Kaia scratched behind her ear briefly as she stepped into sickbay. She walked slowly and looked around, seeking out the sight of a medic.

Kaia, Engineer

“Hello, can I help you,” Dr Wynters walked up to the engineering officer that entered the sick bay.

Dr. Wynters CMO

“Hello, Dr. Wynter,” Kaia said as she looked up at the human woman. Her tail wrapped around her leg, gripping it in the same way someone might grip their arm with a hand. “I’m here for my mandatory onboarding physical.”

Ensign Kaia, Engineer

“Perfect,” Jasmine said with a smile as she turned around and grabbed a PaDD. “Bed three is open.” Jasmine’s face faltered for a second and then the smile returned. “You’re back Ensign Kaia from like four years ago. You served and then took a transfer. How are you?” It only took a second for Jasmine to click the name with the face of the officer before her. Moving toward the bed, Jasmine waited for the Ensign to take a seat.

“I wasn’t actually transferred,” Kaia explained, a little sheepish as she stepped over to the bed and looked up with a look of consideration on her face. She may be tall for her species, but she was still only three and a half feet tall. After a moment, she crouched down and used her powerful legs to launch herself up, jumping like a cat from floor to bed. Once she was settled, she continued speaking. “I took a mental health break. My species doesn’t function well in isolation from one another, so Medical Health mandated I take a year off to spend some time with my family. As soon as I was allowed, I came back,” she explained.

Ens. Kaia, Engineer

“Spending a year with my family would give Max and me mental health problems. Namely a nervous breakdown. Our families can be a bit much,” she let out a small chuckle, “but that is the role of parents and siblings. They are the ones that know you the best so they push you to strive for your potential but also know exactly what button to push to piss you off.” Pulling out the tricorder, Jasmine scanned her as they chatted.

“Is your family big?”

Jasmine Wynter CMO

“Its just my parents and four siblings. About average for my species, given how few of us decide to have children,” Kaia replied. Physically, Kaia was quite healthy, even including the fact that her right arm was half artificial (medical records showed that her arm had always been like that). “It was really nice to see them, but I did miss my ‘family’ on the Manhattan,” she added, letting out a slight purr.

Kaia, Engineer

“Well, we are glad to have you back.” Looking at the results from the tricorder, Jasmine made a few notes about her general health and put the PaDD down. “So you appear to be no worse for the wear,” she smiled warmly. “How it the arm? Still working fine. No issues?”

Jasmine Wynter CMO

“Yess’m, its been behaving wonderfully,” Kaia nodded, making a fist, then letting her fingers relax. “I’ve been making improvements too,” she added with a conspiratorial wink.

Ens. Kaia

“Like what. Show me,” Jasmine said genuinely interested. She knew what the basic specs were but people always wanted to improve things. With Kaia being an engineer, she could only imagine how much it improved her robotic arm.
