Looking deeper, Danora could see the power cell nestled in the base that seemed to be hooked up to the entire thing, including the inner sphere. There wasn’t a direct linkup per say but it would be possible to connect the sphere’s computer to the tricorder. Internally, the inner sphere was 1 meter in diameter and as there wasn’t much to detect except for the vague reading of organic matter.

It didn’t appear that Engineering received the last communication, because the Chief Engineer’s voice came over the Shuttle Bay’s comms again:

=^= Engineering to Shuttle Bay. Just confirming whether assistance is required for the probe. =^=

-Lt. (j.g.) Mark Sinclair, CE (cross-post)

That was interesting. “Are we having comm problems in here?” That would cause some issues that he didn’t want to deal with at the moment.

Janzen

“Lieutenant I need you to keep working down here I am going to go back up to the bridge…I wonder if we should not trace this thing back maybe the Delta Quadrant base has a trajectory for where it came from that we might be able to follow up with” Tralla said standing up and returning the Tricorder to the NE she had narrowed it from “Mr. Janzen please remain here and help them out” she added giving her husband a smile knowing he would want to be able to get his hands dirty again so to speak

Tralla

She had left him in charge. Why did she do that? Not that BJ minded. He popped inside the sphere. “How’s it going?

Janzen

OOC: What do you mean by “inside” the sphere? We can assume you’ve dropped the containment field and raised it back up, but I just want to be sure we’re all on the same page.

~Linds

OOC: wherever our engineer is. I assumed she was inside.

The Chief Engineer arrived at that moment. “Sir,” he said, upon seeing Commander Janzen in charge, coming to stop. Mark would appear slightly flushed - had he rushed all the way over from Engineering? “We weren’t getting any updates in Engineering, and I thought we might help with accessing this probe.”

Mark was slightly distracted near the end of his sentence, as he started paying more and more attention to the probe in the shuttle bay. This was his first time seeing it, and already the puzzle of how to access it was going through his head. “What have you discovered so far?”

As the other officers briefed him, Mark crouched down so he could peer at what Danora was looking at. “Hmmm.. you’re the AI expert here. Why don’t you hook up that computer access link to your tricorder and see what happens. Perhaps Commander Janzen could assist? (OOC: BJ, might make sense for you to start role-playing this out until Mel returns back from her LOA.)

Meanwhile, Mark looked at the exterior of the inner sphere that had the grooves. The shape was fairly familiar - it had to be some type of physical access to interior of the of the inner sphere. Ready to get his hands dirty, Mark pulled out his tricorder to see if he could make out the mechanism to open it.

-Lt. (j.g.) Mark Sinclair, CE

Danora took a step back to let the guys take a look. She had the panel on the outside propped open so they could reach in without worrying about being guillotined in two. And the inner probe was still closed but her tricorder was now settled on the surface under the inner sphere. “Ok, tricorder hooked up. It’ll need about five minutes to sinc and download then we can safely look at the data without putting the main computer at risk. And if I need to I can create an isolated system in engineering to look at it if it’s too much for the recorder.”

She glanced at Sinclair as she finished. “Sorry for not responding. I’m guessing the shielding and whatever energy this is putting out may be interfering with the comms.”

AI Spec
((I just got the impression that now there are three heads inside the probe? Was under the impression Danora’s upper torso barely fit in the opening,,, have I been wrong all this time? lol))

BJ nodded. “Let’s take the data first. See where that takes us and then continue with the sphere itself.”

Janzen

OOC: While, yes the outer sphere is 2 metres in diameter, the space between it and the inner sphere is filled with parts, including the computer system, and the outer hatch is only big enough for one person t o hover over and get their arms inside. Two people can work at the same time if they were working together and tacking turns. Comms are fine, no interference- people need to cross-post replies and be mindful not to accidentally ignore comms.
IC:
Sinclair would note that the interior hatch had a mechanical hinge and was secured internally along the edges. Something had to make physical contact with it to trigger it to open.

The data link took a minute, but soon enough there was a solid connection. That connection seemed to trigger a holographic image to be projected in front of them and the crew might have to step back to see it clearly since it was a good metre tall and half a metre wide.

A being with a roundish tan face appeared. The face had an outer line of small triangular ridges, squat nose and deep sunken eyes. Tufts of pale fur or hair in beige and white extend from between the ridges from one side of the jaw around the top to the head to the other side of the jaw. From the shoulder it appeared as though a soft fabric in bright teal and orange were draped across the body. The being began speaking, the language not immediately translatable.

~Mischief Maker

Mark studied his tricorder setting. This was something he could work with. “I think I can start working on getting this hatch opened,” the Chief Engineer said.

While waiting for Janzen’s orders - the Commander told him to hold off for now - Mark tried to focus on the inner sphere while the alien language was speaking in the background. Literally wanting to physically solve the problem of the sphere, Mark ran his hand along the ridges to get a feel of what might be needed to open the hatch.

OOC Jumping in as the AI just to help move things along

=^=”It is a good thing I have been recording since we brought the object in”=^= Maizie the AI suddenly said as the hologram played

AI Miazie

BJ read the room. “I know you want to go through that thing and take it apart. I may be a little too cautious but the last time I led a team to an unknown object I got punched by my shadow.”

Janzen

Wendell was cautiously observing the goings on. He finally said, “I think that we should drop the containment field. It can’t hurt us. We can beam it away to space if it tries to do anything dangerous.”

CSO

That was a good point. If the object wasn’t entirely dangerous; then maybe they could be more aggressive. “Alright, let’s drop the field. We need a team to analyze the data we’re getting. Lt. Sinclair. I’ve changed my mind. Let’s see what we can discover about the construction of this thing. But I want a transporter lock on it if something goes wrong.”
