\= K’sang to Captain Cochrane, it looks like you could use a little help Sir. Permission to forgoe protocol and set aside introductions for later? Exiting Science Lab 1 with an updated PaDD in hand he began to make his way to the turbolift. To cut things short, my strengths are in Xenobiology, and i’m on my way to the Medical bay to see if I can be of any assistance until priorities shift. =/\=

K’Sang, CSO

=^= Negative, Mr. K’Sang. I recieved reports the bridge found some kind of radiation signature on the planet. Please head there directly and see if you can find out what kind and a source. I will meet you there shortly.=^=

Cochrane looked around. “Counselor. Please stay here and assist the Graviens. And keep me informed of the condition of everyone. I’ll be on the bridge.” and he made his way out.

Cochrane, CO

Zef watched him prepare to leave. “Of course, Captain. If at all possible, please keep me in the loop.” She was sure the Gravinians were going to have questions, and in sickbay, she would be their only bridge to the information.

—Rollo, CNS

Maree looked at Rollo and more or less dragged her along to the other bed with a questioning look toward both the Counselor and the Vulcan. As she was settled, Maree’s normal bruskness returned. “It’s your device. We have never had such technology.” While it may sound like an evasive answer it was also a true one.

Her change in demeanor and evasiveness led Rollo to believe that age might be an important factor in Gravinian physiology. However, there was no reason to make a big deal out of it. She just needed to tell the medical staff to keep an eye out, just in case.

Che’lak tailed the pair at a comfotable distance. Once Maree had settled down, the Vulcan flipped open her tricorder and began probing the high-level structure of the Gravian’s bodily structure while hearing, but not listening, to her words.

Che’lak’s initial scans would show a rather complex physiology. The heart and lungs were part of a single set of organs interconnected with the lungs like wings out from the heart. For the other internal organs .. the kidneys, liver, spleen, appendix or so on .. all those looked to be in a single glob.
- Wookiee

The physiologist’s dedicated composure hit a wobble as her surprise was matched only by her fascination. Never in all her years of case studies has she encountered anything similar. Just barely had her work in theory touched on biological systems with vaguely similar constructions. As her first minutes on board could have gone, this scenario was rather strongly validating her decision to enter field medicine as an approach to her research.

The doctor furthered her scan, looking for any areas of the body containing notable cavities. In any other being she would have brushed of the existence of such things but in this case she was ruling out nothing. Recognising the senior officer opposite her, she spoke past Maree. “Counsellor, what is our situation here? Do we have access, or the possibility thereof, to information or literature on the physiology of the Gravians?”

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

There was basic medical information provided in a overview of culture and Gravenian physiology. It wasn’t detailed in the least but was more like a high school biology course study than anything hugely detailed.

“We have whatever the away team has gathered. Might I suggest scanning one of the other Gravinians that is here?” Both Hone and Maree were much older than Mr Tov, so whatever Maree had alluded to would possibly show up when the scans were compared to each other.

—Rollo, CNS

Meaning there that the scans that had been recovered or done were more detailed than what they had been provided in the initial diplomatic transmissions. Maree shrugged. “Hone is busy. Scan me if you like.”

Che’lak gave no verbal response. A respectful, appreciative nod was given to Rollo as she completed her scans of Maree. This situation was her bread and butter but she had been thrown in with a dearth of context and information. Nonetheless, such an experience was valuable in her estimation. Field duty would be full of such scenarios and the physiologist had every intention on developing strategies which would allow her to excel here just as well as she had done behind her desk.

Looking over the scans Che’lak had taken, Jasmine focused on the interconnected circulatory-respiratory systems. The heart and lungs were part of a single set of organs interconnected with the lungs like wings. She could not get out the idea that the organs looked as if they could float away which again supported the insane theory of a corporeal form inside the Graviens. “Dr Hone,” she said enlarging a section of the scan. “How can I assist you,” Jasmine said waiting for directions. She set a scanner to take readings specifically of the heart and lung structure making a note and saving it in a file for Shon. Maybe this was the reason for the varied illnesses back in Ka Verde. Maybe blood types were compatible but organs were not.

“Tell me what I’m seeing with your scans. From mine I am seeing a rupture in the upper veri-tract that may hemmorage if we do not halt the level of internal bleeding. His head injury can wait as can his legs and arm. Tov is very seriously injured here and it will take surgery to patch up. Now,” he said looking at Wynter and Che’lak. “I can start. You’ll have to finish. He looked to Maree. “We’ll need your blood.” It wasn’t a question but a statement.

Maree flinched. “Of course.”
- Wookiee

With great haste Che’lak rounded the biobeds to face Wynter and Hone from across the body of Tov. Waving her tricorder, she took the same readings as she had for Maree. If there were any vast discrepancies, it would seem logical that such a quick procedure could provide valuable enlightenment well worth the time invested. Once her scans were underway, the doctor refocussed her attention on the other medics approach to treating the man. As much as she hoped Wynter would appreciate the importance of her investigation, she was fully prepared to be ordered to aid in the treatment of Tov before continuing.

Lt. J.G. Che’lak - Medical

“Your physiology is not like any I have seen. Especially your cardio-pulmonary tract or what you call your upper veri-tract which I assume is this section here,” Jasmine circled the section of the scan with the heart and wing-like lung structure. Performing surgery on an unknown race was always difficult and risky. Luckily Jasmine and Che’lak were not going in blind. They had Hone. Bringing up all information Jasmine had on the Graviens on the large surgical wall PaDD, Jasmine tried to hide her grimace. With the information they had on the subject, it was like a high school anatomy and physiology class but Tov was no frog. Bringing the surgical equipment on line, Jasmine was glad to be in the twenty-four century. From what she could tell so far, Gravien medicine was on par with the twenty-first-century medicine where doctors went in was a pat on the patient’s shoulder and the promise they were going to be just fine. “Okay we are ready to assist,” she said to Hone with a brief eye gaze towards Che’lak. switching on the wall PaDD was not something she routinely did except to train those in her department in unfamiliar surgeries. This time it was meant to tape the surgery for reference later. A later review might give them something to learn about the Gravien anatomy and physiology if the needed it again.

Having Che’lak was also a boon. The newest doctor seemed to specialize in physiology. So much of medicine was what you had experienced instead of learned. For what she didn’t know, Jasmine hoped Che’lak and her could figure it out.

Taking the initiative, Pretha tapped her comm badge. =^= Medical, this is Lt Oberon. I’m on the surface with the XO and the Diplomat, Ms Anders. We are finishing up for the day and our Hosts are asking about the status of their people up there. Do we have anything to tell them yet?=^=

Pretha
Sec/CRIT Ldr

=/\=For the moment Tov is stable but we are beginning surgery with the assistance of Dr. Hone. We will report when it is over,=/\= Jasmine responded to the comm.
