Snip and bump“Of course, Sir,” Fawkes said, tipping his head to each officer in turn. His tone carried confidence with a possible hint of assuming. The Chief had said to do it which was enough for him to not have to wait for any kind of formal dismissal, and he turned on a heel in the direction of the cabinetry that held kits and tools.
“Take Kohl with you,” Green said. “She needs the experience.”
There was a momentary pause in Fawkes’ stride, and in that moment said, “Sir,” before continuing.
As the petty officer turned the corner, Green said to the Chief. “Kohl is a good thinker. Likes to take things apart.” The two were worlds apart too in standing, utter opposites, but she was pretty new to starships - a recent transfer onto the Bonaventure then over to here. Between them they would get it. It was a minor fix. In the old days it would be tightening the bolts.

“What was that pause I saw Fawkes do just then at mention of her name?” Logan asked. “If I was any good at body language, I would almost call it apprehension.” That was followed by a slight chuckle. “If Kohl likes to take things apart, then she’s like me. I learned by taking things apart, old things. Gave me an appreciation for how things go back together and what makes them tick. Having people that can both think and tinker though, that’s a bonus.”

Green tugged at his square set beard, eyes following Emerson turn a corner. “Fawkes is .. upper crust. Family name and all that. I looked him up. I’ve got a long line of ancestors who were seamen, some with some rather salty stories attached. Fawkes goes way back too. Resources. Tech. They invested well. He carries that. Darlene, that is, Crewman Kohl, is not. Has a little girl back on Earth and she supports her husband in school. But she’s good. She’s earned it. You want a power engineer, she’s the one. Another difference between them, Chief. Fawkes has initiative. Kohl is good at what is in front of her but, whether it is a lack there or just her needing time to get more confidence, sticks to what she’s been told to do.” He paused and then chuckled. “She has a habit of pranking Fawkes. They had gotten into a long discussion about tea and coffee. Kohl is rarely far from coffee and Fawkes is a tea totaler and detests coffee. When he’s not looking, she’ll slip a cup of coffee in place of his tea.”

“I like her better already,” Logan laughed lightly. “Tea is horrible stuff. Anyway, as long as they work well together and he doesn’t take her pranking seriously. The ships not that big if people get hot under the collar about something.”
Looking over the rest of the Engine Room, Logan glanced back at Green. “Lets get back to what we need to be doing. There’s a lot of work ahead of us and I need to be getting familiar with the department.” Giving Green a nod, he turned towards one of the nearby consoles to begin his own cursory checks.
OOC: Unless you have an idea to carry this thread on, we can probably focus more on the other ones with the dept and Elemirre?
