Raye smiled. “We are not a small crew ship, merely a small contingency who came down to speak with you. And we came to learn more about your planet and society. While the embassy was a nice side per chance, our main mission on most ships is to get to know new civilizations out beyond our own galaxy.” The subject of technology was a touchy one in this case because while the people she was dealing with were far more advanced in most areas, they had chosen to live a more simple, and she observed, happier life. It briefly crossed her mind that perhaps humans on Earth may have been more content and less violent had they made a similar choice. But the other half of her mind told her she wouldn’t get to do the things she did and meet the people she did had they chosen that calmer, quieter life.

(My mistake on the technology part… have rewritten the response, slightly, to reflect what SHE would have known, but apparently I had forgotten… Meli)

First Minister found his voice at last, or at least got it in before Acosta replied. “Ours must seem an odd society to you all. To have the stars and then choose to sit tight in our system. You’re not the first who have said that about us and likely won’t be the last. I’m sure there will be many things that we will find to our mutual benefit when we get to know each other better.” He paused. “Space did not suit us. It is not that we don’t look out and see the stars and wonder. We found ourselves .. off balance as a people. Pushing ahead so fast that we simply didn’t stop to think if we should do something just because we could. Thankfully reason did win out. But all things take time to find the balance and fit the needs. How did you do that?”
- Biehl

Raye thought for a moment. “I think mankind, at least Earth’s mankind. Never found peace on this level that you have achieved. We have a history so rifled with strife and war and inability to provide, that I cannot think of a moment in Earth’s history where the entire planet was at peace, all at the same time, anyway. So it was that desire to be someplace else, anyplace else, that lead us to reach up. But unlike you who felt more at peace and centered with your feet on soil, we found our wings.” She sighed and shook her head. “Seeing all that you have accomplished here, I cannot help but envy you on some small level. That this kind of pleasure and peace would have been sufficient. The people who wouldn’t have died. The ones I wouldn’t have lost to war and strife. I am sure you had such things in your past. Most techonoligical advances come from such negative needs. I am just happy you were able to work past them.” She shook the flashback off and smiled brightly once more. “But then I remember, if it wasn’t for all Earth had gone thru, I would not be here now to envy you. And that trumps the feelings of loss by a hundred fold.”

Biehl sat slowly and listened. “There are three principle people groups on Graven and each are like water and stone to the other in the way that they think. It breaks down to both a pervading cultural sense and demographics. We rarely see the same thing in situations. We have peace here, yes, but not without problems. Everywhere there are challenges for this or that crisis. You can’t have a world without some. There are some who are as envious of you who see the stars and want to see what is out there.” He folded one hand on another flat on the tabletop. “With each crisis comes a need and with the need the necessity to find the solution. Sometimes it is through social change. Other times it is through the need of survival. For instance, to continue on this one world we found a need to conserve our resources. How do you do that and not exhaust them while retaining a level of society like this that is, by association, a resource hog? We had to work that out quickly and still are. Renewable resources and technology. Miniaturization and the ability to recycle. Creating things that last while still allowing for upgrading. All challenges that are all ongoing.”
- Biehl

Raye smiled and the admiration on her face was transparent. “I applaud your success here. Even with so much diversity and adversity. Sadly, Earth wasn’t able to do that.” She nodded at his explanation. “I’ve heard you mention miniaturization several times. Now do you simply create items then shrink them for ease of manufacturing? Or do you shrink other things like food stores and such to make storage easier?” She had so many questions on that subject but knew she wasn’t here just to satisfy her personal curiosity. The idea of miniaturizing sounded like something the Federation could benefit from as well. Storage on ships and stations being so limited.

Biehl smiled and looked over toward Leema. She replied to that. “Ambassador Raye, that is what you might call the Gravenian method of cheating. It isn’t that we shrink things as much as,” her brow furrowed as she thought of the wording. “We have locked ourselves voluntarily into a system of technology and culture that we believe to be optimal for our well being as a people. However, we still have the inclination to improve ourselves. So without making the leap to new forms of technology that may push us out of this ‘cultural window’, we seek to improve on what we have now. That has typically manifested itself in rendering what we have, improving it, placing it within the same systems albeit generally smaller and more efficient.”
- Leema Dane

“I can applaud a simpler existing and finding ways to maintain it myself, but everything does have a limit,” Ardashir said with wonder in his heart of how far this could really go. What limit would be pushed?

Creed, XO

Raye smiled and nodded in acknowledgement. “Like we did with out communication devices. We made them smaller, made them communicate further, yet the basics didn’t change. I applaud that. I am always curious what we, ourselves, will come up with next. Especially as exploration takes us further from home for longer times. Size becomes an issue with many things. And often our engineers are saying things like You know… if this was in half the space it was, we could do such and such much better with this other piece of gear.” She laughed. “I can imagine our own engineers enjoying themselves with your amazing accomplishments in that arena.”

She glanced over at the door where their security escort had gone. She wasn’t so much worried about herself and the XO, she had faith they could handle themselves in a pinch. She was worried what had pulled him away to begin with.

OOC: Sorry for not posting.. work has been a nightmare and to be honest I was kind of having a hard time trying to follow what our overlord has planned (not really sure how to reply if I’m being honest .. kind of hate admitting that, but I just keep drawing a blank on how I would reply.. I’ll try to back fill the info if you could reach out to me Wookie x_x but for now I’ll just work with ‘having’ the convo and then I headed back into the room.

The XO’s comm badge chirped up then. =^=Commander Creed, Lieutenant Oberon, Security detail. I’m beaming to your location.=^= The woman’s voice was pleasant and professional.

A moment later, the Lieutenant appeared on the far side of the room in a familiar swirl of lights. Taking in the surroundings, she moved towards the small grouping. “Sir,” she nodded to the XO, “my apologies.” She then gave a half bow to the strangers, and a polite nod to Raye. “The Captain ask that I join you. I am Lieutenant Pretha Oberon. And I will try and remain out of your way to the best of my abilities. Again, forgive me.” She stood there a moment to see if the XO had anything for her before she joined the other security guard.

Raye glanced to the woman as she approached, a half smile on her face. “Lieutenant Oberon, thank you for joining us.” She glanced to the XO with a short nod of approval. The decision was his, of course, if the woman stayed. But it eased Raye’s mind that there was more than a single Ensign to look after the Commander. It didn’t occur to her she was the other one the woman was keeping a particular eye on.

Tyv entered back into the room shortly after the Lieutenant had arrived and tilted his head curious about the new face, but recognized the rank almost immediately. He nodded in greeting as his antennae instinctively pointed her way to understand ‘who’ she was in essence with his senses. “Welcome Lieutenant.” He was short and curious with his inflection, but it could be easily seen that he took his duty seriously and remained somewhat cautious to the new presence that had never seen before.

Pretha glanced at the other security guard as he returned to the room. She nodded, glad she didn’t have to chase him down. “You must be Ch’qirross. Pretha Oberon, new Security Officer. The Captain sent me down to give you a hand.” She stepped back a bit to give those who had been talking, more privacy.

Once they had moved across the room to where they could whisper and not be heard, she nodded once more to him. “The Captain wanted you to have someone else down here to help with them,” she nodded to the Diplomat and XO, “in case anything happened. So, I just got here today.” Pretha laughed softly, “What can you tell me about what is going on here? I understand it’s a First Contact with a bit of a snag?” She smiled and kept half an eye on the others as they spoke.

Tyv followed silently , but still kept watch over everyone. “Ah, understood. I am Ensign Ch’qirross, it’s good to have you down here. I was proud to be guarding the XO and dignitaries though, I’d have admin it is a a lot to do by one’s self.” He swiveled his antennae around for a quick moment to ensure their surroundings before just talking low enough to make sure his voice didn’t carry to any unneeded ears, which wasn’t by too much. “To be honest Lieutenant, your guess is just about as good as mine. I’ve primarily just been focused on guarding everyone here, but from the few bits that I’ve overheard, it seems that there’s been some sort of incident involving both parties. It seemed to involve a senior official and some of our crew. Anything past that, I’m not too certain.. I apologize if I can’t be of much more assistance at the moment ..
