The humming of a power source could be heard in either direction, it though was barely noticeable given its high pitch, but if someone deemed to scan they would pick up the energy readings they sought came from the left, while to the right were what seemed a weaker power source and what might be life signs though exact properties of this second finding were muddled due to the energy put out by the unknown power source.

Nissek stepped into the lift after Naomi and waited until the doors opened once again.

Upon stepping out in the new location, she checked her scanner. “Our energy reading appear to be originating from that direction,” Nissek pointed to the left. “However there also seems to be something in the other direction…” she said, though she would rather go left.

It seemed the lift sensed her urgency as it dropped down, threatening to leave their stomachs behind. Naomi’s knuckles became white from the grip she held and effort to keep her lunch from spewing into her throat. Somehow, she swallowed down the sourness lingering there when things came to a stop. With a deep breath, she cautiously stepped out of the lift into the dimly lit corridor. She didn’t like the looks of it. It reminded her of a horror scene in a movie where the unexpected victims were about to be devoured.

Determined not to be the first attacked, Naomi listened to Nissek.

“Let’s go to the left and quietly. I rather not trip the alarm or gain unwanted attention. We get in, and get out. Now keep close everyone.” Her voice was hushed down to where only the three of them could hear.

Having finished reminding them of their priorities, she quietly began to drift to the left and toward their intended target.

Kenny braced himself as they descended, slowly following the others into the area. He handled the drop much better than Naomi, being used to a lot of G-forces from his pilot training.

Heading down the passage they found the corridor and equipment about them was a strange mix of the Earth like technology of the 1950s/60s, and the strange future tech of their own or so. It was like someone from their time with obvious influences of some other alien force had mixed the three together and this was the result. The air also got a touch warmer too, not enough to cause much sweating but noticeable by a few degrees. As they passed another glass enclosure they could peer in and see a massive cave formation had been hulled out in the ground, inside which an equally massive grid work of metal and panels lay around a glowing spherical object with massive cabling running every which way off it. The device thrummed with energy off the charts of known science, but yet around the cavern they could make out smaller power sources which seemed similar to their own warp core modulating the energy through lithium based matter/antimatter reactions.

All that blocked them from entry was a large 10ft high by 20ft wide lead door with the alien script and English combination saying ‘Warning High Radiation’ on it. A control panel nearby gave readings that thankfully while there was radiation exposure it wasnt too much higher then what had been on the surface.

As they progressed, Naomi wished she had worn something lighter and thinner. The air was notably warmer than before causing her to wonder why. She didn’t have to wonder very long when they came to a sealed door with a control panel. Her eyes took a moment to look it over, noticing the warning. She stepped closer to the panel to look over the readings.

“Well, the readings are close to the same level as the surface. Think this might be the source of the radiation on the planet or something else?” She looked over her shoulder at the pair.

“It could be,” Nissek replied, reading her scanner. “It’s hard to tell.” She admitted after a moment.

Cmdr. McKnight - XO (crosspost)

When the XO’s voice came over the comms, Naomi froze into place. Of course that man had to pick the worst possible time to check in and ask for an update. If he had remained down here, he might’ve not needed one. Unable to curse her rotten luck, she signaled for the others to pull in close and for someone to watch the door. She activated the comm then spoke in a hushed whisper.

=^= Currently, we’re still investigating. They are experimenting with FTL travel in order to make their planet capable of doing it. It explains the tremors and gravity waves keeping us here. Now, we’re in the ship bay and going to see if we can turn off the source. There’s also other lifeforms on the same level so we’re trying not to get caught.=^=

It was a very wimpy recap of their knowledge, but it hit the important marks. She did hope the XO might understand the dire danger they were in and consider keeping his voice down when he replied next. Her eyes looked to the side and prayed nothing came into their hallway. None of them, that she knew, had any weapons on their person.

Nissek pulled in closer, watching the door and keeping her eyes on the rest of the area. It really had been an inopportune time for a check-in. She wasn’t carrying a weapon either, and she didn’t particularly wish to get caught down here.
