[snip]As they headed for the treeline Jonathan heard the chirp from his pack, their prearranged signal. The Captain was going to have to wait a few minutes though, as he didn’t have time to dig the communicator out of his pack.
The group moved out without problems as the choppers came closer. They were able to get to the safety of the treeline without being spotted it seemed and make a little distance. Peering back they could see the rescue chopper landing and deploying what seemed medical personnel towards their alien pilot Ry’an.
As they regrouped though they would realize something, no one had commed Wulf Baumann who had still been split off from the group investigating the empty buildings of the base!
Once they hit the treeline, Jonathan gestured them back a bit under cover. Turning he saw the choppers come in and land close to where they had been. Finally having gotten to a safe spot, he dug his communicator out of his pack.
[O] Jonathan here, [O] he said after flipping it open. As he waited for the Captain to respond he did a quick head count, and stopped. Starting again he counted everyone there, they were missing someone… Moving through the team he laid his eyes on each team member before it finally hit him.
“Where is Baumann?”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
Naomi lowered her things from her back, giving it precious relief before the XO’s voice caught her attention. Her eyes widened as realization washed over her. In a slightly higher-pitched voice, she spoke.
“Didn’t you contact him before we left?” She didn’t mean to sound accusing, but the tone accidentally fell into it.
“He has to still be around the building… What do we do?”

Distantly the group could see the what seemed ESD soldiers fanning out around the abandoned base, medics tending to the downed pilot and loading him on the rescue chopper. After a sweep of all buildings, which oddly they showed no response of finding Baumann from the equipment building he had been in, they got back on the choppers and lifted off, soon taking off in a north easterly direction. There was also the fact that said abandoned base had yet to be explored more deeply underground to try to locate the mysterious energy reading that had brought them here.

OOC: That would be because I couldn’t find the other thread at the time, and the kiddo was crying. Found it now! I’ll make something up.

Jonathan looked down at the communicator in his hand, some of the lights on it were flickering slightly. Holding it steady in one hand, he gave it a good thwap, and the lights steadied out. He didn’t think he had hit it on anything, but he must have knocked it.He touched the control to open the comm line to the Captain. [O] Jonathan here Ari, go ahead.[O]
As he waited for the Captain to respond, he kept an eye on the soldiers, trying not to hold his breath while they searched the buildings. When they finally all exited and headed for the choppers, he didn’t think he had seen Baumann among them, or them dragging a body.
“Did anyone see the soldiers carrying off Baumann when they left?”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
Melissa shook her head “No sir. Would you like me to take a second MACO and go to the weapons building and find him?” She asked as she watched the choppers take off. “We also need to be aware that they may have left booby traps behind to ensure that the Macarms don’t get anything that might be left here.” She said looking at Jonathan “Can the ship scan the building and see if he’s there or not?”
MACO
“No, I didn’t. But it’s hard to see in the dark.” Naomi agreed with MACO officer.
“I don’t think that makes sense to leave traps in an abandoned place. Even if we know there’s an energy source underneath, I don’t think they do. For all they know, the pilot managed to drag himself here to be found.”
Her thumb rubbed her jawline as she debated something in the back of her mind. Something that continued to gnaw at her and refused to let go. She turned her attention to the XO.
“Do you think he is investigating the energy source? We never did discover what caused it and that’s why we came here.”

Melissa looked at the others “What about Baumann?” She said wondering what they were thinking. She looked at the XO “I’m going to go find Baumann.” She said “Emerson, let’s go.” She said “We’ll be back shortly.” She said as she prepared to head for the weapons building where Baumann had been when the choppers arrived.
MACO
Headed towards them was a Vulcan, jogging at a good pace. It had taken this long for her to reach the party from her previous location, choosing to meet up with the group after she saw the choppers from the distance. “What is going on?” She asked as she approached. Her English carried a slightly Vulcan accent.
