OOC: Below you will all find a link for what Memory Alpha has on the Ilidarians. There isn’t a lot there, but they were briefly mentioned in Voyager as having had a successful/peaceful trade mission. Since there aren’t a lot of details other than they were peaceful and open to trade, we thought it might be fun for the crew to take on the species and get to delve into them as well as explore the diplomatic side of Manhattan’s mission.

What we know so far:

The Ilidarians wanted to come on board. They had engaged in a very productive trade mission with Voyager very early on when the ship had been stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Now that the Federation had a permanent presence in the Delta Quadrant the Ilidarians had reached out to the Federation. They were interested in another trade exchange, as they put it. However they didn’t venture out much past their neighboring systems.

When information on their customs and culture and food so that they could be prepared to greet them properly was requested, the Ilidarians balked refusing to provide such information except for the proper honorary titles. They insisted that because the Voyager delegation had conformed to their customs so willingly they wished to do the same. Conforming to Federation customs, foods, and everything else. Revna did get them to agree to send along any dietary restrictions that might create a medical issue.

There is a list of 20 different member worlds that they wanted to try food from. Some listed specific dishes they had read about and others were blank. There was a list of typical Illdarian dishes that contained detailed descriptions of type of food (fruit, protein, etc), how it was prepared, texture, flavor (which Revna wasn’t sure if the descriptions of the flavor and spices really translated enough to help). There was a personal note in bold Revna had added for herself that the Illdarians were adamant that they did not want to eat any of their own food for the 10 days they would be on board.

They have two legs and two arms. Extremely long fingers by our standards. They are unaware of what a food allergy is and were quite perplexed when asked about it. When asked and they thought I meant that the person simply didn’t like the food. It took an hour to explain it’s a medical issue where a component of the food makes the person ill. They have never heard of such a thing. They do have two doctors in their delegation that will be monitoring everyone.

Two weeks had flown by and the Ilidarian delegation was making their way over to the Manhattan by shuttle. Transporters were an untested technology and they preferred to arrive as they were rather than torn apart and shunted across the vacuum of space. The senior staff was summoned to the Shuttlebay to greet their guests. Revna turned to Cochrane and Mal’athar. “High Magister Asidora sent me a message as the shuttle left the ship. She’s rather giddy with excitement.”

McKenzie, DA

Cochrane, standing tall and proper in his dress uniform, said “Well that makes one of us.” and he smiled. “I just hate wearing this thing.” and he chuckled.

Cochrane, CO

Sair stepped into the shuttle bay in Kobliad formal wear meant for daytime events, which wasn’t all to different than what she had worn to her and her mother’s dinner with Cochrane. Wide legged pants in a crisp cobalt coloured material were paired with a fitted cobalt tunic. The hem edges were embroidered with gold thread in thin zigzag pattern and she wore plain flat shoes. “Anything I should know before they arrive?” she asked as she approached. She was representing her people in this and would hopefully make a good impression.

Shedda was a step behind Sair in arriving, her dress uniform immaculate, shoes shinned and her hair pinned back. “I share your sentiments Captain. I don’t think k anyone likes the dress uniform.” She glanced at McKenzie, “Didn’t you say that instead of hand shakes they hug. Like large encompassing bear hugs?” Their fingers were longer than humans and appeared delicate to Shedda. She would have to be careful of her grip.

Revna nodded, “Yes. Even to complete strangers. For them it marks feelings of non-aggression and the desire to form friendships. To not hug is a clear sign of animosity and aggression.”

Shedda nodded, “Prepare to have your personal space invaded, everyone.”

Mal’athar, XO

“Fantastic,” Sair said dryly, clearly unimpressed. Kobliads were rather persnickety about invading another’s personal space and touch was generally the realm of friends and family, not strangers. But she would be diplomatic and try not to flinch too much.
