After quickly dropping off the samples in one of the science labs, Kiama was now sitting at the desk in the Chief Science Officer’s office to write a preliminary report about their part of the away mission. A few things about the happenings on the surface had struck her as odd, but she couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was. So her hope was that by writing things down, she’d get a better idea what it really was that wasn’t sitting right with her.

The access door opened as a Klingon in a Federation Uniform Matching her own casually walked into the office, he was nose deep in his PaDD, and seemed to give Naim no notice. Turning as he took the room in stride, he moved to the nearest display and transferred his data to a larger monitor. “Computer, set a reminder to contact Lieutenant Naim one hour after her return from planet side.. That should be enough time to get some rest before I have to duck lab equipment” With a weary sigh, he rubbed his eyes.

As the doors to the office slid open, Kiama looked up in surprise. Normally people pressed the chime and waited to be called inside before entering another person’s office. A small frown appeared on her dark face as she watched the Klingon science officer walk inside, apparently oblivious to her presence in the room, and only deepened at the mentioning of her own name. Not quite sure what to make of this, she remained silent and just watched the other officer for now, wondering if or when he’d notice that he wasn’t alone and also what he was doing in her office.

“Bi’SeH’eghlaH’be’chugh latlh Dara’laH’be’” he said, reaching up to the display he began cycling through resident creatures from the XenoBiology lab on Deck 5. It looked like he was monitoring their vitals and adjusting nutrient levels to improve quality of health.

Literal translation: If you cannot control yourself, you cannot command others.

K’sang, CSO

Clearing her throat while rising to her feet, Kiama fixed K’sang with her black eyes. “May I help you Lieutenant?” she asked politely. The palms of her hands were resting on the desk in front of her. One of her eyebrows was raised and the expression on her face was a mix of bemusement and curiosity.

“It actually seems to be the opposite.” K’sang replied as he turned, “Lieutenant Naim I presume? Acting CSO and head of the field team planet side?”
K’sang, CSO

“Yes,” Kiama replied slowly, her eyes never leaving K’sang. “What do you mean by ‘It actually seems to be the opposite’? Who are you and what are you doing in my office?” While her confusion grew slightly with every passing moment, her voice remained even and friendly.

“It seems Starfleet is splitting up the workload.. I’m K’sang, recently stationed Chief Science Officer.” K’sang made a gesture to the PaDD, “I was reassigned from the Challenger.”

K’sang, CSO

Kiama blinked several times and for a moment or two simply stared at K’sang. “Chief Science Officer? What? I don’t understand,” she asked slowly, her confusion probably more than obvious. She had assumed that she’d remain in that position. Of course it had been quite a surprise being promoted to CSO right after her graduation from the Academy. But with her previous experience during her time at the University of Betazed before she joined Starfleet, it had felt natural and good to step into that role. So having another officer stand in what she assumed was her office and tell her he was the new CSO came as a bit of a … surprise.
