Side Sim - 2 Forward - OPEN

Posted May 18, 2022, 1:51 p.m. by Lieutenant Maria Beckett (Chief of Security) (Sam Haynes)

Lieutenant Beckett made her way forward, to the bow of the ship. In truth, she probably should have been working in the higher security areas of the ship, her domain. But that didn’t suit her other purposes aboard the self-titled ship of her class. The Memorial had a history and came from an important legacy. Designed for her strength, surviving and settling conflicts and violence. But she was only as strong as her crew. Training only went so far. The real test of a good crew were their connections and ties to each other. When it mattered, a crew that would fight for each other, strive for each other, like iron sharpening iron, made the difference between mere excellence and truly outstanding. The finest among Starfleet were never lone individuals but crew united in task and purpose, bonded to each other. Training could do a lot, but spending time and getting to know one another, connecting was another.

Back home on the Outpost… Funny that she thought of Outpost 42 as ‘home’ now, rather than the SS Atlas, her family’s cargo hauler, as home. Even though Outpost 42 hadn’t been home since Alex McCormick had left. Soon after most of the senior staff scattered to the four winds. Entire departments restructured almost overnight. She had fond memories of the promenade and ins and outs of the station. But the thing that made it home, the people, weren’t there anymore. She’d found that out the hard way when she’d left too, and came back, serving as Strategic Operations Officer. The job had been exciting… at first. But then proved to be predictable and even boring. So it was that she’d returned to more shadowy, cloak-and-dagger work.

But now, aboard the Memorial, she was back in the light. And though she’d been in Starfleet for over a decade, working security, then intelligence, and then both had made her a little paranoid, and shown her some of the worst in people, she’d also seen the best and brightest too.

So it was that she found herself making her way into the forward lounge. A trip to the replicator netted her a large cup of tea. The Memorial was more spartan in it’s design than say the Mythology-class. Or as a few folks had dubbed them, the luxury whale. The Memorial was shorter on creature comforts, bred and built for war, combat, and escort duty. This meant spaces like 2-Forward were at a premium. It was always a busy place. Maybe not packed to the gills, but there were plenty of folks around and seating was limited.

Maria turned about, managing to find just about the only empty table up the stairs at the observation deck, parked in a quiet little corner. From there,s he could see most of the room below as well as ahead of the ship as they cruised along. It was a nice view. Setting down h er mug, she also sat down a PaDD and idly began scrolling through it’s contents while observing the comings and goings of the various beings both in and out of uniform below.

TL;DR - Ship’s security/intelligence chief is visiting 2-Forward. Feel free to pester. Or pester somebody else on the crew. Just a fun social side-sim for people to hop into.

Lt Beckett, COS
