Having completed her medical evaluation, Karina made her way down the corridor towards the office of the ship’s counselor. She was interested to see if there was an actual department or if Lt Arbogist worked alone. It depended on the ship, and just not size, but the type of assignments the ship was given. She found the office easily enough. Karina did not always understand, right away, clichés. Often having to analyze the literal and move to the abstract. Her years of service with Star Fleet and being around members of the Federation because of her father’s work she didn’t have that problem much anymore. Every once in awhile though one would surprise her. ‘Who counsels the counselor’ was one such axiom that she pondered a lot. After hearing the deepest and most horrible and then the most petty as well, Karina often marveled at the mental fortitude of those who served as ship’s counselors. She pressed the chime on the office and waited.

The counselors office was one singular office. Upon the door opening, she could see a large office space. The room was well lit, and the first obvious thing she would notice would be the piano situated in the middle of the room. To the right of the piano was a small seating area comprised of a sofa against the wall, with two arm chairs on either side facing inwards towards each other. A round coffee table in between the seating completed the area.

To the left of the piano was a large desk, two chair seated in front facing it. Behind the desk sat a man with auburn colored hair and dark black eyes. He looked up as he saw her enter. He smiled and stood, making his way towards her. “Hello, I am Counselor Simon Arbogist.” He held out his hand towards her. “It is a pleasure to meet you.”

Karina took his hand shaking it firmly. She understood that among humans hand shakes were significant. Hers was neither ‘limp fish’ as the saying went not did she have a point to prove. It simply conveyed politeness and confidence. If she hadn’t read the senior staff files already, Arbogist’s black eyes told her he was Betazoid. It always amazed her how others missed that fact. Her mind was an open book for the counselor. Karina was Cairn and there was no idea of privacy on her world. She also felt openness and complete honesty was best when it came to counselors. First they were trained to know when others were hiding things, second it when against her culture to be deceptive, and third there was no reason to make a counselor’s job harder when they were there to help. “A pleasure counselor. I am Karina Enger, the new XO. I’m here for my onboarding.”
