Hands on her hips now, Faye bowed at the compliment, despite feeling like she might turn five shades of red. “Hey, EDM can be interesting. It has its place,” she said as she moved toward Cochrane. Approaching , she leaned in slightly. “And I keep telling you, I’m full of surprises. Maybe some day you’ll actually believe me,” she teased with a grin.

“I already believe you,” Max said as he took the pizza out of the oven and overheard Faye’s remark, “in my experience those surprises hit you with a bang,” he teased Calloway, and set the Pizza onto the bench looking at Jasmine. “Is this enough cheese for you? Did that song really have a line in it that said Coming from your anus? What kind of music are you listening to Faye?”

Faye snorted. “The lyric refers to the planet but you can take it however you like,” she said airily. “But no dissing my music or you won’t get any more pizza.”

Elbowing her husband sharply in the side Jasmine coughed loudly. “Eat this,” she shoved another slice of pizza in his mouth not caring if he was ready or not. The song had a catchy beat. The your anus line had to be a polite way to say kiss my arse or something like that. At least that is what Jasmine hoped. In her experience most Rap music dealt with rough themes so it made sense to have that lyric even if it made her blush some.

“Yes dear,” Max said, taking an extra large bite and chewing cheesily.

Cochrane looked at Faye and winked and stood up and looked at the Wynters. “Uncultured swine… the both of you.” and as the next verses began, the man began to speak in perfect synch with the music and moved in a way that seemed to indicate he was no stranger to dancing:

Jazz and AWOL, that’s our team
Step inside the party, disrupt the whole scene
When it comes to beats, well, I’m a fiend
I like my sugar with coffee and cream

Well, I gotta keep it going, keep it going full steam
Too sweet to be sour; too nice to be mean
Well, on the tough guy style, I’m not too keen
Trying to change the world, I will plot and scheme

“Shall we call Security?” Max asked Jasmine with a grin, watching in mock horror. “They have clearly been brainwashed by that Romulan Tuk Tok program to dance uncontrollably when certain music is played. Mind Control, it has to be, and they have taken our Captain!”

Jasmine let out a laugh and leaned back into Max’s body. She had had so many concerns about coming to the Manhattan. Now all those fears felt frivolous. Life had settled into something akin to the crew becoming family. Tilting her head back she looked up at Max. “Do you know how much I love you?” The question was rhetorical. The soft kiss she gave him was the only answer she needed when he returned it and looked at her the way he did making her melt inside. Hanging with friends and Max for the evening was the perfect night.

She was having an out of body experience, right? Or they had been punted into a parallel universe, yes? There was no way this man was spouting the lyrics to a song that amused her like he had written the words himself. Mouth agape, Faye felt another ones of those flutters in her stomach when he did or said something that made her stop and look at him more deeply. I am in so much trouble. Faye Calloway did not fall head over heels for anyone. Having never had it happen before, she wasn’t entirely sure if that was happening here, but Faye did recognize that she was staring at him in slight awe.

Shaking her head, Faye moved off towards the pizza making station. “For that you deserve your pizza now, so I guess I better put it in,” she said. Nonchalant, she could do that, right?

Their pizzas were already to go, so she carefully slipped them into the pizza oven and mentally set a timer. Turning at the hips she looked over at Max and Jasmine. “How is it? I’ll have you know this little contraption is made from scrap parts. No useful parts were harmed in the making of it,” she said with a grin. “Explosion-free, too,” Calloway added, referring back to Max’s earlier joke about surprises that blew up.

“Not yet,” Max quipped, raising his beer to Faye in a congratulatory toast, “You owe us more pizza if it does though.”
