“I can agree to this, honey pots do really well catching the prey, we can’t gurantee anything though… but I might be able to ensure this goes to plan better than normal. I can always use my engineering skills to… stack the deck in your favor so to speak along with my intelgience background.” Jack said as he looked over at Shara.

Shara gazed deeply at Faye, her brows knit. Suddenly her well crafted mask was having a hard time staying put. “I don’t disagree with that,” she told Cochrane before focusing again on Faye. “You’ve been through enough,” she said, her tone much softer and nuanced than earlier.

Faye’s eyes narrowed. “You know nothing about what I’ve been through.” She was trying to keep the venom out of her tone, but it had been decidedly difficult. After all, regardless of what the other woman had read in a file, she had no idea of what Faye had actually experienced.

Shara sighed. “Actually, I do, but that’s neither here nor there. Right now, you have a plan?”

Biting her tongue, Faye glanced at Alex and then turned to Creed. “We’re going to play this out right now. I’m going to take off and you’re going to give me enough time to reach the turbolift. After that, it’s game on. You go ahead and try to find me and we show down in the shuttle bay. Call in security to help, since we need witnesses.” Faye grinned, more at the absurdity of her next statement than anything. “All I ask is that you keep it to light stun. I’m a lot healthier than I was a year ago but I don’t have much weight on my body still. So if you end up trying to take me down, know you’ll need less power to do so.”

“Well not so fast, in order for this to work… we need something… to plant. You need to get away, and we need to trace it all, so…” Jack paused as he walked over to Faye as he pulled her combadge off of her as he flipped it back. Reaching into his pocket he pulled a small tool as he began to mess with the back as he began to modify some settings. “It isn’t perfect, but be sure when you make contact to have this attached to the console… if these modifications work it should light up the network like a torch in a cave, let us see where everything goes.”

Faye frowned. “You know, I was planning to ditch the combadge, right? Like what person in their right mind who is supposed to be a spy would keep something on them that could be tracked?” She sighed as she took it back. “But I will make sure security can’t trace me and I try to make contact with Blue. Though I can’t guarantee that it won’t be used as a decoy if needed,” she said, her eyes gleaming just a tiny bit. Already the adrenaline was starting to pump through her as she readied herself for this rather

“It isn’t going to be able to track you, thus the modifications. It will however as soon as you attach it to a comm station and relay ‘help’ fro your handler, to let us get a trace to see just where the signal really goes. It’ll help us in verifying their location getting a headstart on the whole proving you innocent thing.” Jack answered, knowing they needed more evidence than ever to help free her.

Cochrane gritted his teeth and said “Now is the part I hate the most.” He reached into his desk and pulled out a type 1 phaser. He set it to its lowest power level, but wide beam. He then slid it across the desk. “Not a soul on this ship will believe that you simply ran away from the three of us. Fire, the alarms will sound for weapons discharge. That should give you a solid 3 or 4 seconds to hit the turbolift and make your ‘getaway’. Hit all of us so that we can say you incapacitated us temporarily. Medical will back it up when they scan us after your ‘capture.”

Faye stared at him, utterly astonished. A part of her brain (the more rational part) understood what he was asking her to do, but the reality was that Faye had never fired at weapon at someone who was not her enemy. Ever. Now, that definition of enemy could change, but the principle was one that important to her. These people, regardless of any of her personal feelings towards one, were not her enemy, so she swallowed hard as she stepped closer to the desk. “How did you know I wasn’t already packing?” she said, knowing that he’d know she was joking. She hadn’t been anticipating anything like this to happen, but even then she’d only have considered secretly arming herself if she thought it had been necessary. It hadn’t been… until now.

“I mean she could just hold us at phaser point and leave then we set an alarm of her escape…” Jack said with a concerned look as he seemed to feel this skipped a few steps. “But I guess it does give us more probable cause than normal…”

“Plausible deniability helps too,” Shara said with a sigh. Well, they were in a right mess, so they might as well go for it, right? Not that she was entirely keen on being shot today.

Faye tossed a quick glance at her mother, her mind already having a hard time with this whole life-upending situation. Her little world had shattered as soon as her mother walked into the room. What was a little more? Reaching out, she slipped her fingers around the phaser and stepped back.

Her stomach churned but Faye simply rolled back her shoulders and took the other officers in for a moment. “So, anything else we need to settle before I potentially toss my career and life out the airlock?” she said lightly, as if they were discussing a malfunctioning environmental control.

Cochrane smiled with a look that said ‘Well… here we go.’ and then looked at Faye.

“Not in the face. That’s my money maker.” and he winked.

“Just hurry it up, the longer we banter the more things look suspicious,” Jack grumbled as he still wasn’t sold on this all, his perpetually suspicious nature.
