He laughed and picked up a fork. “I honestly don’t think I could make it that long without trying this. But I’ll eat fast.” and he smiled and winked and took a bite.

She laughed and picked up another bite of her own. “See… I get you to eat.” She smiled and leaned back in her seat slightly. “I’m gonna have to be sure you don’t skip dinners anymore. You realize that. I hope you don’t get sick of me after a week.”

He chewed and swallowed, then picked up a piece of garlic bread. “Well I suppose that depends heavily on the menu selections, doesn’t it?” and he smiled as he took a bite.

She laughed and nodded. “So perhaps, rather than hacking your replicator to find out what you order the most, because something tells me it’s not a clear cut list,” she laughed again. “How about I simply ask you what you like to eat?”

He finished a bite and thought a moment. “My stables are just sandwiches. But I am not averse to a good salad. My family tends towards vegetarian dishes since my father married my step-mother and her cultured vegetarian leanings. But I can certainly enjoy a steak every now and then. But my all-time favorite? Sushi. I could live on that only and be happy. What about you? What are your preferences?”

Cochrane, CO

She laughed. “Meat and potatoes girl, I confess. Though I have a weakness for pasta. I enjoy salads as well and haven’t had sushi in years, to be honest. Guess it never crosses my mind to eat it in space.” She smiled and nodded to the lasagna. “I hope it’s good enough. Maybe next time I’ll get a nice eggplant Parmesan. How’s that?”

She took a sip of her drink and started to use her bread to soak up and eat some of the sauce on the edges.

“Mr. Harv makes an amazing vegetable risotto. Maybe you should get in his good graces and ask him to make a batch. Trust me… well worth whatever you bribe him with.” and he laughed and took another bite of the lasagna. “And it’s good. Or I am more hungry than I thought.”

She laughed. “I’m a bit selfish. I’m going to say it is because it tastes good. And I’ll keep that in mind. It sounds amazing.” After a couple bites she looked at him. “So, in the 5 minutes a week that you lack anything professional to do,” she teased him with a smile, “what do you like to do? Am I sitting before a closet violin virtuoso, or perhaps a Vulcan poetry aficionado?” She smiled and wriggled her eyebrows teasing him.

He stopped with a bite half-way to his mouth and grinned. “Why, yes… yiu could say I am an aficionado of Vulcan writing. It helps… considering who my mother is.” and he set his fork down, still smiling. “I have to ask… did you mean that as a joke? Or did you miss a certain segment of my file that I am sure you have read.”

Cochrane, CO

“Actually, I was serious, to an extent. I was aware of your mother. But children from mixed families seem to usually go one way or the other. And while I knew nothing of what Vulcan culture you embraced, if you did embrace anything, it might be the poetry. Especially with the influence being your mother. Had it been your father, it probably wouldn’t have crossed my mind. Many think them cold but they are some of the most in depth souls I have ever met. And with you being to dedicated and stoic, I took a chance you inherited more from your mother than merely your work ethics.” She glanced at him and held up her glass smiling.

“And I happen to like Vulcan poetry. I am by no means a professional at it. But I often find myself stirred by their words.” She watched him wondering if that was the answer he had been expecting.
