Shedda smiled, “Of course,” and nodded toward the door, “Enjoy and if you want a day, just let me know.” Shedda moved off down the corridor her pace bringing her up even with Cochrane. “Cpt I feel like the last two weeks the only time we pass is when new people arrive on board.”Mal’athar, XO
Cochrane laughed and said “I agree. I know this ship is big, but you would think the two senior officers would have had a moment to talk.” He stepped into the Turbo lift and said “I have some time now? My office for coffee?”
Cochrane, CO
“We may have to go back to working meals again.” Shedda stepped into the lift, “Bridge.” Brilkiant white teeth flashed as she grinned, “As long as it’s replicated coffee and not that stuff Harv tries to force me to drink.” At this point it was mutual stubbornness. She wasn’t drinking it and he wasn’t letting her have anything else.

“That ‘stuff’ is the best damn coffee in this quadrant. Don’t you dare snub your nose at it.” Alex said with a grin. The doors opened and he stepped out and walked into the Ready Room after checking on the bridge crew. He replicated a pot of coffee and two cups and set them on the desk. Taking a seat he picked up a cup and said “So. Anything on your mind that you want to discuss?”
Cochrane, CO
Shedda took the other cup and sat back. “Nothing in particular. More of a check in. We’ve had a lot of crew change lately, but most everyone seems to be settling in. I’m going to have to start chasing people for their required boarding checks soon though.”
Mal’athar, XO
“Do that. I’m tired of trying to pass off the delay as a quirk of inter-quadrant communications.” and he chuckled. “How about you, Shedda? How are you liking being here? Have you found your groove yet?”
Cochrane, CO
Shedda chuckled. “I will start on that first thing tomorrow.” It would be a task, but having the XO track you down for standard evals should get the point across. “I think I have, professionally anyway. Truthfully, some days I feel like I am behind or forgetting something, but I am enjoying it. I like the challenge. I haven’t gotten to peek at the labs nearly as much as I would like, but I expected that.”
Mal’athar, XO
“Make the time. Get to know the crew and the ship on a personal level. It will help you, and them, more than almost anything else.” He took a drink and then said “I get the feeling of being behind or missing something, though. And it seems to be becoming more and more constant… and I don’t like it.”
Cochrane, CO
“I have been, and I have really enjoyed it. I’ve gone to several social events, but I’ve also made it a point to be in the lounge or garden or other areas. Of course if I eat there I either get a half hour rant or 2 days of the cold shoulder from Harv.” Shedda rolled her eyes, but she was laughing. Then she shrugged, “I was waiting on some news before I settled into an actual routine. Now that it’s come, I can solidify my routine and tasks, just a little bit.”
Alex laughed and said “Harv is very proud of what he does, that is for certain.”
She drank from her mug, “I can’t put my finger on what it is or where it is I feel I’m missing something, but it’s there and nagging. It’s irritating it’s so illusive.”
Mal’athar, XO
Alex nodded and then looked at her for a moment. “This ‘news’… care to share what it was? Or since its settled, are you just going to move ahead?”
Cochrane, CO
Shedda frowned. Not her ‘this is a puzzle I haven’t figured out yet’ frown, but a genuinely sad frown. “My adoption for Maava was denied.” She hadn’t spoken with Alex about Maava but she had submitted all the required paperwork to have a child brought on board, and approved. It had been required paperwork for the courts. “Her biological father found her and took her back to Orion.” There was no sense of loss for Shedda when speaking of Orion. She had been born there but her father had taken her away weeks after she had been born. Maava’s loss a pill Shedda was having a hard time swallowing, and the idea of what her life would now be like gnawed at her gut.
