their badges would chirp suddenly and the voice of the captain called out clearly a little worried =^=”Memorial to Away team what is going on We just lost contact with half of your number!”=^=

Tralla

Being the highest ranking officer; BJ answered =^= Captain, this is Janzen. The commander and security team are being escorted to meet the King of whoever is here. Our team of Dr. Gray, Lt. Danora, and I are working on getting as much information from the computer system. If things change; I’ll let you know =^=

Janzen

Dani frowned and tapped her own badge. =^=Dani here… Who are you still reading? Or rather, who aren’t you reading?=^= She glanced at Janzen curiously and whispered, as if the Memorial would overhear. “So were we suddenly put under a shield. Or was the other team lead into a shielded area?” Either way, she didn’t like it.

She brought up a good question. “I’d have to get a detailed scan to find that out. It could be that the land underneath has sensor absorbing properties. It could be anything at this point.”

Janzen

Jack nodded then did the third lifeform scan with his tricorder “Leftenant Danora, are there any medical files you can see in the system?” He asked the Engineering Chief.

Dr. Grey - CMO

In the system were quite possibly hundreds of medical files. Mostly routine checkups and minor ailments. ‘The Affliction’ as it was called at first, later replaced by the phrase ‘Eridion Madness’ appears in several patient charts, and the staff physician’s log.

-GM

Fingers tapped a nearly silent staccato over the console. “I’m seeing several medical file entries. Hundreds, actually.” She pushed a couple around on the console a moment. “There’s an affliction later referenced as Eridion Madness that seems most prevalent in a lot of the files. I’ve had them crossed to your PaDD.” She nodded to him.

“Hmmm…” She frowned slightly and moved her hands across the board again, stepping left to a separate console to compare a reading before coming back to the one she was at. “I’m trying to see if there’s a security field that can be independently put up over various section of the camp. It’s possible it’s part of the security protocols. If so, perhaps we can find a way to override it or simply mention it to the robots and see if they’ll remove it.”

She was still waiting to see if the other team has been the ones to disappear, or themselves. She was betting it was the others. But to be fair, she been on away teams that had lost transporter lock, but still had comms. So she wasn’t assuming anything till the Memorial confirmed who they’d lost locks on.

Jack started to read the PaDD, going over the files Dani had shared with him, he was looking mostly for symptoms, how the sickness spread and any data on the disease itself.

Dr. Grey - CMO

This was the hard part of being in command. BJ hated waiting for more information. He had patience. But, he liked to have as much information as he could get in these situations. At least he had the people to get him that information and advice on what they should be doing to keep themselves and the rest of the team as safe as he could.

Janzen

=^=Just you and Mr. Janzen are on our sensors,=^= she replied =^=So that means our Chief of Security and our XO is being lead to meet some kind of king and where they are at is shielded against our sensors,=^= she asked very intrigued. =^=Allance, is there any chance you can figure out what is causing the interference and bring it down?=^=

((Cross posted from here ))

Jack would find that the disease’s progression seemed to take about two months. From a first stage of taking on new compulsive behaviors to a final stage of homicidal mania. It mostly affected the brain, releasing ever increasing amounts of cortisol and adrenaline, putting the limbic system and amygdala in overdrive in a perpetual state of fight or flight that never stabilized until the patient eventually died, usually of cardiac arrest.

Dani didn’t find any current security fields, though such a thing had once existed. Once deactivated when the base crew’s shuttle was departing, the elements slowly destroyed the necessary equipment.

-GM

Jack frowned at the notes, it was a nasty disease, they’d have to implement quarantine procedures when they reached the Memorial again. Finally, he checked if they had any notes on how the disease was spread.

Dr. Grey - CMO

This was the puzzle that ultimately led to the abandonment of the station. No virus or bacteria was ever isolated. No proximal psychological factors seemed to be the cause, though the isolated environment didn’t seem to help. Strictly speaking, what the disease was, and how it happened no one had been able to determine. Thus the environment was deemed unsafe.

-GM

=^=”Memorial to Away team Give me a report on what you have found so far what the heck is going on down there?” she asked

Dani heard the Captain but she had an idea. =^= Stand by, Captain. Trying to figure this out.=^=

Looking to the security bot, she tried to keep her voice steady. “What kind of protection is afforded those you guard? I want to be sure I take them into account with my calculations of security we’re adding? I want to be sure we don’t mess your security protocols up.” It was a long shot, but she hoped, since they saw them as helpers, they’d answer her.

Dani
CE/ AI Spec

That was the call BJ was supposed to be responding with the answer. =^=We’re reviewing the medical records and security records to see what might have actually happened. It looks like there was an evacuation. The rest of the away is still meeting with the King.=^=

Janzen

=^=Grey here, we’ll need to implement quarantine procedures when the Away team returns, there was some sort of disease, neurological in nature but no records on how it was spread. I’m forwarding the records I’ve discovered so far.=^= Jack added.

Dr. Grey - CMO

OOC: Just going to jump in like I have always been here.

Being the daughter of a medical professional, Jhalae had a theory about the disease and she shared it with the doctor. “The disease appears to have the characteristics of being genetic due to evolutionary factors that may have, at some point, affected certain areas of the brain.” she said to the doctor, “Of course, this is only a theory. We cannot be certain until you have had the opportunity to examine one who has been afflicted by it.”

The robot responded to Dani “We are many. Seen and unseen. In times of danger, the perimeter can be sealed or all can be destroyed.”

-GM

Dani nodded to the robot. “That’s good. We have ways to sense danger as well. Because we are not people you are used to on your cameras, may we please see our other companions so that we can all be sure they are safe? It would help you see if there was danger as well. A different danger that perhaps wouldn’t register till too late on your regular sensors.”

It made sense in her head, but could she make the robots understand? If she could get video feed on her console of the other team, she could feed it to the ship so they could monitor as well.

Dani

The robot once again mulled the proposition over. Then it stepped over to the computer console and extended its arm, from which a small rod emerged and connected to the console. A few seconds later, eight video feeds were available.

  1. The main area of the settlement. Just huts and snow.
  2. An elevator interior. Empty at the moment.
  3. What appeared to be a tent city. Filled with people.
  4. A throne room. Five unknown people and the other members of the away team in the middle of some very intense discussion.
  5. A shield generator. Well guarded.
  6. A warp core rigged as a general power source. Also guarded.
  7. A small prison. Two prisoners in it.
  8. A very old starfleet shuttlecraft.

Dani tapped her comm, =^=Captain, we’ve been given access to several video feeds. Looking to you now,=^= she glanced at the robots as she continued, =^=so you can help us protect everyone like we came here to do.=^= She hoped the Captain would understand that they were being monitored and had to be cautious.

Looking at the various feeds, she honed in on the one with the throne room and the rest of their team. The heated discussion worried her, but there wasn’t anything she could do from there. She glanced at the others and then at their robot companion, again. “How can we help you from here? We have more people who can help, too. If we’re need them, I mean.”

Dani
CE/AI Spec

Normally a group of robots would have interested Jack, but right now he was to concerned with the virus this planet may contain. He looked at the video feed with some interest That’s the way team, but who are those prisoners He thought as he scanned the screen, he made certain that he didn’t linger for too long on any particular screen just in case they were looking for something like that.

Dr. Grey - CMO

The only immediately discenable details of the prisoners was that they were both humans, one male one female. They didn’t appear to be in distress, though their physical condition did seem to be lacking somewhat.

The robot responded to Dani “More people… More… Cannot allow. But assistance offered in good faith, should be accepted.” It was as though Dani had offered it an incredibly difficult logic puzzle. “Who are these people? Where do you keep them?”

-GM

((Fixing split))

=^=”Understood Chief Doctor what can you tell me about this Virus is the Away team already infected or would be be safe to bring the away team back?”=^= the captain replied

Tralla

Dani smiled at the robots. Standing up straighter and stretching to give herself a moment to respond, she finally answered. “If you wish no more people, that is fine. They are far from here so they do not disturb you or the others.” She nodded to the screens.

“We came here in good faith to help. We will continue to always strive to do so if none of group are harmed. Just like you, we protect and look over those of our group.” She leaned casually on the console, half blocking the monitors and the Doctor so she could examine the feeds.

“How can we help you with your mission parameters? We wish to help make sure everyone is taken care of.” She smiled a bit brighter to show she meant no harm. Saying everyone allowed for room later in case they needed to see to the prisoners as well. She feared limiting her coverage in case it but the team later.

Jahlae moved closer to the CE, leaned over then whispered to her, “Although functional, they appear to be quite primitive, perhaps an offer of a minor upgrade to their systems would be the ultimate sign of good faith to them? This will prove we are here to help, our usefulness to them, and it may make it easier to negotiate with them.”

Ynuchausti, Engineer

“We cannot authorize or deny. We must send the request to a higher authority.” The robots responded. They seemed to make a whirring noise and then said “request sent.”

-GM

The sudden reply from the robots startled Jhalae, she wasn’t sure if they had heard her proposal to the chief engineer. She hadn’t meant for them to hear it but it was possible they could have. “Um…I am sorry, but what request did you send to the higher authority?” she asked them.

Ynuchausti, Engineer

That was a good question. “Good question. This is why I’m in charge. And why I haven’t said anything.” BJ responded. “The less complications the better. Learned my lesson along time ago.”

Janzen

Jhalae nodded at the Commander. “Noted, sir.” Not only did she want to know what request the robots sent to the higher authority, but another questions circulated in her mind. Who was this higher authority and why haven’t they presented them to her and the rest of the crew?

Ynuchausti, Engineer

“Request for more people to join. Given to the Hand.” The automatons responded.

Given to the hand?” Jhalae thought. Then she said, “When can we expect an answer from the higher authority?”

Their inflection suggested that they didn’t have any context outside the world of Eridion to clarify how the power structures there worked too much.

On the monitor, the lights flashed off then back on where the XO and CE were. The room then looked a lot more empty and a lot less hostile.

-GM

Her eyes widened as she pointed at the monitor, “Um…what happened? Where did they all go?” The sudden disapperance of the king and his advisors was unsettling and talking to cryptic robots didn’t make the situation better. She backed up cautiously and put some distance between herself and the robots as she regarded them with suspicion.
