“<Any siblings?>” She asked, “Or anyone in the family who can get away with nagging you like one?” His answers were steady, a certain confidence behind them. Lissan was growing convinced that Grey was perfectly capable of handling himself. Although obligated to the physical well being of others, Zenobia knew of the next Physicians had for themselves. Grey, however, didn’t raise concern.

Jack smiled at her question “No siblings but I grew up very close with my two cousins Timor and Benjamin, they’re both Starfleet Officers, Timor is a Security Officer on the Scandinavia and Ben is CMO on the Athena” He spelt the positions awkwardly, positions were more difficult than names for him “I have not met Tim for a few years but I met Benjamin Just before his reassignment to Athena, we try to stay in regular contact. The three of us try to meet up on Earth when we can, Timor, however, has been pushing us to meet on the Oed Colony, his father works there and apparently has a quite pleasant house.”

From what I’ve heard, Oed is the place to be for a unique time. I’ve only been once, but their housing districts have architecture you could gawk at for hours. Depending on his father’s position, you could be looking at a state-of-the-art Villa.” Zenobia recalled her travels to Oed, where she’d met with a relative of her own. That experience, on its own, had been among the wackiest she’d had. “Perhaps you should schedule with them. We’re bound to have a shoreleave sooner or later. Plus, I’m sure you could use some time with family.” She winked, playfully.

Jack answered with an acknowledging bow/nod. “Perhaps I shall, although Oed is on the other of Federation Space, I think a visit to Earth if we come close enough should be simpler” His smiled turned from simple politeness to actual amusement *” Although a visit there next time I take long leave might be in order. My godfather lives there, or at least most of the times I believe. Him I haven’t seen since my first duty ship on the Aztec when I first Graduated. He took position as bar-servant. Wanted to keep eye out for me. I be only child of his smaller sister. I hear he was as protective of his other Nephews and Nieces”

Dr. Grey - CMO

That’s fair.” Lissan submitted, waving off the suggestion with a light smile. “The Aztec? That was the previous commission of the Memorial, yes?” Zenobia knew some of Memorial’s history, but it was not as though she kept pillars of information stored in her brain about such things. “I can see where he was coming from. Did you enjoy his guidance or did you oppose it?” She asked, starting to grasp who Grey was as a man.

Jack nodded to her first question, saving his hands for more in-depth answers “I think I enjoyed it more or less, he spent most of his time manning the bars, giving out sage advice. He was good buffer when I clash with first officer and Security Chief.” He paused and gave an awkward grimace as if his conscious mind caught up with his words or well signage. For a moment He’d forgotten that he was talking with the ship’s counselor about an incident or incidents that as far as he knew had never been written up.

Dr. Grey - CMO

You, clashing with the COS and Executive? I would have never imagined!” It was hard to tell, in that monotonous tone, whether she was spewing words of sarcasm or true astonishment. Albeit, her eyes spoke volumes her translator lacked. “Did anything terrible ever come of those clashes? Or were they just a difference in opinion?” She paused, “Don’t worry, this is off-the-record information.” Lissan cared less for the file’s sake than her patient’s.

Jack raised his left hand in an apologetic manner “No not so much, more like inter-species misunderstandings and office romance” He grimaced slightly “Once the Captain called me and the Security Chief, a Cardassian woman, into his ready room for a well-deserved dressing down” He lowered his hands “I’m going to need to vocalize this particular story. I’ll return to a proper conversational style after I finish” He explained “Why we were there wasn’t really important but we had some friction. I thought she was an overly aggressive and violent hot-head and she considered me to be some snotty nosed arrogant brat. In any case, he gave us a firm talking to and left us for a moment to settle our differences. I proved her point by being an arrogant ass and she proved my point by being violent and hot-headed.” He took a moment to consider his words carefully.

It sounds like a giant fiasco” Despite her intentions, Lissan’s translator failed to portray anything short of monotonous stoicism, which managed to instill a certain harshness over her demeanour. Zenobia hoped Grey would look beyond the machinery and focus on the story of her expressions rather than her voicebox–or lack thereof. “Certainly that wasn’t all that happened.. what came next?” Curiously, Lissan tilted her head slightly to one side, pondering where this story might lead.

“Well, what I didn’t know at the time was that Cardassian women or at least some of them consider aggressiveness to be an attractive trait. She… well she thought I was flirting and when I learned I practically laughed in her face and she punched me. Captain came back to find me on the floor and immediately read the situation, I told him that there was no issue, that I had been standing up and tripped clumsily right into his desk. Captain Koh was a good man so he understood how to deal with it, so we got assigned together on a few missions. However, you don’t really turn down someone like that so when she started dating our First Officer I didn’t have a lot of people in my corner. To shorten a very long story I was in the middle of our regular duel of words in the mess when the Commander arrived. He didn’t take too kindly to some of my words in regards to her manner and such. We almost came to blows, a fight I surely would have lost. After this things calmed down I requested a transfer and was recruited to a think-tank on Mars.” He exhaled and raised his hands “That’s when I finally went into medical School” He signed.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Wow. The thought sped across her mind, and it was no among the more helpful ones. This was not the first time Lissan had been told of similar circumstances, however they normally included junior officers and members of the same species. Very rarely were the characters of these tales of Cardassian decent, nor did they have an interspecies love affair in the presence of struggling authority. It certainly was a mouthful–even for the mind. Taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Lissan gently bit her lip, shaking her head slowly. Leaning back, she rose her hands. “<If it had not been for this.. interesting encounter, would you have joined Med School?>”

Jack took a moment to consider her question before raising his hands and continuing the rough signing “I would not have gone so soon. My plan was to make full lieutenant before becoming a Doctor. Understand Starfleet before deciding if I wanted to continue my career”

Dr. Grey - CMO

That’s a hell of a lot smarter than most of us,” Lissan pointed out, scoffing. “Did you feel you understood it enough to become a doctor? Or were you still hazy on what Starfleet meant?” Her hands at rest, Zenobia relied on her translator for this portion of the conversation, which sadly excluded any emotion from her words.
