Karina smirked slightly seeing the CO’s husband walk up. It was good for them to get to be a couple and not just officers in more than in private. She raised her drink to the group. “I have to say Titus, this is wonderful, and a wonderful idea. I think I’m going to go check out the water.” Karina, discarded the sandals she’d been wearing and walked down toward the water, sipping at whatever the concoction was that she’d been served. Whatever it was, it was very good. The peach kimono-esk coverup flowed around her as she strode ankle deep into the water and began to wander along the coast line. Karina could swim but she wasn’t exactly skilled at it. Mostly she could stay afloat if needed.

Jordar entered wearing a casual if not somewhat out of place blazer and slacks with sandals and no shirt. Adorned on his head was a straw hat and a pair of sunglasses on his eyes, not that he needed them as protection from the UV emitted by the star, however it was going to be in his best interest to look as good as he could because he was riding on a high note. It was a matter of that damn woman who keeps running into, there was a growing fondness and he knew that she would be here. Not that he was specifically going to try to make a scene but between their interactions in the hallway and dinner he was going to be happy to see her.

He waltzed up to the bar and ordered an iced tea with lemon, two ice cubes, a few shaved pieces of coconut, and a tiny umbrella, and he was damn sure he was going to get his tiny umbrella! Thankfully the rather tall and imposing security officer didn’t have to ask twice, rather demand he supposed, his drink order before it was given to him and he spotted the XO. She was down by the water’s edge and Jordar strode up, kicking off his own sandals as well before approaching and gently ‘bumping’ into her, something the two did off and on as a joke and would usually have a few well placed insults or jabs thrown in with laughter abound. “You know even for a holodeck this is a nice looking beach and that outfit looks great on you. Really makes your butt look good Karina.” Jordar said bluntly, as he took another sip before saying, “How about you join me for a swim?” He said with a light little smile.

Karina got jostled from someone behind her and luckily she had good balance, despite the sand and water. However this being a holodeck she probably couldn’t trip if she wanted to. But she didn’t need to turn around - Jodar. That man was constantly bumping into her and blaming her when he did on purpose. And just like the other times she laughed, her eyes dancing a bit, “Even with all this room around, you can’t seem to keep your hulking bulk from running into me.” She slowed half a step as he came up beside her. “Nice to know how to get your attention.” She smiled at the compliment, oh it was brash, but she didn’t mind. She gave him a once over…the outfit was a bit…bizarre. She did like the effect the shirtless jacket had on his physique. “You could do to loose the sunglasses, I don’t like the way they hide your eyes.” She sipped at her drink, she really needed to find out what it was. “A swim? Tempting, but I never learned, not really.”

Lt Cmdr Enger, XO

With a chuckle he smiled and said in an almost gentle way, “Like a magnet it seems you’re that I’m just attracted to you” he replied making a pun on magnetism as well as the XO’s appeal. He paused and pulled off the sunglasses and raised his eyebrows almost saying, ‘are you sure’? before he shrugged and tossed them into the waves “Better?” He asked as he put an arm around her and said, “Never learned to swim? What is it with you Cairn? No verbal communication? No privacy? And now no swimming? For such an ‘advanced race’ you sure have a lot to learn from us ‘hulking bulks’.” He said with a wide smile. “Come on, I’ll teach you” he said before wrapping his arms gently around her waist and picking her up and walking into the water. “We Zaldan are expert swimmers as you know and I’m the best teacher onboard.” He mentioned when he was waist deep. Well, his waist that was, before summarily dropping her as he said, “Step 1: Get wet”.

With an unabashed grin Karina made a go ahead motion with her hand as he reached for the sunglasses. She watched with growing amusement as he tossed them into the water; he had flair. She looked up at him, right in the eye. “Much, much better.” She was surprised, pleasantly so, when he put an arm around her. She laughed, “Oh it’s just me. I didn’t grow up near the water. But if the lack of privacy bothers you, we can always stop conversing.” She winked, teasing him. She wasn’t prepared to be picked up and she hissed in a surprised breath, she placed her hands on his arms, “A teacher is only as good as…” A large splash and Karina sank under the water. She remembered to hold her breath as she went under, but that was hard to do when she was also trying not to laugh. She kicked her feet to come back up, but the cover up clung to her feet and legs, entangling her and making it impossible to right herself…

As Karina sank into the water Jordar let out a hearty chuckle. “Only as good as my student I assume you were going to say?” He let out that pithy reply and waited to see if she’d resurface. He stood there looking at the water for what could have only been a few seconds as he waved his arms in a ‘well come on’ sort of way. When she still failed to surface he rolled his eyes as hard as a teenager who had been told to stop texting at the dinner table and sunk his way into the water as well. Well the first problem was that cover up that he could clearly see was mucking up the works. He went to lift her up so her head was out of the water and started to pull the cover off. She had other clothes on right?

Jordar, Sec

Karina had been busy trying to right herself with the tangle of the cover up. Really if he had just told her first, well that would have spoiled the fun for him wouldn’t it? And rather than being upset, as most human females seemed to be when a man was simply being roguish, Karina was having fun. His appearance was right on time: she was not out of breath or panicked and she had not freed herself yet. Which meant it gave him something to do, and she had the pleasure of seeing the exasperation on his face. She grabbed onto his shoulders as he lifted her up and once her head broke the surface she let the breath she’d been holding out with a laugh. This one much more exuberant than at dinner, but just at light hearted. But with the distance between them and the rest of the party and the noise no one would notice. “You are a horrible teacher, Jodar. I do remember from my few lessons that you aren’t supposed to wear stuff like this,” she waved at the cover up, “in the water. If you had just told me I didn’t have a choice in a swim, I could have removed it.” She looked up at him, laughter dancing in her eyes, “Or perhaps that was your whole idea?” briefly raising a brow as she shrugged her shoulders to help him remove the cover up. And then as if reading his mind, “Good thing I’ve got my bathing suite on.” The water wasn’t deep she could stand, but where it was waste high on him it was chest high for her. The eight inch difference in their height making a significant difference. She could step back but she’d have to tread water or hold onto his arms to stay eye level with him. But he was the teacher. “Now that I’m free of that trap, what’s next?” Her smile was quite genuine, she found the whole situation humorous and captivating.

With a knowing smile Jordar raised his eyebrows and said, “I’m a horrible teacher and you’re a terrible student. Who in their right mind would wear something like this and hide the beauty beneath?” He remarked holding up the cover that was actually rather lovely, but it was worth the jab to give the compliment. “Now if that was the whole idea do you think I’d really let on so easily?” He remarked as he folded the cover gently, even though it was sopping wet, and placed it on the holographic sand. “Well it’s a shame we aren’t on Dolium V, where the Zaldan lean to swim in the buff.” He quipped although having been born on a the Manzar Colony he only knew about his people’s homeworld from the stories of his parents. “Now, to actually teach I’m going to have to remind myself that unlike us ‘brutes’ as you seem so fond of calling me and my race, you’re evolved higher people lack a webbing and as such are simply going to be worse at swimming and aquatic movement. That being said let’s find your natural buoyancy.” He directed the XO gently out towards the deeper water, a hand now gentle around her waist as a support rather than a romantic gesture. “I want you to periodically stop and lift your legs, we’ll start with floating then move onto actual movement after you have the very basics.”

Jordar, Sec

Karina grinned and lifted a corner of the sopping mess that was the lace cover up, “Someone who recognizes the value of shared beauty and not simply giving it away.” Her mouth twitched slightly, “No Jodar I don’t think you would. You’d be awfully boring if you did.” She walked a few feet and did as he instructed, lifting her legs and semi floating before touching back down. “You know Jodar I don’t understand why you can’t take a compliment. Your people are taller, stronger, and more muscular than most.
Brute strength is an asset, and tempered by the training I know you have, you’re a force to be reckoned with.” She grinned, kicked off the submerged sand and allowed herself to float on her back, since at that point she was on tip-toes in order to stay ‘walking’ in the water. After a moment she let her legs drop and came up right, treading water, decently, but probably poorly compared to a Zaldan. “You will have to have immense patience Jodar. I have no webbed hands and can’t breath underwater. But I am a dedicated student.”
Karina, XO
