Max watched in puzzlement for a moment as she wore the strange things on her face, arms crossed as he observed what she was doing. “What on Earth are those?” He asked her, but he made no move to stop or hinder what she was doing.

Kiama would notice with her better vision that the runes seemed to have conduits within the etching, almost as if they were miniature power relays like the Manhattan had for Plasma transfer to different area’s of the ship. They were of course inactive, the sensors had picked up no indication of energy running through them.

Without looking at Max, Kiama said matter-of-factly, “Adjustable Magnifying glasses.” As if it was the most normal thing in the world. “And this is most fascinating, indeed,” she exclaimed softly. “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Handing the box and her glasses to Max she asked, “Have a look at the runes. What do you make of it?”

It took Max a minute to figure out how to put the glasses on and adjust them, and to discover that looking at Kiama only served to make it seem like he was looking at a messy blur of, something, in her direction. What it was he couldn’t tell.

Once he had the box in hand and figured out how to look at it, he whistled softly. “Micro-relays, they must have designed this with nano-tech in mind,” he said softly and stopped himself from looking up again. Examining as much as he could, finally he stood straight and took the glasses off. “I can’t see any way to activate or charge the relays, there must be more under the rest of the corrosion.”

“Well, there is still quite a lot of the box left that is covered in corrosion,” Kiama replied with a soft laugh. “For now we definitely have our work cut out for us.”

Picking up the tool he had been using earlier, he adjusted the setting slightly higher once again. “Lets clear more off, and see if anything else appears.”

Kiama picked up her own tool and after adjusting the setting as well, continued working on her side of the box. Once that side seemed to be fully cleared of corrosion, she adjusted her position slightly to tackle the other side. While working, she mused, “I wonder what the micro-relays are for and what we’ll find one we are able to activate them and or open the box. It’s such an intriguing mystery.”
