The journey to the Memorial while she was berthed at Starbase 243 was easy for Valoru. He had traveled in Federation space quite a bit as a young adult and cadet. He had lived on Starbase 243 as a civilian for a while as well, so it was almost a second home to him. Although, he would have to make a new home on the USS Memorial.

The Memorial-class vessel was a nice sized ship and had ample opportunities for Valoru to train and use the holodecks to hone his skills. He had heard of the Chief of Security and was looking forward to meeting him. Valoru went to Deck 11 on the ship after checking into his quarters and ensuring he knew where everything was. The doors to the Security spaces opened up and the Andorian noted several spaces, such as the armory and brig monitoring and training facilities. But he found his destination of the chief’s office.

Jasper looked up from reading a report of a couple of drunk ensigns–not even really from the Memorial but one of his officers had responded–when the chime rang. Putting the report to the side, he called out “come!”

Valoru approached and saluted Lieutenant Rhodes as soon as he was allowed in. “Ensign Valoru reporting for duty, sir.”

“At ease, Ensign.” Jasper said, standing up, and moving towards the replicator. “Would you like something to drink?”

Valoru relaxed a bit and spread his feet apart as per the standard. “No thank you,” he said in reply to his question. He took a quick glance around the office, noting the more ‘fresh’ smell from being docked.

Jasper replicated himself a cola–a 21st century caffinated beverage–medical would yell at him later for it, but the stuff was good, so he continued drinking it. The office itself was sparsely decorated, the only personal items being some sort of hanging decorative item near one wall consisting of a magnetic ball and multiple metal pieces revolving around it due to the magnetic field, and a single picture on Jasper’s desk of him and two boys, both who were spitting images of him.

“Please, have a seat.” Jasper said, gesturing to one of the chairs in front of his desk.

Valoru sits down as offered, taking note of the picture. He did not have siblings, but many cousins in his clan - it reminded him of his childhood a bit.

“Have you had a chance to familiarize yourself with the Memorial-class specifications yet?” He asked.

LtJg Jasper Rhodes

“Aye, sir,” the Andorian said with a nod. “I am still getting into some of the details, but I am aware of the layout, general systems, and notably the security systems and tools. It will be good to get my hands and eyes on some of what we have going on here on Deck 11 and elsewhere.” It was not very typical of Valoru to speak as verbosely as he just had, but he wanted to explain himself appropriately.

Ensign Valoru

“Right.” Jasper said, nodding, “I’d like you to take a bridge rotation, along with other duties, so I’ll ensure I have a rough schedule to you within a few hours. Do you have any questions of me?” He asked.
