Songz Quarters- Planning Reunions

Posted Oct. 31, 2022, 12:08 p.m. by Civilian Sair Songz (Counselor) (Lindsay B)

Sair had dropped Koro off at childcare for the day, knowing that not only did she have scheduled sessions but their window for talking with her father might be limited and unpredictable, depending on a few variables. She had stopped by her office to read messages and confirm her schedule, allowing her mother to rest as long as she needed, knowing Kel would call her when she was awake.

It also gave Sair time to reflect on last night. The dinner, the revelation, Alex’s offer, the black hole, her family’s name being attached to the stellar phenomenon. The truth was that after getting Koro back to sleep, Sair’s mind had been restless and she spent a log while before eventually falling asleep working through the myriad of things that she knew would need to happen. All of it falling into practical lists according to subject: Medical requirements, practical day-to-day adjustments, travel arrangements, and of course creating special moments as a family so they could cherish this precious time.

They were all distractions, this she knew. But for the time being it was all Sair could handle. Later, at some point, she’d let her emotions have more of a say, but right now she was a mother and a daughter and people needed her. She wouldn’t have to keep it all together, certainly not all the time, but for right now this was what she could manage.

Sair stepped into her mother’s quarters after getting the call, only to find her mother already talking with her father. She smiled as she drew closer, waving at the man on the screen and his perpetually kind expression, even though Sair could tell he was focused on something in his mind. Grabbing a chair, she joined her mother.

Kel turned to her daughter. “He’s in agreement,” she said softly. “So we’ll have to make sure we list everything he needs to bring. I’ll request my medical records be sent as well.”

Sair nodded. “We’ll want fresh tests and do our calculations so that you have the correct supply you need.” She focused on the screen. “And Captain Cochrane is also a musician. He’s eager for the opportunity to play with you.”

Sal grinned. “I would be honoured.

“You know that does mean you’re going to have to give a concert while you’re here, don’t you?” Said said, with a twinge of excitement.

He laughed. “I suspected that might be the case. I’ll come prepared.”

“Oh! And did Mira tell you about the black hole last night?”

Sal nodded. “Indeed she did. Something about there being a recording? If you send it over, I’ll see what inspiration it creates.” He didn’t seem at all miffed that he was so predictable to these two women.

“It’ll be nice to have everyone together,” Kel said softly, smiling at her husband who had been at her side for forty-give years.

“I do miss you both, and that grandson of mine. It shouldn’t take long to get everything together. My own matters won’t take long at all, in fact. I’ll be there as soon as the arrangements allow.” He gazed at Kel and touched two fingers to his lips.

Kel smiled and repeated the gesture. “Soon.”

They talked for a couple more minutes before signing off and the two women sat in silence for a long while. “You’re still upset with me,” Kel said knowingly, turning to gaze at Sair.

“Intellectually, I understand why you two decided as you did, but yes, I am still upset. However, it’s immaterial right now,” Sair said, meeting her mother’s gaze. “There are more important things to consider and I will get over it.” She sighed. “We should go see about meeting with Doctor Wynter. Make sure she’s on board with how we want to handle this. You still want me to be your medical proxy?”

Kel reached out and rested a hand on the side of Sair’s face. “There’s no one I trust more. You know my wishes and we’ll make aspects of them official as is done, and the rest I know you will do right by me. Your father is a smart man and I love him immensely, but I know it would be too much for him. You understand the nuances and it will matter.”

Sair nodded and laid her own hand on top of her mothers’, resting her head slightly into them. Closing her eyes, she all but sighed. “I will take care of it.”

They stayed that way for a few more moments before both got up to go attend to various matters. Later they would meet in Sickbay to discuss everything with Wynter.

For now it seemed they had a plan of action. The rest would unfold as it would.
