Medical found her sound and now the boss needed to clear her. She pressed an errant strand of brassy hair behind her ear as she walked into the bay and glanced around. It was an amazing place. She had been playing around on it for about a month, now. Granted, it was in a sim on a holo deck, but she was happy enough to know the sim had been almost perfect in every way. There was an additional console on a station that only had one console in the sim. It made more sense to her to have the second one, facing the opposite direction, rather than the long useless counter space on the island.
She walked in, the lunch break just about to happen, and searched for her new supervisor.

Eng /AI SpecialistSivith was by the Warp field generator reading the numbers off the panel. He is a fine, blue specimen of his species. “These are all in order.” Smiling as he turned around and noticed a new face. “Hello. I am Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes the Chief Engineer. May I be of assistance?” His speech smooth flowing smooth like silk from his mouth.

Danora smiled. “Chief, afternoon. I’m Danora Allance, your new AI specialist. It’s a pleasure to meet you. The ship is impressive.” She glanced around at the bay once more.

Eng/AI SpecSivith smiled and his eyes widened. “Ah! Welcome Miss Allance! I didn’t expect you until tomorrow, but no matter! Please. Follow me to my office where we can talk.”
Along the way he stopped by a computer station with a desk and terminals on it. Gesturing with his left hand, “This will be your station Miss Allance. If you need any further equipment or supplies just let me know so you can do your job properly.”
Turning around they went another 50 feet until they got to his office on the right. It was almost in the middle of the place to help people get to him easily. Walking in he took a seat behind his desk and motioned for her to have a seat.
Once settled he began. “I am very thankful to have you here Miss Allance. We needed an AI specialist for some time now and to be honest I only know the very basics of such a thing. Just enough to basically reboot it or turn it on and off. I specialize in Warp Field theory. Please tell me about yourself some.” He sat eagerly waiting to hear.

She smiled. “Please, call me Alla or Dani, easier on the lips.” She laughed and followed him to the office. “Thanks. I’ll let you know. I don’t need much but a terminal, to be honest.”
As they settled into the office, she leaned back and crossed her legs, her arms resting on the arms of the chair. “Well, you have my bio. But I guess what’s not in there is my passion for this work. The AIs I mean. There are still several steps before us and it, I hesitate to call AI ‘them’ because some get attitudes and play differently when you see them as sentient. Even by accident.” She smiled. “As for hobbies, pretty much anything engineering related. I like running random sims to see if I can figure out what to do, or learn from what I don’t know. Warp Fields is something I haven’t delved into yet. Sounds amazing.”

Eng/AI Spec“It is amazing! Or at least you and think so anyway! I know all too well of calling an AI an it, thing, etc and not by its name. Were we understand pressure, stress and time where precious seconds is the matter of life and death is no time to be spent arguing over the ego of a machine. But I’ve learned and so have you.”
“So you don’t have any hobbies what’s so ever outside of Engineering? I myself like Bonsai trees. It helps calm me down and gets my mind away from work. And speaking of calling down, I read in your profile that you could stand to learn a thing or two about calming yourself. How will your temper effect your work or the work of others?”

She shook her head. “It doesn’t affect work. At least, not that I’ve been written up for. Yes, I’ve lost my temper in the heat of a moment. And I’ve been known to sling horrendous nicknames to those in the way. But I’ve never struck another crewman in anything other than self defense. One of my biggest triggers, and I’m sincerely working on it, are those who act arrogant and act like they know it all. But when push comes to shove, they don’t. No point in putting someone in charge of monitoring the containment field if they don’t know the basics on how to vent it in the early stages of overload… things like that.”

“I totally agree!” He said smiling. “Now that that’s out of the way what do you plan to accomplish while you are here?”
