Setting her knife down jasmine decided to help Max. “Bacon, yellow banana peppers and cheese more cheese,” she added but in the process flicked the the ham and chicken into a pile next to the pizza. Leaning her head forward she took the bite of cheese from Max and chewed it happily.

“Ookay so we’re avoiding the chicken and ham. You are such an elitist pizza snob,” Max told her, but he held her tighter with his arms around her and began to add more cheese to the pizza.

“Oh oh oh wait,” she got overly excited as she ground her palm into the edge of the crust. “Let’s stuff this with cheese and ,” she flicked off another piece of ham she had missed, “roll it up so the cheese goos out like the holocommericals from Parsec Pizza”.

Faye just looked at Jasmine and shook her head as she took a sip of the wine in her glass.

“Oh I love your wicked ways,” Max whispered to her, and began to add extra cheese to the extended crust that Jasmine was creating so it could be folded over. Pausing, he picked up Jasmines beer, offering her a drink while she worked and sneaking more Salami onto the Pizza. “We need sauce to go with the cheese, we gotta make it runny and gooey so it mixes with the cheese.”

Alex watched the two and just shook his head. “Make sure the Wynter’s public displays of affection don’t work their way onto our pizzas, Faye. We dont know where their hands have been.” and he waved off Max before he could speak. “Nor do we want to!” and he laughed.

“Best never to ask,” Calloway replied as she moved around the other side of the small work table to prep his pizza. There was hot salami, pepperoni, thin slices of red onion and red pepper, plus some pickled hot peppers. But alongside the standard pizza mozzarella, she added a type of soft cheese that would melt and add a touch of sweetness. After it came out of the oven she was going to add one other perfect ingredient. Or so she hoped. He could hate this all. But that was half the fun. They were learning about each other, and if Jasmine’s bonkers idea went well, then maybe… no, she wasn’t going to get her hopes up. But, on the other hand, they had been having a good time so far. Which, in any sort of circumstances was rather extraordinary for her.

“Okay, cooking time. I’ll handle it because the oven is makeshift and a little temperamental,” Faye said as she moved over to the side table where the pizza oven was pre-heated and clearly cobbled together and running via a power cell. She jabbed a thumb in the direction of the oven, “but, uh, let’s get them in there. Three and half, maybe four minutes depending on what crazy things you did to yours,” she said, shooting Jasmine a pointed look.

“I got it,” Max said and lifted the Pizza on the cooking stone. “Don’t worry, it’ll be like two minutes, it’s all cheese and sauce when Jaz has any say in what goes on it.” Bringing the Pizza around to Faye, Max looked over at Cochrane, “My hands are perfectly clean thank you very much,” he smirked. “I keep my Warp Core spotless! You should hope some of that PDA goes on the pizza, it’ll make it pop.” Sliding the Pizza in gently he left Faye to do the rest, lest the finicky machine play up. He was off duty and unless it seriously broke, he planned to stay that way. Picking up his beer again he returned to Jasmine and slid his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him, but taking a moment to ‘steal’ a loose piece of hot salami that was left on the bench.

Faye managed to keep her face turned away from Alex when Max’s comment about adding PDA to the meal. This could still go badly, she reminded herself, hoping that things wouldn’t get awkward now that there were other people around. And she could only hope Jasmine would behave herself though what little she knew about the woman told her that if Faye didn’t end up blushing visibly at least once more tonight, then things really had gone badly.

The little makeshift oven was doing its thing and Faye double checked the vent to make sure they wouldn’t end up filling her quarters with smoke. But the crust was starting to bubble up and she breathed a sigh in relief that her dough hadn’t overproofed.

Casting her gaze over her shoulder, Calloway looked at Alex. “More music? Unless you really want to try my weird girl music. But I think we’ve already established you have better music taste than me,” she said with a grin.

“Your party, your rules. I’m off the clock.” and he raised his glass of wine to her in a sort of salute as he chuckled. “But I will DJ if you want me to. Just say the word… if you don’t trust us not to judge you on your ‘weird girl music’.”

Faye couldn’t help but laugh and flashed him a wide smile. “It’s not the music, it’s the inevitable performance that goes with some of it,” she said idly.

Turning to Max, she pointed to the oven where his and Jasmine’s pizzas were doing quite well. “Forty-five seconds, then check it. I’ve got a makeshift peel there you can use to pull them out safely.”

Spinning and striding over to the computer console on her desk, she pulled up a rather eclectic playlist. Of the various things she could have started off with, she chose the most… well, surprising (perhaps). Was it a test? Most definitely. But it wasn’t just the song, oh no.

The sound of electronic beats and tones came on with some sort of words spoken in a higher-pitched robotic voice that was hard to pick out unless you knew what the words were or your hearing was quite sharp. Faye stood there, grooving after she found the beat. And then when the lyrics started, she broke out into lip-syncing… with full body motions and hand gestures. And of course, all the attitude.

“Well, now, don’t you tell me to smile
You stick around I’ll make it worth your while
My number’s beyond what you can dial
Maybe it’s because we’re so versatile
Style, profile, I said
It always brings me back when I hear, “ooh, child!”
From The Hudson River out to the Nile
I run the marathon to the very last mile
Well, if you battle me I feel reviled
People always sayin’ my style is wild
You’ve got gall, you’ve got guile
Step to me I’m a rap-o-phile
If you want to battle you’re in denial
Comin’ from Uranus to check my style
Go ahead, put my rhymes on trial
Cast you off into exile

One verse, that was all they were getting out of here, but as the music carried on, she pretended to dust off her hands and gave them a look that dared them to laugh.

Cochrane bobbed his head slightly to the beat and said “Ah yes… the classics. I am impressed, Calloway. I took you for more of a Tellerite Electronica kind of soul.” and then he did laugh.

Hands on her hips now, Faye bowed at the compliment, despite feeling like she might turn five shades of red. “Hey, EDM can be interesting. It has its place,” she said as she moved toward Cochrane. Approaching , she leaned in slightly. “And I keep telling you, I’m full of surprises. Maybe some day you’ll actually believe me,” she teased with a grin.

~Faye Calloway, Data Specialist

“I already believe you,” Max said as he took the pizza out of the oven and overheard Faye’s remark, “in my experience those surprises hit you with a bang,” he teased Calloway, and set the Pizza onto the bench looking at Jasmine. “Is this enough cheese for you? Did that song really have a line in it that said Coming from your anus? What kind of music are you listening to Faye?”
