Shuttlebay- Main Sim

“Ehh, just a moment there, Lt,” Wendell said. “Let me at it. A probe like this should be in a museum. You know, some of Earth’s original probes had these ‘Golden Records’ in them. They had a wealth of information about Earth.”

Karina waited for Sinclair and Vaughn to report on their scans of the interior. A record of a planets history and knowledge? Such a find was invaluable, if that’s what it was. And made her request to Jenzen all the more important. If they couldn’t translate the language all that information would be for naught.

While the sphere itself and the language of the message it contained were unfamiliar and not on record, Sinclair’s reading did show something familiar and of interest: the substance inside the sphere contained a morphogenic matrix.

But before anyone could do anything further, the substance shifted again and shot upwards, seemingly of it’s own volition. Before their eyes it turned to steam and flowed through the forcefield, unperturbed by the attempt at containment. Upwards it rose to the shuttlebay ceiling, floating along until it found a ventilation vent and slipped through, disappearing from view.

Karina watched the thing move and go into the air ducts. “Computer lock down air supply system, initiate biological forcefields to prevent contaminants moving through environmental controls. Initiate environmental Containment protocols.”

=^=Enger to Zoarhi. Something came out of that sphere and is now in the duct work of the ship. I have initiated environmental contaminant protocols.=^= She turned to the other officers, “I want to know what that thing was and how we’re going to get it contained.” She turned to look at Sinclair, “Did you get any readings on it before it disappeared?”

Danora had been caught in a near rapture as the figure played. When the computer didn’t readily translate, she had moved to the console by the wall. As she typed, she spoke to the AI. “Maize… see if you can extrapolate from near similar dialogue and known cadences. Think of it like a Vulcan speaking. Lack of emotion and timber being an affect of the species, not the recording.” She knew it was a long shot, but maybe as the recording stopped and began again, she could work on making heads or tails of at least some of the speech that was being given.

As the gasp of surprise went up from the release of the creature from the sphere, she looked up in time to see it enter the vent. =^=Maize! Isolate the ventilation system. Find unknown object or chemical signature and see if you can contain it for transporter lock and beaming it to a containment field appropriate to its chemical makeup!=^= She was also using the console to try and track the entity as it moved, if Maize could locate it.

Mark looked back from the disappearing substance to his tricorder. He was an engineer first and foremost, but he did recall some of his important training about the war with the Dominion. “Commander,” Mark said to the XO. “If I’m interpreting these scans correctly, this may be a Changeling or something like it. According to my tricorder, it has a morphogenic matrix. I believe we have a potentially hostile and intruder aboard and should move to red alert.”

“Although we should still have been able to trap it with a force field…,” Mark started saying to himself.
