Kiama gave Shon an apologetic look. She knew he was right, yet she was pretty certain that she wasn’t in mortal danger. So why worry anyone else?

There was a momentary pause as the Faye outside the holodeck took in the information. “I noticed the anomaly readings as well. Kind of interesting that it’s generating random objects. Can you use that to your advantage?” Faye asked. “I ask, because I’m currently working on bypassing some of the holodeck’s programming, and I want to know what the limits are,” she added as scrolled through the mess of code that now was the current program.

“We have been able to use a few of them to our advantage. We have a lot of pillows that have been somewhat helpful to protect us from flying and falling objects. As has the small shelter we’re currently sitting in. I also used a garbage can lid to ward off a swarm of flying needles that had appeared when I was searing for something fine and made of metal to manipulate the combadge.” Kiama paused for a brief moment, before mentioning the theory she had formed. “As the needles showed up when I needed something like a needle, I have been wondering if I or both of us, can influence what’s happening in here with our thoughts. We gave that hypothesis a try and concentrated on most needles disappearing and they did. Both things may be completely coincidental and so far I’ve been hesitant to give it another try.” Turning her head slightly, Kiama looked at Shon again and wondered if he wanted to add anything to her report.

Kiama would probably be able to sense the pang of doubt that crossed his mind. He was not quite convinced of the accuracy of that hypothesis. “Unfortunately, no matter how hard we thought about finding the control panel, that wouldn’t appear,” Shon said bitterly. He paused. “As far as limitations, the holodeck hasn’t materialized any complex characters. It created this image of a little girl a while ago, but she didn’t seem to have any personality or thoughts. So maybe its not able to generate random people? Mimicking sentient beings might be too complicated for it at the moment?” He bit his lip, unsure.

Knelt at the outside junction, Faye was accumulating parts around her (in a neat tidy pile, of course) as she worked quickly. She spoke while her holographic avatar inside continued to communicate her words. “Okay, so nothing so overt. Gotcha. If I were to take a more overt action, do you think you could find some sort of shelter within the program? I can’t actually see inside just yet, so I don’t know what you’re working with.” If the safeties were down, she needed to proceed with extreme caution.

“I think the little shelter we’re sitting in right now is our best hope. It’s one of those small, three-sided ones where the roof tilts slightly making the front slightly higher than the back,” Kiama replied. “It’s not great, but …” Her voice trailed off for moment and a soft sigh escaped her lips. “There were shops and whatnot earlier, but when we sought shelter in the ice cream parlour it got literally flooded with ice cream” As she spoke, she looked towards Shon for a moment, but soon looked at her lap instead. Now that help was near, her adrenaline levels were dropping and she became much more aware of the pain she was feeling in various body parts. Not to mention that she started feeling a little dizzy again. But as there was nothing he could do about it just now, she tried her best to hide it from him.

Kiama didn’t need to tell Shon anything for him to intrinsically know and be relieved at the possibly that his friend would soon be getting proper medical help. They were lucky that they hadn’t sustained further injuries after the initial crashes, other than Kiama’s unpleasant encounter with the needle cloud. But still, Shon knew that the injuries Kiama did have were nothing to scoff at and undoubtedly painful. “Please hurry,” was all Shon could say into the communicator, urgency filling his tone.

Faye was continuing to work and at least trying to establish a visual inside. The hologram continued to speak for her. “Okay, just trying to see if I can get a visual. Almost there, I think. But on a scale of one to ten, how bad are your injuries, Lieutenant?” Faye said as she continued to work.

OOC: Let me know if she’s successful in establishing a visual or not. :)

Kiama’s first instinct was to continue playing her injuries down; not that that had actually worked so far. Looking from Faye’s hologram to Shon and back at “Faye” again, she said, “I’d say a 6 or 7. I don’t think they are life-threatening, but I did hit my head rather hard.” While she talked, Faye’s attempts to establish a visual link succeeded. She would see the inside of the little shack, Shon in his somewhat torn and ripped of clothes and Kiama with a make-shift bandages around her head and left wrist and her left arm in a make-shift sling. From the looks of it, Shon had sacrificed part of his clothes to patch her up. There were also pillows, feathers, what looked like multi coloured snow and other rather random things for her to see.

“Hey… there we are… and…” Faye paused as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing. “Wow, interesting digs. And I’ve got a visual. Which is good. It means if we go slow, I can alter the program one bit at a time. The problem is that of course it’s going to take time. I think the better way to go, rather than trying to shut down the problem, would be to have the problem allow you an emergency beam out to sickbay. The emergency systems rate higher in the computer’s priority scheme. So when we call for an emergency beam out, it will prioritize the resources necessary to make that happen. But it seems we’re going to have to trick the system to allow it.”

Shon’s indigo eyes widened. His first reaction was to mentally kick himself for not having considered that option himself. But his second thought was that he hadn’t considered it a viable option out of hand because essentially it meant purposefully putting themselves in mortal danger.

In the distance, there was a rumble. Looking in that direction, at first there appeared to be a huge, dark cloud on the horizon. But upon closer inspection, the computer had generated a volcano, suspended upside down a couple miles in the air. Smoke was falling out of the opening and then billow back up the sides. Another rumble proceeded a spout of lava that fell in a straight line down to the earth, effectively creating a laser of lava headed their way.

“Well,” Shon said with a gulp, “trying to die so that we can live seems more reasonable than trying to live just to end up dying. What’s the best form of danger that we need to put ourselves in to trigger the emergency systems? We tried beaming out earlier and got no response, so if we’re going to bet on the emergency systems working, we need to find something that we’re sure will work.” He stared again at the appraoching ‘storm’. “And quickly.”
