Karina was moving down the corridor at a clipped pace. She had started out just walking, getting used to the ship. Being seen and available. She was the bridge between the crew and command and she wanted the crew to feel they could approach her. She’d been way laid multiple times by various officers and crew. She turned her head to talk to a young crewman who was having trouble figuring out the layout of the ship and kept getting lost even with the computer’s help. It was simply a matter of nerves. She stopped and turned to talk to the ensign a few moments. After the ensign left she turned back around, not quite looking where she was going.

Jordar was making his way down the corridor, knowing exactly where to go and didn’t have time to waste. Ok truth be told he absolutely did have the time as his duty shift had ended but he walked as though his purpose was mighty and important. Keeping himself to the left of the corridor he made his way, a PaDD periodically taking his attention but he looked up every so often to make sure no bumbling buffoon was going to get in his way. He looked down again at the PaDD.

Karina turned back, the turn putting her towards the middle of the corridor, something she tried to avoid, to avoid traffic problems, but the ensign had another question about finding his way around the ship. She stepped over and showed him the controls, again. She made note to have the ship’s counselor check on the young man. After making sure the ensign was on the turbo lift she turned back in the direction she was going, and turned right into a very tall, very solid security ensign. She took a half step back and looked up, and up a bit more. “I apologize, ensign.”

Jordar looked up and spun himself to the side, parallel to the wall so as to not bump into the officer when he puffed up and said, “Instead of giving me useless platitudes how about you save them for someone who cares and watch where you’re going instead. These corridors are plenty wide Commander.” Jordar stood there, wondering if the woman would respond in kind or go running to complain about him like most.

Karina stopped, looked him up and down and noticed the webbed hand, her eyes lighting up. He was Zaldan. Her day just got exceptionally better. “How about you learn to get your head out of whatever drivel is on that PaDD and look around you, Ensign. Be glad you got a platitude, next time it’ll be the brig if you can’t keep your bumbling hulk of a body out of my way.”

So either she was onboard or she was making a big mistake. Either way this would be fun and honest. “My drivel? Commander not all of us are graced with the ability to read minds and project our thoughts. Perhaps a refresher on the crew compliment and what our recent missions are and the reports aren’t to your liking but I wouldn’t think day to day operations on the vessel would count as drivel.” He replied to the Cairn, not knowing actually if they were telepathic in that sort of way or not. “As for the platitudes? I’d rather take the brig than the disingenuous words of those that wish to make me ‘feel better’. How about in the future I stare straight ahead and you perhaps can do the same?”

Jordar, Sec

“Good to know you read important reports while traveling the halls recklessly rather than where you can fully focus on them. I expect that official reports be given your full attention. Perhaps your brain got fried and overwhelmed at being assigned to a battle ship and you’re playing catch-up? Trust me Ensign if I was projecting to you, you’d know it.” Of course she couldn’t project to him. Cairn could only communicate with other telepaths. They could, if they focused pick up surface thoughts but the way other minds were organized made them very confusing and difficult read and didn’t work often. Karina was having a blast. It was so refreshing. “I can do the same, but then if I did that, I wouldn’t see you, now would I?”
