Cochrane reviewed the scene and gritted his teeth. Tapping his badge, he said =^= Cochrane to Transporter room. We need Lieutenant Wynter here now. Transport her and the Gravian doctor aboard directly to Sickbay. Compensate for… whatever… the issue may be as best you can, but get them here now. =^=

Cochrane, CO

Rollo continued her position near the Minister. She was not medical personnel so she kept herself out of their way, but near enough to the goings on to lend a hand if needed. Cochrane seemed to be doing a fine job of coordinating and reassuring without her, so Zef held her tongue.

—Rollo, CNS (just trying to get back into this thread)

OOC: I actually thought you had all left except for Kaia and me, but I must have been skimming too quick to catch up lol.

-Dave

It didn’t take long before the shapes of Wynter and Hone formed nearby in Sickbay. Apart from a small burst of energy in the transporter pattern it looked to be normal, and Wynter would not feel any ill effects from it. Hone looked about him, his crumpled pork pie like hat shifting like a crow had sat on his head. “Remarkable.” Then, “We haven’t much time. Where is Aeric Tov?”

Maree, who had been nervous to this point, but quiet, looked at Hone. “Hone! You must help him!” Then she collapsed to her knees, shaking.
Wookiee

Rollo, who had been standing near, caught the Minister on the way down, providing her with a soft landing instead of one that would jar her teeth. “Everything is in order now, Minister. I’m sure you can relax a little while Mr Hone takes over.”

—Rollo, CNS

Maree gripped Rollo’s arm with a vice like hand. It was more the feel of one desperate than anything superhuman. “If Tov needs blood I am here. Compatibilities is within our Immediate clan structure than any kind of typing.” She glanced worriedly at Tov. “He is young. This .. transport would be difficult on him.”
Maree

Zef thought she might actually bruise from the grip the Minister had on her, but ignored the discomfort. “Yes, Ma’am—you are a candidate for a blood transfusion should he need one.” But then, she focused on the information Maree had just let out. “Minister, WHY would the transport be hard for Tov? What effects might it have on him? It’s important for us to know that.”

—Rollo, CNS

“Sit rep,” Jasmine said instantly moving to the biobeds. Her eyes drift across the bay spotting Kai, Max, and Tov. After years of treating individuals, Jasmine had storage down to an art The only hard part was disconnecting her martial feelings from her professional ones. At least seeing Max laying on the bed, appearing conscious and without tubes or apparatus attached to him was a good sign. As her eyes met Max’s, Jasmine felt a wave of relief surge through her body. Kaia appeared to have the same superficial injuries as Max only she was nursing a probable broken arm instead of a nasty bump on his head. As much as Jasmine wanted to check on Max, a fleeting smile and a brief nod was all she could administer now.

“What happened to Mr. Tov and what have we done to treat him,” Jasmine grabbed the PaDD off the table glancing at the notes but waiting for one of the nurses or other doctors to fill her and Hone in on Tov.

Gravenite anatomy and physiology was turning out to be more challenging. The mysteries of Ka Verde’s patients were not far from her mind of possible infectious contagion or something less understandable.

Hone made a beeline for the bed and looked Tov over. His fleshy eyes and face were worried. Taking from his case something that looked like a magnifying glass he passed it over his head, chest and abdomen, then turned up the glass portion to look at it. By all appearances it was a form of scanner. “Not good,” he said quietly with a frown as he glanced at Maree. “We need to operate. Fast.” He looked about at the evident doctors around him. “How do you do that here? Quickly!”
Hone

Jasmine tapped a panel and a shimmering veil materialized instantly and disappeared just as fast. “Each bed can be turned into a surgical suite. We use force fields to sterile the interior and the field keeps the area sterilized as one passes through it,” she explained moving next to Hone.

At that auspicious moment, the sickbay doors parted and a tall Vulcan the word ‘lean’ could have been devised to describe slid forth, protruding chin first. A hint of grey in her dark hair and the gentle creases on her brow betrayed her years. She had lagged behind Lieutenant Oberon, picking the brains of the shuttle pilot that delivered them on technical details of the ship. Surprised to find Oberon still hovering near the entrance, she gave her a polite nod before looking past her. Scanning the room, she laid eyes on a plethora of unfamiliar faces and one that was very familiar indeed. The captain’s image was well known to her from her prior, probably overly thorough research. Observing the apparent active medical situation, she elected to announce herself without delay. She attempted to straighten up even further, only to find it physically impossible, then broadcast flatly: “Lieutenant Che’lak reporting for duty. How may I be of assistance?”

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

“Welcome to Sick bay lieutenant,” she greeted the newest member of her staff. “Follow up on the chief and then make sure Kaia’s arm is set,” Jasmine said before pulling her attention away from Tov and Hone for the briefest second. Moving over to Che’lak, Jasmine tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and lowered her voice.

Che’lak’s gaze fixed on Wynter as she was addressed. “Thank you ma’am. Aye.” She quickly glanced again around the room, noting the patients the CMO had referenced. As she began to turn in search of a tricorder, however, her attention rapidly rebounded as Wynter continued.

“There maybe a security issue. Tell the Captain to bring his new CRIT officer up here. We may have a situation and with the sec chief dirtside its better to be safe than sorry,” she said quietly before moving back to help Hone with Tov.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

The physiologist nodded quickly in acknowledgment, wishing to allow her new department head to get back to her own work. Nonetheless, she took a moment to observe the woman as she strode away, an eyebrow firmly raised. Being a messenger for ship’s security wasn’t how she hoped to spend her time on this ship but she couldn’t pretend she didn’t know what she had been getting herself into by entering service in the field.

She began sidling towards the captain, only to stop herself when she made the connection to Lieutenant Oberon. She snapped around, hoping she would find the CRIT officer still standing behind her.

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

OOC: What does CRIT stand for, btw? :D

=^= Walker to sickbay. Did everyone make it in one piece?=^=

WO Darach - COO

OOC: Ignore CRIT for now, but it stands for Containment Response Intervention Tactics. That’s a designation for later.

IC: Cochrane tapped his badge. =^= All arrived safely, Mr. Darach. Well done. =^= and he then looked at Che’lak. “Lieutenant. A word, please.” and he drew her aside to speak privately.

“You are a Physiologist, correct?” he asked in more of a confirmation than inquiry manner.

“Ah, a non-native physiology specialist, to be precise”, Che’lak retorted in a corrective tone.

“Belay Dr. Wynter’s order and assist her as best you can. In the process, I want you to keep something in mind as you treat the Gravian.

At that, the Vulcan’s face lit up. At least, it did so as much as you could expect from her species, with her focus intensifying into visibly deep appreciation for what she was hearing. Stealing a quick keek at the figures not in Starfleet uniform, she was satisfied to see that her skills would be put to immediate use. This is what she had decided to leave her position at Starfleet Medical in favour of in the first place after all.

When we transported off the surface, there was a… well… hitch in the arrival. It felt odd… delayed in some way. Transporter officer confirmed that during transport a spike in mass occurred within the Gravians, but then dissipated. That, coupled with what Dr. Wynter just said about her concerns, lead me to think we are missing a key component to Gravian physiology… your specialty. Find that missing component. It may be the best chance we have for a positive resolution. Oh… and welcome aboard the Manhattan.”

Cochrane, CO

Jasmine overheard Cochrane belay her command but didn’t respond. Her information about a possible second entity residing in the Gravenite was a theory at best. Shon was dealing with sending the information to security so the Captain would find out about it soon enough. At least with the forcefield if something tried to pass through it the screen would register it hopefully. If not then the theory she can Baht were exploring was a dead-end anyway.

The doctor was clearly appreciative of her new assignment. “Thank you captain. A most intriguing conundrum. It is fortunate that I arrived when I did.” As she spoke, she scanned the set of medical tricorders on the bench beside them and picked out her preference. “I shall find you some answers post-haste.” With that, she glided to the corner of the sickbay housing the Gravian patients. Prior to arrival, she was aware that the Manhattan was orbiting a planet home to an unfamiliar species. Little had she anticipated having the chance to examine one up close in sickbay. It was an opportunity she intended to relish. Deciding that the patients’ injuries were of lesser importance than her study, the captain had just confirmed as much after all, she approached the Gravian who seemed neither occupied or seriously injured, Maree, and addressed her. “Excuse me, would you please accompany me to a bio-bed over here.” She gestured to a bed just clear of the area that could face immediate active medical procedures. “Examination of your species’ physiological traits may allow our medical staff to provide better guided treatment to your companions.” Her words were still plain in tone but she made an effort to place emphasis on certain words in an effort she understood should provide some comfort to a patient. Not to mention her omission of the motivation relating to the transporter mystery in favour of one relating to the patient’s friends. Bedside manner and half truths were something which were rather beaten into her by her previous department head. After several weeks of dragging her feet on her previous and first ship at having been given what she saw as a ‘trial run’ assignment, she eventually came to appreciate that perhaps it wasn’t actually so easy as she thought to slip straight in to the role of a practicing physician.

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

OOC: Aye, aye :)

OOC: Just to clarify for you, one injured Gravien. Maree is a politician and the other is Gravuen doctor.

James

OOC: Thanks! I wasn’t 100% on Maree from the catch-up I’d done. Of course, Che’lak is clueless and doesn’t much care to know. :)
-Jamie

=/\= K’sang to Captain Cochrane, it looks like you could use a little help Sir. Permission to forgoe protocol and set aside introductions for later? Exiting Science Lab 1 with an updated PaDD in hand he began to make his way to the turbolift. To cut things short, my strengths are in Xenobiology, and i’m on my way to the Medical bay to see if I can be of any assistance until priorities shift. =/\=

K’Sang, CSO

=^= Negative, Mr. K’Sang. I recieved reports the bridge found some kind of radiation signature on the planet. Please head there directly and see if you can find out what kind and a source. I will meet you there shortly.=^=

Cochrane looked around. “Counselor. Please stay here and assist the Graviens. And keep me informed of the condition of everyone. I’ll be on the bridge.” and he made his way out.

Cochrane, CO

Zef watched him prepare to leave. “Of course, Captain. If at all possible, please keep me in the loop.” She was sure the Gravinians were going to have questions, and in sickbay, she would be their only bridge to the information.

—Rollo, CNS

Maree looked at Rollo and more or less dragged her along to the other bed with a questioning look toward both the Counselor and the Vulcan. As she was settled, Maree’s normal bruskness returned. “It’s your device. We have never had such technology.” While it may sound like an evasive answer it was also a true one.

Her change in demeanor and evasiveness led Rollo to believe that age might be an important factor in Gravinian physiology. However, there was no reason to make a big deal out of it. She just needed to tell the medical staff to keep an eye out, just in case.

Che’lak tailed the pair at a comfotable distance. Once Maree had settled down, the Vulcan flipped open her tricorder and began probing the high-level structure of the Gravian’s bodily structure while hearing, but not listening, to her words.

Che’lak’s initial scans would show a rather complex physiology. The heart and lungs were part of a single set of organs interconnected with the lungs like wings out from the heart. For the other internal organs .. the kidneys, liver, spleen, appendix or so on .. all those looked to be in a single glob.
- Wookiee

The physiologist’s dedicated composure hit a wobble as her surprise was matched only by her fascination. Never in all her years of case studies has she encountered anything similar. Just barely had her work in theory touched on biological systems with vaguely similar constructions. As her first minutes on board could have gone, this scenario was rather strongly validating her decision to enter field medicine as an approach to her research.

The doctor furthered her scan, looking for any areas of the body containing notable cavities. In any other being she would have brushed of the existence of such things but in this case she was ruling out nothing. Recognising the senior officer opposite her, she spoke past Maree. “Counsellor, what is our situation here? Do we have access, or the possibility thereof, to information or literature on the physiology of the Gravians?”

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

“We have whatever the away team has gathered. Might I suggest scanning one of the other Gravinians that is here?” Both Hone and Maree were much older than Mr Tov, so whatever Maree had alluded to would possibly show up when the scans were compared to each other.

—Rollo, CNS

Looking over the scans Che’lak had taken, Jasmine focused on the interconnected circulatory-respiratory systems. The heart and lungs were part of a single set of organs interconnected with the lungs like wings. She could not get out the idea that the organs looked as if they could float away which again supported the insane theory of a corporeal form inside the Graviens. “Dr Hone,” she said enlarging a section of the scan. “How can I assist you,” Jasmine said waiting for directions. She set a scanner to take readings specifically of the heart and lung structure making a note and saving it in a file for Shon. Maybe this was the reason for the varied illnesses back in Ka Verde. Maybe blood types were compatible but organs were not.
