people had come out to watch this spectacle from the ground, be it singly or in tight clusters.

“All stations run full scan sweeps of the city and get all the information you can. If these people are in the trouble they say they are, then we may be documenting them for posterity. Nothing is too trivial, and we can sort it out later. XO, with me. Mr. Darach, you have the conn. You’re our ride, so don’t leave without us.” Alex said and he winked at the Ops Chief as he stood up and made his way to the turbo lift. Tapping his comm badge, he said =/\= Cochrane to Away Team. Anyone slated for the mission will meet immediately in Transporter room 2…=/\= and then he thought for a moment and said =/\= Belay that. Away Team assemble in Shuttlebay 2. =/\= Looking at the XO he said “If we end up getting separated from the Manhattan, we’ll need a way off-planet.”

Cochrane, CO

“Wouldn’t dream of it Captain.” Walker stepped from where he had been standing by the helm towards the center of the bridge. “I’ll even have them turn down your beds and put little chocolates on your pillows to be ready for when you return,” he said with a grin.

Shedda stood, They were both going? Alright then. She strode across the bridge to the turbolift. She nodded to Alex. It made sense, she didn’t like the idea of being separated from the Manhattan, but she liked the idea of being stuck on an alien planet even less. =/\=Mal’athar to Shuttle bay 1. Prep the Liberty runabout for departure.=/\=

=/\=This is Shuttle Bay 1. Acknowledged Cmdr.=/\=

Scans showed that the principle power source for the city was geothermal. There looked to be no other, however, there was some suggestion that the fabric of the buildings themselves may collect power from the sun. Light facing areas of the buildings showed a greater thermal indicator that penetrated the walls far more than would be expected. Life signs were virtually absent from the tall towers but congregating closer to the ground level. What was more there was no farming or otherwise besides an orchard area in one greenspace; sensors showed a network of hydroponics under the ground level. These were interlaced with underground terminals or subways which were themselves appearing a kind of mag or grav propulsion. None passed beyond the ‘city limits’ nor were there any life signs beyond the city limits.

A central ‘temple’ complex looked to be a nexus of the terminals. It itself was a modest building but appeared to be akin to a series of icicles but upside down. A central structure within the mass of icicles was the sole building area of it. There didn’t look to be any visible industry.

OOC: If there is any detail you want to explore further .. have at it .. Gene

Alexander followed the Captain in the turbolift : “The more we are, the better it is.” Pressing his combadge he added : =^= NE Stevens, report to the bridge at the Science Station. Carpentier out. =^=

OOc : Sorry for the absence, I wasn’t able to post in the recent week.

Lieutenant Alexander Carpenter - CSO

Once everyone was on the lift Shedda called the destination, “Deck 3.”

Mal’athar, XO

Walker took a look around the bridge after everyone had departed. Now for the hard part, waiting.

“Alright, let’s see what we can find out about this city. Science have at it, see what you can find out. Helm, how are we holding position wise? Estimate on how long you think we can maintain this position.”

CWO Darach - COO

Walker looked around at the crew left on the bridge. “Anyone?”

Sighing he brought up a readout on how much fuel they were burning holding their position above the city, time to just do the math himself.

CWO Darach - COO

Holding station thanks to the computer was the easy part. And fuel too wasn’t an issue. It was more the structural strain from thrusters and battling the power transfers to the structural integrity fields on the not so designed for hovering in the air elements of the ship’s design. Was there active weather that might be more interesting, but in this relatively stable air, Darach could suss out that they had in the vicinity of a couple of days before some areas began to strain or worse. As the time counted down they could determine the timings more accurately.

As Walker looked over the results of the analysis, at least one thing was going right for them. But engineering was definitely going to have to keep an eye on the super structure of the Manhattan, especially with all of the weird temporal events that had been happening recently.

=^=Bridge to Engineering. Keep an eye on the structure of the Manhattan. I’m not sure how long we’ll be maintaining our position over the city, and the last thing we need is the ship falling apart around us.=^=

CWO Darach - COO

Walker waited patiently on the bridge. This was the worst part of being stuck behind, the waiting. It was a matter of time before something interesting happened, but who knew when that would occur. Until then they were left, waiting.

It didn’t help that he was sure the bridge crew wouldn’t enjoy his singing.

“Bring the ship status up on the screen. Let’s keep an eye on how the ship is doing so we aren’t taken by surprise if we overstay our welcome.”

CWO Darach - COO

In a corner of the main viewscreen - taking up a third of the whole - two images of the Manhattan came up. One was overhead and the other was in profile. Over the next few minutes data began to be populated and color coded based on structural integrity, stress points, power allocations, thruster and engine ratings. Thus far all was showing green.
